(57)【要約】 【目的】 フロン系溶媒を用いないワイヤ送給用、伸線
用潤滑剤を提供する。 【構成】 この潤滑剤は、粒子径0.1〜0.4μmのポ
リ4弗化エチレンを有する水性ポリ4弗化エチレンディ
スパージョン中に、粒子径0.5〜40μmのポリ4弗化
エチレンを分散させたことを特徴としている。分散させ
るポリ4弗化エチレンの粒子径は0.5〜20μmが更に
好ましい。ポリ4弗化エチレンの固着性を向上させる場
合には樹脂系エマルジョンタイプのバインダーを添加す
ると良い。塗布方法は浸漬塗布方法のほか、特にワイヤ
表面への均一塗布が要求される場合には静電スプレー塗
布法を採用するのが良い。塗布液に適当な界面活性剤を
添加することも有効である。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、潤滑剤に関し、より詳
しくは、フロン系溶媒を用いないワイヤ送給潤滑剤、伸
線潤滑剤に関するものである。
【0002】
【従来の技術及び発明が解決しようとする課題】溶接用
ワイヤ(ソリッドワイヤ、コアードワイヤ)は、ダイスや
ローラ類を用いて伸線し、製品化されているので、ワイ
ヤ表面にはワイヤ長手方向、円周方向共に微細な凹凸が
存在している。
【0003】そして、溶接時、ワイヤは、コンジットチ
ューブの中を通り溶接トーチまで送給されるので、ワイ
ヤ表面に微細な凹凸があると、ワイヤの送給性が悪化し
たり、ひいては、ワイヤ−チップ間の通電性にも悪影響
を及ぼすこともある。
【0004】このワイヤ表面の微細な凹凸の悪影響を緩
和するために、従来は、ポリ4弗化エチレン(以下、
「PTFE」と略称する)粉をワイヤ表面に付着させる
方法が採用されていた(特公昭57−17638号公
報)。すなわち、PTFE粉をワイヤ表面に付着させる
方法としては、PTFE粉が分散した溶媒中にワイヤを
浸漬させ、その後、溶媒を乾燥蒸発させる方法が用いら
れていた。この場合、PTFE粉の分散媒としては、フ
ッ素系の溶媒であるフロン113が用いられており、フ
ロン113は、水素源がないこと、速乾性などより判断
しても、ベストな溶媒である。
【0005】しかしながら、近年、このフロン113
は、オゾン層破壊の元凶として、UNEP(国連環境計
画)が中心となって規制の検討が行われてきたが、「モン
トリオール議定書」では西暦2000年以降使用できな
くなり、したがって、フロン分散型PTFEの代替品開
発が急務の課題となっている。
【0006】このフロン分散型PTFEは、主としてワ
イヤ送給潤滑剤に用いられているが、伸線潤滑剤におい
ても、ワイヤ表面の微細な凹凸に合ったPTFE粉の添
加が必要であることから、用いられるが、その場合に
も、同様の問題がある。
【0007】本発明は、かゝる要請に応えるべくなされ
たものであって、フロン系溶媒を用いないワイヤ送給潤
滑剤、伸線潤滑剤を提供することを目的とするものであ
る。

【課題を解決するための手段】本発明者は、前記課題を
解決するために様々な検討を試みた結果、ここに本発明
をなしたものである。
【0009】すなわち、本発明は、粒子径0.1〜0.4
μmのポリ4弗化エチレンを有する水性ポリ4弗化エチ
レンディスパージョン中に、粒子径0.5〜40μmのポ
リ4弗化エチレンを分散させてなることを特徴とするワ
イヤ送給及び伸線用潤滑剤を要旨とするものである。
【0010】以下に、本発明に至った基礎実験の結果、
並びに本発明について更に詳細に説明する。
【0011】(1)非フロン系有機溶媒分散型PTFE
の検討:PTFEは、疏水性を代表する代表的な物質で
あるので、その分散媒として、当初、n−ヘキサン、イ
ソプロピルアルコール、鉱油等の有機系溶媒を用いた。
具体的には、市販のPTFE粉をバインダー成分と共に
有機溶媒中に投入し、ボールミル又はホモジナイザーを
用い混合した。この性能調査の結果、PTFEは有機溶
媒中へ比較的容易に分散することが判明した。このよう
にして調製された有機溶媒分散型PTFEディスパージ
ョンを用いたワイヤは、従来のフロン分散PTFEを用
いたワイヤと同レベルのワイヤ送給性、伸線性を示し
た。しかし、引火性の有機溶媒を用いるこの潤滑剤は、
設備を防爆構造にする必要や作業環境への影響等、安全
衛生上の解決すべき問題点が多く、現時点で直ちに実用
化するまでには至らなかった。
【0012】しかしながら、この調査を通じて重要な事
実が判明した。それは、用いるべきPTFEの性状に関
する事柄である。
【0013】すなわち、従来用いられていたPTFE
は、テロマーと呼ばれる低分子量品(平均分子量350
0程度で、普通のポリマーの分子量は数万〜数十万以
上)であり、通常フロン系溶媒の中に分散された状態で
市販されているが、その粉状品は、乾燥すると粒子が凝
集し、再度分散するのが困難であるため、入手するのが
困難であった。
【0014】そこで、低分子量のPTFEテロマーの粉
状品の代替品として、一般の高分子量PTFEを機械的
に粉砕した微粉砕PTFEの適用性を検討した。つま
り、低分子量であるPTFEテロマーは、一般の高分子
量PTFE(以下、単にPTFEと称する)に比較し、粒
子径が小さいので、PTFEテロマーの代替品として、
微粉砕PTFEの適用性を検討した。PTFEテロマー
の粒子径は、0.4μm以下と言われているので、粒子径
が0.4μm未満のPTFEと、0.4μm以上のPTFE
について、それぞれ粉砕したものを作り、適用性を検討
した。
【0015】ワイヤの送給性について調査したところ、
ワイヤの送給性は、0.4μm以上のPTFEを用いた方
が良好であり、予想に反した結果が得られた。そこで、
0.4μm以上の粒子径を有するPTFEについて更に調
査を進めたところ、粒子径が40〜50μmを超える
と、ワイヤの送給性は逆に悪化する傾向にあった。ワイ
ヤ表面の硬さや粗さ、またPTFE付着量にも影響を受
けるが、特に過酷なワイヤ送給系を想定した場合、微粉
砕PTFEの粒子径としては、0.5〜10μmがより好
ましい範囲であった。

