Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an economic solidified material of easy handling and transportation without causing pollution, by mixing sludge with a calcium-oxide-containing substance such as cement to desulfurize the sludge and then incinerating the sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Pulverized coal, an inflammable coagulant, etc. are added to the sludge. The mixture is dehydrated by a vacuum dehydration process or by other process. The calcium-oxide-containing substance such as cement is added to the dehydrated sludge so that the quantity of the substance will be about 5 to 15% of the ash produced by the incineration of the sludge. The sludge is desulfurized by the calcium oxide of the substance. The desulfurized sludge is incinerated, thereby producing the ash. The ash is moistened and solidified so that it can be utilized to reclaim a land or can be used as aggregate after formed.
