Abstract
PURPOSE:Inexpensive desulfurization by molten slag is effectively performed by simultaneously discharging molten iron and molten slag from the blast furnace. CONSTITUTION:Slightly before molten iron is discharged through the tap 1 from the blast furnace, the tap 2 is opened to discharge molten slag s. The slag s passed through the spout 4 to spout 3 to be mixed with the iron i from the tap 1 and advances to the skimmer 5 while desulfurizing the iron i. The slag s which is lighter than the iron i is stopped by the buffle 7 at the skimmer 5. The slag s is separated from the iron i and guided into the spout 6 and recovered by ladel or some other means. The iron desulfurized by the slag is passed under the baffle 7 and advances through the spout 3' to cast bed. The process thus desulfurizes from beggining to last by use of the slag s, providing the iron having a constant S content.
