発明の分野

強化熱可塑性ハニカムに適用される、ハニカムサンドイッチ構造の準備に関する

関連技術の説明
ハニカムパネルは、例外的に軽量の剛性平面又は適度な曲線構造が必要とされる
、輸送及び航空宇宙産業において使用される。過去において、多(のハニカムは
、繊維強化材を熱硬化性樹脂で含浸させ、手でハニカムをレイアップすることに
より準備された。−立方フィードのハニカムは、しばしば、準備と硬化のために
24時間以上を費やした。最近、繊維強化及び非強化の熱可塑性ハニカムがまた
、使用されているが、今まで、その生産量は、時間及び労働集約的であった。同
時係属出願第071531.184号において、熱可塑性ハニカムの生産のため

先行技術のプロセスによって実施された如く、ハニカムを面シートに結合するプ
ロセスは、時間を消費し、比較的高価なフィルム接着剤を使用し、その接着力、
粘性と硬化サイクルは、しばしば、各特定応用に対して調整されなければならな
い。
発明の目的
熱可塑性ハニカムコアは、面シートに以前接着された、又は好ましくは、分離要
素として供給された熱可塑性フィルムの使用により、面シートに結合されること
が、不測にも発見された。このプロセスにより、比較的安価かつ容易に利用可能
な熱可塑性フィルムが使用され、面ンートの結合のためのサイクル時間は、数時
間からほんの数秒に縮小される。

好ましい実施態様の説明
本発明のプロセスにおいて使用される熱可塑性ハニカムは、30重量パーセント
を重えない、少量の熱硬化性樹脂を含む樹脂系から準備されたものを含む、事実
上、任意の形式である。使用される熱可塑性物質としては、限定的ではないが、
ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリオキシメチレン、ポリアリレンエーテル、
ポリエーテルケトン、ポリスルホン、ポリエーテルスルホン、ポリアミド、ポリ
アラミド、ポリベンゾイミダゾール、ポリイミド、熱可塑性ポリウレタン、等が
ある。熱硬化性樹脂の小部分としては、例えば、ビスマレイミド樹脂、エポキシ
樹脂、ンアナート樹脂、イソシアナート樹脂、熱硬化性ポリイミド、等が挙げら
れる。
熱可塑性ハニカムは、繊維強化材で強化される。強化材は、スパンボンデツド繊
維、保全性を設けるために随意的に縫われた及び/又は大きさを決められたラン
ダム連続又はチョップ繊維、織物、一方向テープ又はこれらの組み合わせの形式
である。使用繊維としては、ガラス、石英、炭素(炭素/黒鉛)、窒化ホウ素、
炭化ケイ素、セラミックス、等の無機繊維、又は前述の熱可塑性物質から準備さ
れたものの如く有機合成繊維がある。
面シートは、金属、繊維強化熱硬化性樹脂又は熱可塑性物質、又は非強化熱可塑
性物質である。面シートとハニカムコアは、熱可塑性結合フィルムに粘着するこ
とができる。好ましくは、ハニカム、面シートと結合フィルムにおいて使用され
る熱可塑性物質は同一である。
熱可塑性フィルムは、接合される材料と融和性でなければならない。
好ましくは、前述の如く、熱可塑性フィルムは、ハニカム材料と同一熱可塑性物
質である。融和性は、ハニカムからスキンを除去するために必要な力を決定する
ことにより評定される。フィルムの厚さは、広く変化するが、好まじ綱は、約0
.05mm〜1.Qmm、さらに好ましくは、接されるか、又は面シートと非融
和性であるならば、接着される。さらに、スキンに融接又は接着される分離フィ
ルムの代わりに、ハニカムに融着することができる十分な熱可塑性物質を含むス
キンを使用することは、発明の精神内にある。そのようなスキンはまた、一体フ
イルム/スキンユニットとして考えられる。本発明の目的は、スキンをコアに結
合する時完全に熱硬化性樹脂の使用を回避するが、約10重量パーセントよりも
少ない、限定量の熱硬化性樹脂を含む、熱可塑性結合フィルムを使用することは
、なお発明の精神内にある。そのようなフィルムは、完全熱可塑性材料と同様に
作用すると期待される。
発明のプロセスにおいて、結合フィルムは、面シート又はしばしば呼ばれる如く
スキンに以前付着されたかに拘わらず、例えば、赤外線放射又は熱ガス噴射の加
熱手段により融点まで加熱され、ハニカム上に置かれ、そして押圧され、これに
より、いろいろな構成要素を結合する。熱可塑性物質の融解の潜熱は、ハニカム
における熱可塑性物質を溶解させ、結合フィルムと面シートに融着させるために
十分である。しばしば、融解の潜熱は、十分に高く、冷空気ブラスト又は水又は
他の液体による組立体の冷却が必要とされる。熱可塑性フィルムは溶融温度まで
加熱する代わりに、結合点においてフィルムを溶融押出ししても良い。
第1図において、ハニカム(1)は、スキン(2)に以前融着又は接着された結
合熱可塑性フィルム(3)を用いてスキン(2)を上張りされる。源(4)から
の赤外線は、融解温度までフィルム(3)を加熱するために使用される。結合は
、圧力ローラー(5)によって実施され、水噴射(6)によっj意的に冷却され
る。加圧ローラーの代わりに、組立体は、標準プラーブレスを使用して加圧して
も良い。プラテンの表面は、一般に、冷却され、熱サグを除去し、コアの過熱と
スキンのブルーミングを防止する。
第2図は、スキンをハニカムに結合する好ましい方法を示す。番号付けは、この
場合、フィルムがスキンに前結合されない分離熱可塑性フィルムであることを除
いて、第1図における如くである。
第3図は、プロセスの一実施態様の側面図である。ハニカムコア(1)は、圧力
プラテン(9,10)の間の領域に案内レール(2)によって案内される。上方
スキン(3)と下方スキン(4)は、それぞれ、上方フィルム層(5)と下方フ
ィルム層(6)を用いて、ハニカム(1)に結合される。フィルム層は、赤外線
加熱バンク(7,8)によって加熱され、プラテンが閉じられ、そして圧力が、
冷えるまで維持される。冷却は、プラテン(不図示)上又は内への水噴霧又は空
気衝突によって促進される。
第4図は、頂部からの第3図のプロセスの図である。ハニカムコア(1)は、上
方及び下方プラテン(9,10(頂部プラテンのみが示される))の間のプロセ
ス案内レール(2)に沿って移動する。上方及び下方接着フィルム(5,6)は
、上方及び下方赤外線加熱バンク(7,8(上方バンクのみが示される))によ
って加熱され、ハニカム(1)と上方及び下方スキン(3,4)の間のプラテン
プレス領域に案内レール(2)に沿って折返し動作され、上方及び下方スキン(

