Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent degradation in the characteristics of a photoreceptor and other inconveniences and improve the quality of recording images by providing a surface electrometer in proximity to the photoreceptor, detecting the potential differences between the exposed portions and unexposed portions of the photoreceptor and adjusting the light intensities of primary light based on these. CONSTITUTION:Modulating light having been modulated by picture signal is inputted from a controller 13 to an acousto-optic modulator 4, by which the laser beam Ld emitted from a laser light source 1 is made to the primary light Lbd1 having undergone light modulation. This light is then led onto a photoreceptor 10, whereby latent images are formed. The surface electrometer 12 which is provided in proximilty to the surface of the photoreceptor 10 measures the potential differences of the exposed portions 19 and unexposed portions 20 of the photoreceptor 10 and controls a controller 13 by the results thereof. The controller in turn increases the electric input to the acousto-optic light modulator 4 when the quantity of light attenuation is insufficient as compared to the specified value, thereby increasing the quantity of right arriving at the photoreceptor 10 and optimizing the light attenuation quantity.
