Abstract

PURPOSE:To form images excellent in sharpness and high in resolution without deteriorating features in an elastic roller, by providing a specified developing fluid storing means near a static image carrier and the elastic roller. CONSTITUTION:Developing roller 43 provided with elastic cellular body 3 and a reticulate body 4 around shaft 2 is pressed to photosensitive drum 18 in the rotation direction from latent image forming means 37, in such a state that roller 43 has sufficiently absorbed developing fluid 40 in fluid tank 41, and nipped part x is formed. Fluid 40 squeezed out of roller 43 is filled in gas Z between drum 18 and receiving tray 42, and the edge part of latent image on drum 18 is immediately developed. Then, the latent image is further developed in nipped part x. When the pressed part of roller 43 leaves drum 18, roller 43 absorbs excess fluid 40 present nearby because of restoration force. Further, roller 43 forms nipped part y by compression with refreshing roller 44 to exchange fluid 40 and replenish it.
