Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to easily set suitably temperature necessary for an enclosure and high frequency input power in balance by providing a projection for containing small amount of alkali metal at the end at the enclosure.
CONSTITUTION: A slender projection 14 of longer length than the radius of an enclosure sphere 1 is provided at the spherical enclosure 1 for containing small amount of alkali metal 3 at the end thereof. Since the metal 3 is thus located at the projection 14 at the lowest temperature in the enclosure 1, the alkali metal vapor pressure in a lamp is determined by the temperature at the end of the projection 14. Since magnetic line of force in high frequency magnetic field produced by an inductance coil 7 merely slightly crosses the end of the projection 14, it hardly heat directly the metal 3 to thus render the temperature of the metal 3 to be determined by the temperature at the end of the projection 14 of a lamp 15. Accordingly the metal vapor pressure can be easily set to suitable value by selecting the length of the projection 14.
