Recently, when a golf club is hit with a ball, in order to stabilize the direction of the ball and obtain a longer flight distance, for example, in the case of an iron head, a face plate which is a part of the face portion of the head is provided. The head body, which is formed of a material having a relatively low specific gravity such as aluminum, titanium, or a titanium alloy, and is a portion other than the face plate, has a specific gravity higher than that of the face plate such as stainless steel, soft iron, copper, copper alloy, tungsten, and brass. And a unit formed by integrating a material having a larger specific gravity than a material constituting the head on a back portion corresponding to the back surface of the face portion of the head. In some wood heads, a sole member constituting the bottom surface of the head is formed of a material having a higher specific gravity than other members, and both are joined and fixed.

[0004] It is known that by adopting the above configuration, the head can increase the moment of inertia around the center of gravity of the head, and can also adjust the depth of the center of gravity and the like. Therefore, the material forming the head body and the face plate, the material forming the sole plate and the head body, or the weight member to be attached to the head are made of different metal materials. In order to form a head by joining and fixing the members made of the dissimilar metal materials to each other, the members are fixed with a coupling member such as a screw, and the uneven portions for fitting are formed on each member. Known are those which are fitted and fitted into a part by press-fitting, caulking, etc., and integrated, or integrated by bonding using an adhesive, or so-called fusion welding such as arc welding.

The following problems have been encountered in the case where the members made of the dissimilar metal materials are joined and fixed to be integrated. That is, when the above members are joined using a joining member which is a separate member, for example, in order to attach the face plate to the head main body, the face plate is inserted into the face plate insertion recess of the head main body, and a coupling member such as a screw is attached. When both are fixed by using the method, not only the number of components and the number of steps are increased, but also the appearance of the screw on the face surface of the completed head is disadvantageously impaired. Also, in order to join the weight member to the back portion of the head or to join the head body and the face plate, an uneven portion for fitting the two to the joint portion of the member is formed, and the two are press-fitted. In the case of fitting or forming a caulked portion on the peripheral edge of the member and fitting and fixing the two by caulking, the two are not necessarily in close contact with each other, such as impact during use As a result, there is a risk that a gap may be formed between them and the face plate may be peeled off.

In the case where members made of these dissimilar metal materials are joined by fusion welding, the members to be joined are melted and joined, so that the members to be joined are made of different materials. In such a case, the melt welding is difficult, and it is difficult to obtain a sufficient welding strength, and the weld bead appearing on the surface after the melt welding remains even after finishing polishing, so that the appearance is not preferable. In view of the above, the present invention has improved a joining structure of a head formed by joining and integrating a plurality of members made of dissimilar metal materials in particular, and a golf club head which can firmly join the respective members and which does not impair the aesthetic appearance. It is an object of the present invention to provide a manufacturing method thereof.

[0021] The iron head according to the present invention is a material having a melting point lower than the transformation temperature of each member to be joined, good wettability, and excellent mechanical strength at the time of joining. Since the filler material is selected and arranged in the gap between the joints of the members and integrated, the characteristics of the material constituting the members to be joined change due to heat at the time of joining. Since there is no fear and the gap between the two can be as small as 0.5 to 0.01 mm, the joint surface of the jointed and integrated iron head can be finished beautifully as compared with the melt-welded iron head.

In addition to the above, like the weight member 7 made of tungsten alloy and the head body 2 made of stainless steel,
In the case of using materials having greatly different coefficients of thermal expansion and joining via a filler material, a filler material having a three-layer structure in which a copper layer is sandwiched between silver-based brazing layers is used. If the filler material is melted and joined, a metal softer than the two members having different coefficients of thermal expansion is interposed between the two members, so that the impact upon hitting the ball can be reduced. Thus, the shrinkage strain due to heat between the members to be joined can be reduced.

In joining and fixing the face plate 4 and the weight member 7 to a predetermined position with a filler material, first, in order to join the face plate 4 to the head main body 2, the periphery of the recess 8 a of the head main body 2 is required. The walls and bottom are degreased with an organic solvent such as acetone. Next, the peripheral wall surface and the bottom surface of the concave portion 8a are polished with paper or the like to remove oxides on the surface. Then, the concave portion 8a is fixed by a jig so as to be horizontal, and 0.2 mm thick pure silver brazing foil and the face plate 4 are placed in this order on the concave portion 8a, and the face plate 4 is placed thereon. A weight is placed so that it fits properly in the recess 8a. In this embodiment, after polishing both the head body 2 and the recess 8a, the surface of the recess 8a is plated
After applying a thickness of 3 μm, the two are joined and fixed.

The members combined as described above are heated at 980 ° C. for 1 hour in an argon atmosphere to melt the filler material and join them. Thereafter, the surface portion 3 is gradually cooled, the surface is lightly polished, and excess filler material is removed.
Is completed. Further, the back portion 6 of the iron head 1
In order to join the weight member 7 to the iron head 1, it is not shown, but similarly to the joining of the face portion 3, the jig is fixed so that the concave portion 8 b of the back portion 6 of the iron head 1 is horizontal, and JIS-BAg8 with a thickness of 0.2 mm
The brazing foil and the weight member 7 are placed in this order, and heated at 880 ° C. for 1 hour in the same argon atmosphere to melt the filler material and join them. As described above, if the method of joining and fixing is performed using a filler material having a different melting temperature for each member to be joined, a difference in the melting temperature of the filler material between the face plate 4 and the weight member 7 is used. Because it can be bonded and fixed,
Even if the face plate 4 joined earlier faces downward when joining the weight members 7, there is no need to worry about the outflow of the filler material, and the workability is good. In addition, since the joining portion can be separated by reheating, the joining member can be easily replaced. After slow cooling, the surface is polished to form a stainless steel iron head 1 in which a face plate 4 made of pure titanium is joined to the face portion 3 and a weight member 7 made of tungsten alloy is joined to the back portion 6.

As described above, according to the present invention, in the iron head formed by joining a plurality of members, the iron head having a melting point lower than the transformation temperature of the member to be joined with each member is interposed. Since the members to be joined are hardly melted, the dimensional accuracy of the joined and integrated iron head is improved, and an iron head with less distortion is obtained. Since the filler material is selected and disposed with good wettability with the member, even if the joining gap of the member is narrow, it can be sufficiently firmly joined. Therefore, an uneven portion for joining is formed on each member. Special processing such as bonding is not required, and the number of post-integration steps is reduced. In addition, since the filler material is melted and interposed between the joining gaps of the members to be joined to fix the members together, the members themselves are not melted and joined and fixed, so even if each member is formed of a different material. And sufficient bonding strength can be obtained.

According to the manufacturing method of the present invention, since the filler material for joining has a melting point lower than the transformation temperature of the member to be joined, the iron head joined and integrated is compared with the iron head welded and welded. Can be beautifully finished and the post-process can be simplified. Also, it is not necessary to join all the members at the same time, and it is possible to join and integrate the members for forming the iron head to form an iron head, and to perform a step joining such as fixing a weight member to the back side as necessary. Therefore, it is possible to provide an iron head capable of adjusting a design error such as changing a weight distribution as needed.
