Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide wide view angles, high contract and high speed responsce by perpendicularly orienting the liquid crystal composition for guest-host displyaing added with dichromatic dies in nematic liquid crystal having frequency dispersion in dielectric anisotropy thereby making 2 frequency driving.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal layer exists between a common electrode 1 and segment electrodes 2 thru 4. When an ON signal is applied to input terminal 5, a tansmission gate 8 opens and the high frequency of a high frequency power source 10 is applied to the electrode 2 via the gate 8. Because of this, the dielectric anisotropy of the liquid crystal becomes negative and the liquid crystal molecules, hence dye molecules also orient horizontally and the segmants of the electrode 2 assume a colored from. During that time, the transmission gate 9 is OFF as it is applied with the ON signal of the terminal 5 via inverter 12. The OFF signal of the terminal 5 is inverted by the inverter 12 and this conducts a gate 9, then the low frequency of a low frequency power source 11 is applied to the electrode 2 and the segments of the electrode 2 become transparent.
