Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title composition having improved low temperature flexibility without lowering the mechanical properties, by compounding 4-methylpentene polymer with a specific polybutene.
CONSTITUTION: To prepare the title composition by mixing (A) 100 parts by weight of a stereospecific homo- or co-polymer of 4-methylpentene-1 (with ethylene, etc.) containing at least 60 wt.% of 4-methylpentene-1 unit, and having a melt index of 1W100, and a density at 23°C of 0.82W0.85, and (B) 0.5W30 parts, especially 1W20 parts of polybutene having a molecular weight of 400W1000, pref. 500W700, and a bromine value of ≤2, at ≤290°C or in an inert atmosphere. Addition of (C) 5W200 parts of a flame retardant to the composition (e.g. antimony trioxide) further improves the mechanical properties, flexibility, and flame retardancy.
