Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a membrane with inclined hole diameter distribution whose mean hole diameters become bigger continuously as the diameter positions become further from the membrane surface and make the membrane have specified diameter holes and specified air transmission coefficient by drying the surface and the inside of the membrane to a water content percentage of under 10% in the state of below 10°C.
CONSTITUTION: When a water including membrane of polyacrylonitrile, etc., made by some already known process is dried forcilly below 10°C, a gas filtering membrane which has inclined hole diameter distribution on one side alone can be obtain ed. If the solution is extruded from a slit shape T-die into a solidifying bath and solidified, a plane membrane with inclined hole diameter distribution on both sides can be obtained. The filtering membrane so obtained has inclined hole diameter distribution on one surface alone or on both surface whose mean hole diameters on the surfaces are 10 ÅW0.1μ, has an air transmission coefficient of 0.8/sec/membrane area cm2/atm, can filter bacteria, etc., and yet has a high gas transmission velocity.
