Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent output drop due to repeated running, by using a nearly spherical material as the inorganic matter added to the high molecular moldings substrate in a thin metal film type magnetic recording medium composed of nonmagnetic layer and ferromagnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: In a thin metal film magnetic recording medium formed by disposing a magnetic layer 1 mainly made of iron group elements on a high molecular moldings substrate 3 by way of a nonmagnetic layer 2 of Cu, Sn, W or the like, a material mutually ground to nearly a spherical form is used as the inorganic additive such as Al2O3 and SiO2 to be mixed into the substrate 3. The form of said inorganic substance should not be necessarily accurately spherical, but the satisfactory effect may be obtained when the ratio of the longer axis to the shorter axis is less than 2:1, and the average grain size thereof should be preferably less than the recording wavelength.
