However, these conventional whitening cosmetics are made using cultured cells.
Although in vitro experiments have shown that it suppresses melanin production, when it is actually applied to the skin, it does not sufficiently eliminate pigmentation or lighten the color, and there are problems with side effects such as irritation.

The present inventors have discovered that a synergistic effect that is excellent in eliminating pigmentation or lightening the color of the skin, and that a skin-whitening cosmetic with suppressed irritation can be obtained, leading to the completion of the present invention.

Some animal and vegetable oils and fats contain saturated fatty acids such as valmitic acid and stearic acid, but these saturated fatty acids do not exhibit a pigmentation-suppressing effect, and in some cases may even promote melanin production. Therefore, it is preferable to use sufficiently purified fatty acids.

When the free fatty acid, its salt, or alkyl ester is blended alone, there is only slight lightening of the pigmentation. On the other hand, when 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone and the fatty acid or its derivative are used in combination, significant pigmentation is observed.
