Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to manufacture a dial at a low cost in short delivery time by removing nonconductive film layer on projecting parts such as characters and marks, and electrodepositing a conductive thermosetting paint on a ground metal layer of the exposed dial base. CONSTITUTION:A surface pattern is formed on a dial base 1 by mechanical machining. An applied layer 2 of a nonconductive film is formed thereon. Thereafter, parts which are to become characters, marks and the like are made to protrude with dies. Then, only the protruding parts are cut with a diamond bite and the like, and the layer 2 is removed. The conductive ground metal surface is exposed. An electrodeposited layer 3 is formed with a conductive thermosetting paint such as cation type epoxy resin and acrylic resin. The protruding characters, marks and the like are colored. In this method, the characters, marks and the like on the dial for a wrist watch can be readily colored in a three-dimensional pattern. Even the thin characters can be precisely formed. Design variety can be expanded, and the dial can be formed at a low cost in a short delivery time.

In the present invention, a surface pattern is formed by machining on the dial base, plating is applied if necessary, and a non-conductive film layer is formed by painting on the surface pattern, and then parts such as letters, abbreviations, marks, etc. are made convex. The convex part of the coating layer is removed by canting with a diamond tool, etc. to expose the conductive base metal layer, and the conductive thermosetting paint is electrodeposited only on this part to form the convex part. This is an attempt to colorize characters, abbreviations, marks, etc.

Conventionally, dials for wristwatches have been made by applying radial openings, vertical grains, etc. to the fabric, plating or painting the cloth, and then planting letters on top. Although this method allows a three-dimensional dial to be obtained, the disadvantage is that the letters are made separately and then implanted on the base, which requires a large number of processing steps and increases costs.

As a method to save the time and effort of embedding letters, a surface pattern is formed by machining on the dial base, the parts that should become letters are raised with a mold, and the letter shapes are created by cutting these raised parts with a diamond cutting tool. Finally, if necessary, there is a method of plating the text to create a dial. (Hereinafter, referred to as the WD method.) However, the finishing of the character portions of the dials produced using the WD method was mainly plating, and many of them were simple.

The curved portion of the non-conductive paint layer is removed and a conductive thermosetting paint is electrodeposited on the exposed metal surface. In the present invention, cationic epoxy resin, acrylic resin, etc. are used as the paint. did. By mixing fine metal powder into the paint, it is also possible to give the electrodeposition coating layer a metallic luster.

For electrodeposition coating, the dial base is degreased and cleaned, immersed in a solution containing electrodeposition coating liquid, the dial base is used as a cathode, the stainless steel plate is used as an anode, and a direct current of 50 to 150 V is applied between the two electrodes. This is obtained by applying electricity for 1 to 3 minutes, and the electrodeposition paint is applied only to the convex metal surface from which the non-conductive coating layer has been removed.
