Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of injection abnormality of a nozzle by compressing ink which is supplied into an ink jet head during the operation of a wiper, oozing the ink through the nozzle, and operating the wiper. CONSTITUTION:Ink is jetted through the nozzle of an ink jet head 2. A nozzle surface 20 of the head 2 is scraped with a wiper 4. In this cleaning method of the ink jet head, ink into the head 2 is compressed during wiper operation. A small amount of ink is made to ooze through the nozzle. Thus, intrusion of bubbles and dust into the nozzle is prevented. Scrapping operation with the wiper 4 is performed, and cleaning is performed. Thus, the intrusion of bubbles and dust into the nozzle can be prevented by the wiper operation, and the occurrence of the injection abnormality of the nozzle can be prevented by the cleaning.

In an inkjet head cleaning method that uses a wiper to scrape off the nozzle surface of an inkjet head that ejects ink from a nozzle, the purpose is to prevent nozzle jetting abnormalities from occurring even if the surface is scraped off. During operation, the wiper operates while ink oozes out from the nozzle by pressurizing the ink supplied to the inkjet head.

Inkjet printers spray tiny particles of ink directly onto the print medium from a head that does not contact the print medium, so there are fewer restrictions on the print medium, color printing can be easily achieved, high-speed printing is possible, and printing is possible. It has the feature of almost no noise, and various types such as piezoelectric type, electrostatic type, and bubble jet type are provided on the market.

However, because it handles a liquid called ink, it has the disadvantage that the nozzles are easily clogged, and a mechanism (hereinafter referred to as a backup mechanism) to prevent or recover from clogging is essential.

Conventional backup mechanisms consist of a wiper that scrapes paper powder and dust stuck around the nozzle surface of the head downwards, and a mechanism that sucks out air bubbles and thickened ink that have entered the nozzle from the nozzle side. Alternatively, a combination of a mechanism for pushing out ink from the supply side is known.

Conventionally, inkjet printers with this type of backup mechanism first operate the wiper to scrape off dust, paper powder, and thickened ink around the nozzle surface of the head, and then suck out or push out the ink inside the head. I was doing some cleaning.

With conventional technology, when the wiper scrubs around the nozzle, it may push air bubbles or dust into the nozzle, so even if such a problem occurs, if you continue to flow ink, the nozzle will return to normal. Thinking that the condition could be restored, the ink inside the head was sucked out or pushed out after the wiper operation was completed.

However, in reality, after this series of operations, a nozzle that was ejecting ink normally before the operation may malfunction in ejection. In other words, some of the dust adhering to the area around the nozzle is quite firmly attached, and in order to scrape it off, the wiper rubs the nozzle surface quite strongly, causing air bubbles and minute dust to get inside the nozzle. There was a problem in that there were a considerable number of cases in which such intrusions occurred, and even if ink was subsequently flushed, these problems could not be completely restored.
