[Prior Art] Conventionally, a flat cable connector to which a connector member inserted into a mating connector housing to be connected is attached has a conductor exposed portion that is exposed by peeling off the insulation coating at the end of the flat cable. There are known devices that use the same as a connection terminal.

However, in the conventional flat cable connector mentioned above, the extremely thin conductor itself comes into contact with the connecting terminal of the mating connector, and this cannot withstand repeated insertion and removal, causing wear and deformation. This causes the contact state to become unstable, and there is a problem that the current capacity of the contact portion cannot be ensured.

As an example of solving this problem, as shown in FIG. 3, in a flat cable 3 in which a plurality of flat conductors 1 are surrounded by an insulation coating 2,
A conceivable structure is to connect a metal terminal 4 to each flat conductor 1 that is peeled off and lined up in parallel, and to sandwich the periphery of this connection between insulating members 5 and 6 that serve as a housing.

Furthermore, in order to improve the versatility and production efficiency of such flat cable connectors, there is an increasing demand for establishing predetermined standards for specifications such as terminal spacing and terminal width. On the other hand, flat cables that connect complex circuits have different current capacities for each conductor depending on the circuit configuration, so cables with different widths for conductors 1a to 1e are used, as shown in Figure 4. There are many cases. In this way, when the width and spacing of each of the flat conductors 1a to 1e of the flat cable 3 are larger than the width w and spacing d of the standardized metal terminal 4, the flat conductors 1a to 1e are separated as shown in FIG. As a structure in which the ends of 1 are narrowed down to a width and spacing that conforms to the standard,
It is usually conceivable to connect metal terminals 4. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] However, with the structure shown in FIG. 5, the current capacity is limited by the constricted portion of the conductor 1 and the bonded portion of the metal terminal 4, so that the desired current does not flow. There are problems in that the circuit may not operate or heat generation may occur at the constriction part or the adhesive part. In addition, the narrowing part is molded and provided when manufacturing the flat cable 3, but this not only makes the process more complicated than if it is not provided, but also allows the narrowing part to be attached to the tip of the cable 3 cut to the desired length. The disadvantage is that a standardized connector cannot be installed.

An object of the present invention is to ensure that even when the width of each flat conductor of a flat cable differs depending on the configuration of the circuit to be connected, the appropriate current capacity of each conductor can be maintained while arranging terminals that conform to predetermined standards. The object of the present invention is to provide a flat cable connector that can secure the cable.

FIG. 1 is a plan view of the terminal portion of the flat cable connector according to the present invention to which metal terminals are connected.
A flat cable 13 is formed by arranging a plurality of flat conductors 11a to 11e in parallel and covering them with an insulating sheath 12, and forming them into a strip. The insulating sheath 12 is peeled off at the end of the flat cable 13, and each of the flat conductors 11a to 11e is exposed. ing. The thickness of each of the flat conductors 11a to 11e is constant, but each has a different width and is arranged in parallel, and one or more long metal plates are placed in the exposed parts of each of these flat conductors 11a to 11e. The terminals 14 are bonded using a method such as ultrasonic welding. Here, for example, as the metal terminals 14, connection terminals arranged in advance at predetermined intervals as shown in FIG. 2 are used. The number of metal terminals 14 connected varies depending on the width of the conductors 11a to 11e. For example, two metal terminals 14 are connected to a wide conductor 11, and one metal terminal 14 is connected to a narrow conductor 11. A metal terminal 14 is connected thereto.

Further, a housing shown in FIG. 3, for example, is fitted into the connecting portion of the flat cable 13, and an appropriate number of through holes 15 provided in the insulation coating 12 are provided with through rods 7 provided in the insulation member 6. The metal terminal 14 is inserted into the locking grooves 8a and 8b of the insulating member 6.

[Effects of the Invention] As explained above, the flat cable connector according to the present invention can secure an appropriate current capacity for each conductor, so there is no risk of malfunction of the circuit due to heat generation or insufficient current. Since the terminal arrangement can be made in accordance with the standard specifications, the versatility of products and component parts will increase, and production efficiency can be expected to improve.
