Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to assure a sealing property by inserting a lead wire into the cavity of a connector housing in the condition where a terminal fitting is provided on the end, and making heat treatment while the lead wire receiving part of the housing is nippedly pressed from the outside. CONSTITUTION:The lead wire 1 coated 2 with a soft polyvinyl chloride material is inserted into the cavity 5 of the connector housing 4 formed with hard polyvinyl chloride in the condition where a terminal fitting 3 is provided on the end. Then a lead wire receiving part 6 is arranged between a pair of electrodes 7 and 7' arranged with a suitable space to highfrequency heating machine. Moreover the part 6 is highfreguency-heated while nippedly pressed with a pair of electrodes 7 and 7' in the condition where recessed parts 8a-8c and 8a'-8c', formed on the electrodes 7 and 7' surface facing each other, are made to correspond to the part where the lead wire 1 is placed. Consequently the part 6 is pushed in toward the center in its radius direction to adhere closely along all peripheries of the coating 2 of the wire 1. This assures watertightness.

[Function] Lead wires covered with soft polysalt 1-hibinyl material,
After inserting the terminal with the terminal fitting attached into the cavity of the connector housing made of hard polyvinyl chloride, the lead wire receiving part is held between the electrodes of the high-frequency heating machine installed above and below the part. The material is compressed in the soaked state and subjected to heat treatment.

At this time, the surface of the electrode that holds the lead wire reception part is recessed at a location corresponding to the part where the lead wire is located, and as a result, the lead wire reception part is pushed toward the center in the radial direction. It is compressed and tightly adheres to the lead wire covering and its entire circumference.

Since both the lead wire receiving portion of the connector housing and the lead wire sheathing are made of polyvinyl chloride, they are very easily melted together and integrated.

(See Fig. 3) [Effect J] As is clear from the above-described embodiments, the present invention eliminates the above-mentioned conventional drawbacks ① to ②, and further improves the relationship between the connector housing and the terminal fittings by reducing the lead wire receiving portion. This can also be guaranteed by the integral relationship between the lead wire and the lead wire sheath.

Furthermore, since the waterproof connector manufactured by the present invention is intended for use in wiring harnesses for motorcycles,
The connector does not need to be heat resistant like the one used in the engine room of a passenger car, and therefore polyvinyl chloride, which has poor thermal stability, can be used as the material for the lead wire sheath and the connector housing.
