Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the performance of a vaporized fuel discharge suppression device, by efficiently adsorbing and releasing vaporized fuel with a canister to raise the vaporized fuel storage capacity of the canister.
CONSTITUTION: A three-way valve 4 connects communication pipes 3, 5 to each other and fuel vapor produced in a fuel tank 1 is stored into a crankcase 6 through the pipes 3, 5 while an engine 14 is stopped. When the quantity of the vaporized fuel has exceeded the capacity of the case 6, the surplus fuel enters into an air cleaner 2 through a pipe 15 and stays at the bottom of the air cleaner because the density of the vaporized fuel is higher than that of air. The vaporized fuel is then efficiently adsorbed by the canister 8. Fuel vapor produced in a carburetor 12 is conducted to the air cleaner 2 through an inner air vent 17 and processed in the same way. Since the air cleaner 2 has a bottom opening fitted with the canister 8, the discharge of the vaporized fuel to the atmosphere is effectively suppressed.
