Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A pyrazolylpyrimidine derivative of formula I: [R1 is H, alkyl, or phenyl group; R2 is H, alkyl, or aralkyl group; R3 is halogen, 1-imidazole group, XR4 (X is O, S, or-NH-; R4 is H, alkyl group, etc. when X is 0 or S; H, amino group, an etc. when X is -NH-); however, R3 is not Cl, SH, etc. when R1 is methyl or phenyl group and R2 is H.
USE: Agricultural and horticultural fungicides, particularly active against blast of and Helminthosporium leaf spot of rice plants without damaging useful plants, and nontoxic to men and cattle, and fishes.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is chlorinated to give a substance of formula III, which is dissolved in ethanol, saturated with NH3, and heated at 35°C in a sealed tube to afford the compound of formula IV.
