Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture well-balanced screw shaft, by piercing with a shaft a single vane made through stabilized heat treatment of a twisted raw material sheet for the vane so as to assemble and to weld, then by conducting local heating and hard-facing of the vane.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material sheet for vane made of stainless steel sheet is nicked, twisted, and heated to be set permanently, thus a single vane is manufactured. The single vane is pierced with a hollow shaft 6, tack welded, then plural vanes are butt welded. Successively, joint area of the vane with shaft 6 is fillet welded in order to mount the vane 7 on the shaft 6. The hard facing alloy powder is applied to a prescribed range of the lead ares of the vane 7, and is melted together with the surface layer of the lead area by heating it with high frequency current fed through electrodes 9 which clip the vane at an interval. Movement of the electrodes 9 causes the molten pool to solidity and repetition of this operation allows to conduct continual build-up welding. This method makes it possible to manufacture screw shaft excellent in pitch precision and makes the corection of bending unnecessary.
