Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain new fluorescent pattern in high mass-productivity with a simple operation procedure by forming a pattern on a tile surface with a fluorescent coating composition containing a water-repelling material, applying an aqueous solution a low-melting glaze to the tile surface to apply the glaze to the part except for the pattern and baking the tile at a low temperature. CONSTITUTION:A tile 1 having a glazed layer 3 is prepared by conventional process by glazing the surface of a tile body 2 having a prescribed shape and baking the glazed tile. A proper pattern is applied to the surface of the glaze layer 3 with a fluorescent coating composition 4 containing a fluorescent paint and a water-repelling material. An aqueous solution of a low-melting glaze 5 is applied to the whole surface of the tile 1 having the pattern to attach the glaze 5 exclusively to the surface of the tile except for the part of the pattern (the glaze 5 does not attach to the pattern part owing to the water- repellency). Finally, the tile 1 is baked at a low temperature to obtain a tile having a fluorescent surface pattern and the remaining non-fluorescent glaze layer 5. The baking temperature is properly selected within the range of 500-800 deg.C or thereabout.
