Abstract
PURPOSE:Chemical vapor deposition is effected by feeding the vapor through a specific method to control precisely the concentration of the vapor component for stabilizing the concentration of the gas supplied, thus producing optical fiber material with wide useful zone and low light loss. CONSTITUTION:High-purity oxygen as a carrier gas from storage 1 is controlled in flow rate by passing through system 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. When the amount of the controlled gas is large, the gas is passed through lines 29, 30, 31, and 32 into the vessels for starting material 25, 26, 27, and 28 and sent into glass tube 19 and the starting material is made into glass there by the reaction with heat. When the carrier gas is in a small amount, the gas is led through lines 33, 34, 35, and 36 into vessels 25, 26, 27, and 28 for starting material by the operation of cocks 21, 22, 23, and 24 and the vaporized starting material is sent to glass tube 19.