【作用】
(2)水分散型PTFEの検討 次に、有機溶媒を用いることの欠点をなくすために、P
TFE分散媒として、水の妥当性を検討した。PTFE
を水に直接分散することは不可能であるので、PTFE
の表面処理(酸化処理、アルコール処理)や各種界面活性
剤の適用を試みた。その結果、表面処理+界面活性剤の
適用により、PTFEを水に分散することは可能であっ
たが、分散したPTFEの安定性が悪く、短時間の内に
PTFEが分散、沈降してしまい、製造ラインへの適用
は困難と判断された。
【0017】そこで、フッ素ポリマーコーティング加工
技術について調査した結果、乳化重合でもPTFEが製
造されており、この乳化重合のPTFEは、PTFEの
水性ディスパージョンとして市販されているので、この
市販のPTFE水性ディスパージョンを入手し、ワイヤ
送給潤滑剤、伸線潤滑剤としての適用性を調べた。その
結果、市販のPTFE水性ディスパージョンをワイヤ送
給用潤滑剤、伸線用潤滑剤として用いるには、潤滑性能
を改善する必要があることが判明した。
【0018】この問題点を解決するために鋭意研究を重
ねた結果、有機溶媒分散型PTFEについての基礎実験
で得た知見を活かすことで解決できた。すなわち、PT
FE水性ディスパージョン中のPTFEは、その粒子径
が0.1〜0.4μmと小さいので、より大きいPTFE
をPTFE水性ディスパージョン中へ分散混合すること
で、潤滑性能の改善が解決された。一方、市販のPTF
E水性ディスパージョンからPTFEを濾過分離した瀘
液に同様の操作(すなわち、より大きいPTFEの分散
混合)を施したPTFE分散液は、PTFEを濾過分離
せずにより大きいPTFEを分散混合したPTFE分散
液に比較し、その潤滑性能が劣る傾向にあった。
【0019】PTFE水性ディスパージョン中へ混合す
るPTFEの粒子径は、0.5μm以上が必要である。
0.5μm未満ではワイヤ送給性、伸線性向上が期待でき
ない。しかし、40μmを超えると、ワイヤの送給性、
伸線性が逆に悪化するので、0.5〜40μmの範囲とす
る。0.5〜20μmが更に好ましい。
【0020】なお、PTFE水性ディスパージョン中へ
のPTFEの混合量は特に制限されるものではないが、
塗布液に対し5g/l以上が望ましい。
【0021】また、PTFEの固着性を向上させたい場
合には、樹脂系エマルジョンタイプのバインダーを添加
すると良い。バインダーとしては、水酸基、カルボキシ
ル基、エポキシ基、アミン基、アミド基、ニトリル基、
シラノール基等の官能基をフッ素系樹脂に共重合させた
ものが良いが、アクリル系、酢酸ビニル系のものも使用
可能で、使用条件によっては、フェノール系に代表され
るような熱硬化性のものでも適用可能である。バインダ
ーの添加量は、塗布液に対し0.1〜30vol%が推奨さ
れる。
【0022】本発明の潤滑剤は、従来のフロン分散型P
TFE潤滑剤に比較し、浸漬塗布方法では、ワイヤ表面
への均一塗布性にやや劣る傾向がある。したがって、特
にワイヤ表面への均一塗布が要求される場合には、静電
スプレー塗布法を採用するのが良い。また、塗布液に適
当な界面活性剤を、塗布液に対し0.01〜10vol%添
加することも有効である。
【0023】次に本発明の実施例を示す。

