Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a head of golf club which is hard, has a high modulus of elasticity, and excels in the vibratory suppressing characteristic, by forming the face of the head body in two-layer structure composed of a striking surface, which is formed from a vibro-suppressive alloy having a tensile strength over a specified value, and a resin layer made of visco-elastic highpolymer tightly adhered to the rear side of the mentioned striking surface. CONSTITUTION:In the head of a wood club according to the existing invention, the face 5 of the head body 1 is formed in two-layer structure composed of a striking surface A, which is made of a vibro-suppressive alloy having a tensile strength over 60kg/mm<2>, and a resin layer B made of visco-elastic highpolymer tightly adhered to the rear side of the mentioned striking surface A. A tensile strength below 60kg/mm<2> is too soft and can not offer a desired repulsive coefficient. Examples of such a vibro- suppressive alloy are Mn-Cu alloy, Cu-Al-Ni alloy, Cu-basis shape memory alloy, a shape memory alloy of Ti-Ni series, Ni-Co alloy, Fe-Cr alloy, ferrite stainless steel copper, and SUS 304 either solely or in a combination thereof. Their strengths are as high as between 60-140kg/mm<2>, and the internal friction ranges 30-60X10<-3>, providing satisfactory vibration suppressing performance, but for further enhancement of it, the resin layer B consisting of visco-elastic highpolymer is adhered to the rear side of the striking surface A.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Field of Industrial Application) The present invention relates to a head for a golf club, and is suitable for, for example, a head for a metal wood club.

(Prior Art) Various improvements have been made in the past in order to increase the flight distance of a batted ball. The idea in this case is to improve the coefficient of repulsion with the ball, and the main idea is to use a material with a high modulus of elasticity for the head (see Japanese Patent Publication No. 59-53059).

(Technical issue) However, if materials with high hardness and elastic modulus are used, much of the energy of the collision is released in the form of vibrations and sounds, and it is understood that this does not necessarily reflect on the flight distance. This suggests the use of materials that not only have high hardness and elastic modulus (but also have properties that make it difficult for collision energy to be dissipated in various ways).

(Technical Means) The object is to provide at least two layers of a striking surface made of a vibration-proofing alloy with a tensile strength of 60 kg/mm or more, and a resin layer made of a viscoelastic polymer closely adhered to the back side of the striking surface. This is achieved by forming the face of the head body with the two-layer structure.

The reason why the tensile strength is set to 60 Kg/ml11" or more is because if it is less than that, it is too soft and the desired coefficient of restitution cannot be obtained.

Furthermore, in FIG. 8, a hollow shell 31 is formed using a conventional metal material for heads, and its bottom surface is covered with viscoelastic resin IIB (the outer surface is coated with viscoelastic resin IIB), and the outer surface except for the bottom surface and face is covered with viscoelastic resin IIB. (Function) The present invention is constructed as described above, and although the head is entirely or mostly made of metal and the face that actually contacts the ball is also located in front of the metal, the metal is vibration-proof. Since it is made of an alloy, the energy of the collision when the ball is hit is due to contact with a metal with high tensile strength, but it hardly changes to vibration, so the repulsion coefficient (
elastic modulus) is maintained high. Moreover, vibrations are also suppressed by the resin layer made of viscoelastic polymer that is closely adhered to the inside of the head body, so that the energy of the collision is less likely to be dissipated.

(Effects) Therefore, according to the present invention, even if the wall thickness of the head body is thin (even if the head body has good vibration-proofing performance, it can be made lighter and can also be made into a top-shaped body, and the outer shape can be made high-strength and vibration-proof. Since it is an alloy, there is no risk of damage, and on the other hand, if the outer shape is the same as the conventional one, the amount of alloy used can be reduced, which has the advantage of being able to be provided at a low cost.In particular, the product of the present invention is hard and has a high modulus of elasticity. At the same time, since it is difficult to generate vibrations, the impact energy can be directly converted into repulsion, resulting in significant effects such as significantly extending flight distance.
