Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce head chips with good yield by applying groove working for separating a head block having a plurality of head chip constituting parts in its depth direction to head chips in said block then applying polishing of the tape contact faces.
CONSTITUTION: Plural grooves 24 leaving only a thickness E to the lower and end part 23 are formed to a head block 16 which is formed by working with plural head chip constituting part 20 (4 positions in the embodiment) to be head chips and adhesive agents such as epoxy resins are buried in said grooves. Next, the block is polished down to the r-r' face to provide a desired gap depth D as well as to remove the chippings having been produced at the working of the grooves 24. Following to this, the block is sliced along S-S' and the adhesive agents are dissolved away with a solvent, whereby the respective head chips are obtained.
