Abstract
PURPOSE:H2 containing gas is contacted with liquefied N2 in cleaning tower, compressed and adiabatically expanded to liquefy N2. Then N2-separated gas is passed through cryogen separator to easily provide high purity H2 with high heat- exchange efficiency. CONSTITUTION:Coke furnace gas passes through the blower 1, the heat exchanger 2, and is introduced into the bottom of the cleaning tower 3. Liquefied N2 is sprayed from the top of the tower 3 and contacted with the coke gas to cool it below a temperature of -109 deg.C. All high boiling components are liquefied or solidified, which are trapped at the bottom of the tower. From the top of the tower exits gas containing N2, H2 and other minor impurities. The gas is first utilized as cooling medium in the heat exchanger 2, then compressed 4 at about 20 deg.C. The compressed gas is cooled by the heat exchanger 5,6,18 to about -190 deg.C, then processed by adiabatic free expansion through the Joule-Thomson valve 7, and introduced into the liquefied N2 separator 8 at a temperature of -196 to -210 deg.C. The bottom N2 is separated, and from the top gas containing 90 to 95% H2 is taken out. The gas is utilized as cooling medium of the heat exchanger 18, then introduced into the cryogen separator 9 to provide high purity H2 gas.
