材4の表面に弾性層2を被覆させ軸受け6aおよび6b
に両端を支持された加圧ローラ1とからなり、軸受け6
aおよび6bにそれぞれ加圧手段バネ10aおよび10
bによって荷重を印加し、加圧ローラ1の加熱ローラ7
に対する加圧力を軸受け6を介して間接的に付与する構
成である。加熱ローラ7と加圧ローラ1の圧接触する部
分に図示しない記録用紙の先端を挟み込み、図示しない
駆動手段の動力を駆動手段9に伝達して加熱ローラ7を
回転させ、記録用紙を搬送すると同時に所望の熱と圧力
とをトナーに与えるものである。尚、加圧ローラ1は駆
動手段を持たない従動型にするのが一般的である。また
トナーとの離型性をよくするために、加熱ローラ7と加
圧ローラ1の各々の表面にフッ素系の表面処理を施すの
が普通である。
2. 端部分のニップ幅Wが大きくなり過ぎて記録用紙の両端
部分に過剰な熱を与えることになり薄手の記録用紙に紙
シワが発生し易くなること、(3)案の場合、操作がわ
ずらわしいこと、等の新たな問題があり実用には適さな
い。

硬度の方が軟らかい軸方向の硬度分布を持つ加圧ローラ
を用いることにより、第1の実施例と同様に、中央部分
と両端部分のニップ幅Wの大きさを定着結果に影響を与
えない程度に均一にすることができる。

態を保つことができ、定着装置の長寿命化が図れ、定着
装置の交換作業頻度が低減でき、ランニングコストが安
くなるという効果も有する。
