Abstract

PURPOSE: To know the magnetic substance concentration, and realize quantitative measurement of reaction rate, monitoring of degree of progress, and prompt confirmation of end point of reaction, by measuring the change in the attraction force exerting between the magnet and the fluid containing magnetic substance or the magnetic force in the magnetic field of fluid.
CONSTITUTION: In the event of ferrite-making process treatment of waste water containing heavy metals, seeing that the reaction rate and magnetism increasing quantity are established in a certain relation, the reaction rate is known by measuring the magnetic quantity. A magnet 2 is put on one side of a balance scale 1, and a balancing weight 3 is put on the other side, and a sample liquid 4 is opposedly disposed above the magnet 2 at a certain spacing by means of a holding base 5. The attraction force exerting between the sample liquid 4 and magnet 2 varies with the quantity of magnetic substance contained in the liquid 4, and from this variation quantity, the amount of magnetic substance, namely, the reaction rate, may be known. Also, by putting the sample liquid in a magnetic field, the change in the magnetic force is detected by a sensor, such as magnetoresistive element, and may be picked up as electric signal. By utilizing the change in the magnetic force in the magnetic field of fluid, the reaction rate may be measured quantitatively, and the change with time may be monitored.