【実施例1】本例はワイヤ送給性についての例である。
まず、市販の水性PTFEディスパージョンに粒子径の
異なるPTFE粉を添加し、ホモジナイザーを用いて撹
拌混合して、供試潤滑剤を試作した。この供試潤滑剤を
静電スプレー塗布法によりステンレス鋼用フラックス入
りワイヤに塗布し、図1に示す装置を用いてワイヤの送
給性能を調査した。なお、ワイヤ表面にフッ素量を一定
範囲内(フロン分散型PTFEにおいて、良好なワイヤ
の送給性、溶接作業性が得られる範囲)にコントロール
して実施した。調査結果を供試潤滑剤の成分組成と共に
【表1】 に示す。ワイヤ送給抵抗とそのバラツキは
【表2】 に示す基準にて評価した。
【0025】試験No.1はフロン分散型PTFEを用い
た従来例であり、良好なワイヤ送給性能が得られてい
る。試験No.2は水性PTFEディスパージョン単独使
用の例であり、調査結果からも明らかなように、水性P
TFEディスパージョン単独では、良好なワイヤ送給性
能を得ることが困難である。これは、水性PTFEディ
スパージョン中のPTFE粒度が小さいためである。し
かし、PTFE無塗布のワイヤに比較すると、水性PT
FEディスパージョン単独塗布ワイヤの送給抵抗は少し
改善されることが確認された。
【0026】また、試験No.3は0.4μm未満の粒径を
有するPTFEを水性PTEFディスパージョン中に添
加した比較例であり、PTFE粒度が小さいので、良好
なワイヤ送給性能は得られていない。試験No.10は4
0μmを超える粒径のPTFEが水性PTFEディスパ
ージョン中に添加された比較例であり、PTFEの粒径
が40μmより大きいので、ワイヤの送給性は悪化して
いる。
【0027】これらに対し、試験No.4〜No.9は本発
明例であり、特にNo.4、No.6、No.7、No.8は水
性PTFEディスパージョンに添加されたPTFEの効
果により、ワイヤ送給抵抗やそのバラツキが少なく、良
好なワイヤ送給性能が得られている。
【0028】なお、試験No.5は本発明例であるが、水
性PTFEディスパージョンに添加したPTFEが少量
であったので、ワイヤ送給抵抗のバラツキが少し大きく
なっている。試験No.9も本発明例であるが、この場合
は、水性PTFEディスパージョンに添加したPTFE
が多量であったので、潤滑剤の粘度が非常に高く、ワイ
ヤへの均一塗布がやや困難となり、ワイヤ送給抵抗のバ
ラツキが少し大きくなっている。

【実施例2】本例はワイヤ伸線性についての例である。
まず、市販のPTFE水性ディスパージョンに粒子径の
異なるPTFE粉を添加し、ボールミルを用いて撹拌混
合し、供試潤滑剤を試作した。この供試潤滑剤をワイヤ
浸漬法によりステンレス鋼用ソリッドワイヤに塗布、熱
風乾燥後、生産ラインにて伸線試験を実施した。潤滑剤
の性能は、実生産ラインにおける伸線可能な最高速度で
評価した。実施例1と同様、ワイヤ表面のフッ素量を一
定範囲内(フロン分散型PTFEにおいて、良好なワイ
ヤの伸線性が得られる範囲)にコントロールして実施し
た。供試潤滑剤の成分組成及び伸線試験結果を

【0030】試験No.1は、フロン分散型PTFEを用
いた従来例であり、良好なワイヤ伸線性能が得られてい
る。試験No.2は水性PTFEディスパージョン単独使
用の例であり、水性PTFEディスパージョン中のPT
FE粒度が小さいので、良好な伸線性が得られなかっ
た。PTFE無塗布では全く伸線不可能であるのに比
べ、水性PTFEディスパージョン単独塗布ワイヤでは
低速度の伸線が可能ではあるものの、フロン分散型PT
FEを用いた従来例に比較すると、伸線性は不良であっ
た。
【0031】試験No.8は40μmより大きい粒径を有
するPTFEを水性PTFEディスパージョン中に添加
した比較例であり、PTFEの粒径が40μmより大き
いので、ワイヤの伸線性は悪化している。ワイヤ表面の
フッ素量から見て、PTFEの粒径が大きくなると、ワ
イヤ表面への付着性が悪くなるためと思われる。
【0032】これらに対し、試験No.3〜No.7は本発
明例であり、特に試験No3、No.5、No.6は、水性
PTFEディスパージョンに添加されたPTFEの効果
により良好なワイヤ伸線性能が得られている。試験No.
5の潤滑剤については、現行品よりも良好な伸線性が得
られている。
【0033】試験No.4は本発明例であるが、水性PT
FEディスパージョンに添加したPTFEが少量であっ
たので、フロン分散型PTFEを用いた従来例に比較す
ると、伸線性が少し悪い結果が得られている。試験No.
7は、水性PTFEディスパージョンにPTFEを多量
に添加した本発明例であり、原因については不明である
が、ダイスライフのバラツキが現行品に比較してやや大
きくなる傾向にあった。

【発明の効果】以上詳述したように、本発明によれば、
フロン系溶媒を用いないで優れた性能を有するワイヤ送
給用及び伸線用潤滑剤を提供することができる。