実施例1
30cm対30cmの大きさで、Tyvekスパンホンデッドポリオレフィン製
の19mm厚コアが、Azdel、Inc、によって供給されるガラス繊維ポリ
プロピレン含浸マットの2つの1.8mmスキンに結合された。結合フィルムは
、0.50mmポリプロピレンフィルムであり、セラミック赤外線放射加熱要素
によって融点まで加熱された。ハニカムサンドインチを組み立てる全時間は、1
5秒間であり、その内の5秒が、ポリプロピレンフィルムを加熱するために使用
され、5秒が、組立体を圧力結合するために使用され、圧力は、プラテンと圧力
ローラーによって印加された。最小圧力が結合のために必要とされ、そして圧力
は、冷えるまで維持され、5秒間、サンドイッチに水噴霧することにより冷却さ
れた。

Claims (4)
- 1.熱硬化性接着剤の使用なしに、一つ以上のスキンを熱可塑性ハニカムに粘着 させることによる、ハニカムサンドイッチ材料の準備のためのプロセスにおいて 、 (a)結合されるスキンに隣接するが離間させて熱可塑性ハニカムを位置付ける ことと、 (b)ハニカムと接合されるスキンの間に熱可塑性フィルムを位置付けることと 、(c)該熱可塑性フィルムを融解温度まで加熱することと、(d)該ハニカム と該スキンを融着させるために十分な量において圧力を印加することとを含むプ ロセス。
- 2.段階(b)の該熱可塑性フィルムが、スキンと一体である請求の範囲1に記 載のプロセス。
- 3.(e)空気又は液体流によって獲得される、ハニカム/スキン製品を冷却さ せることをさらに含む請求の範囲1又は2に記載のプロセス。
- 4.熱可塑性フィルム(c)の加熱が、放射熱を用いて達成される請求の範囲1 、2又は3に記載のプロセス。
