Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent consumption of a liquid crystal display device and to realize save of electrical power consumption as an apparatus by constructing a liquid crystal display device which does not operate when there is no input of an image signal. CONSTITUTION:When an image signal is being input, a liquid crystal display circuit operates. At this time, presence of the image is judged by an image signal presence/absence judging circuit so that the power supply of each circuit in a display circuit is set ON. Then, when there is no image signal, no image is judged by the image signal presence/absence judging circuit and power supply from a power source to the each circuit of the display circuit is set OFF, so as to make protection of a display device. Therefore, consumption of a short- lifetime liquid crystal display device is prevented, in addition, save of electrical power to an apparatus on which the liquid crystal display device is installed can be realized.

First, when a video signal is input, the liquid crystal display circuit operates. At this time, the video signal presence/absence determination circuit determines that there is video, and turns on the power to each circuit of the display circuit. Next, if there is no video signal, the video signal presence/absence determining circuit determines that there is no video, so the power supply to each circuit of the display circuit can be turned off to protect the display device.
