PURPOSE: To obtain a transparent single crystal of high heat stability by mixing oxides of Li, Ca and Si or their salts so that the compsn. Li2 CaSiO4 is formed after which the mixt. is calcined optionally in the presence of a specified element or melted in a LiCl flux and slowly cooled.
