Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a granular substance which hardly undergoes slaking disintegration and has various uses such as civil engineering and construction by spouting a high-speed air jet upon molten converter slag in the vicinity of a slag outflow part so that the diameter of the resulting granular substance and the oxidation rate of the slag are regulated to below and above a specific value, respectively.
CONSTITUTION: Molten converter slag 3 is dropped from ladle 2 optionally through channel 2, and high-speed air jet 5 is sprayed upon the dropping slag from air nozzle 4. Thus, the molten slag is spheroidized by surface tension, solidified by cooling from the surface, and turned to a granular substance at dropping point 5. At this time, air jet 5 is so spouted that the diameter of the granular substance is regulated to below about 2 mm and the oxidation rate of the slag above 70%. In order to regulate the diameter, etc., the ratio of air flow rate and slag wt. is set to 400W6200 Nm3/T and the speed of flowing air to 80W300 m/s. Thus, esp. slakable CaO in Ca solid soln. in the slag is fixed as dicalcium ferrite (2CaO.Fe2O3) with Fe2O3 formed to be protected from slaking.
