Abstract

PURPOSE: To find out a pseudourine sample by providing a cupshaped cover member for preventing splash of urine and fixing a temperature-sensitive member to a urine sample collecting case. CONSTITUTION: A cup-shaped member 12 and a cover member 14 constitute a urine sample introduction sampler 10. The cover member 14 is provided with a tubular boss 24. A tubular outlet stem 28 is provided on the bottom of cup- shaped member 12 and screwed with a urine sample collecting case 32. The handle parts 16,, 18 of cup-shaped member 12 and cover member 14 are heat sealed such that the cover member 14 can be oscillated. A temperature-sensitive member 42 applied with temperaturesensitive plates 46, 48, 50 discoloring at a predetermined temperature is fixed to the bottom of collecting case 32. According to the structure, urine can be prevented from being splashed by means of the cover member 14 and a pseudo, incorrect, uncertain or old urine sample can be found by means of the temperature-sensitive member 42.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Conventionally, it is known to utilize a funnel-shaped introduction member for use in combination with a collection container for a sanitary sample collector. U.S. Design Patent No. 227,413, U.S. Patent No. 3,711,871 and U.S. Patent Specification 3
, 811,136 discloses a trio of sample collectors that use funnel-shaped introducers. These devices have a common drawback that urine easily splashes onto the urine sample donor. Also, another drawback of these devices is that they do not have sufficient overflow means. In addition to the adjunctive use of funnel-shaped introduction members, there is an increasing need for drug screening methods that can ensure that the obtained urine sample is not spurious, fraudulent, uncertain, or outdated. There is.

(Means for Solving the Problems, Actions and Effects of the Invention) According to the present invention, the aforementioned limitations and drawbacks of the prior art are effectively overcome. In particular, a urine sample collector is provided that incorporates a bowl-shaped introduction member into a hygienic collection container. The bowl-shaped introduction member has a threaded bottom opening that allows drainage to flow to a collection container attachment. a cover member provides splash protection for the bowl-shaped member;
Further, it is swingably fixed to the handle means. The cover member has a raised boss terminating in an open top that allows urination through the cover member. For quick and efficient filling of the collection container, the collection container is secured to the bowl-shaped member with its threaded opening, which opening substantially corresponds to the opening of the upright boss of the cover member. They are lined up. The cover member is retracted from the lower forward end of the bowl to provide overflow from the bowl.

Additionally, a temperature sensing member can be placed outside or inside the collection container to indicate a simulated urine sample by heat transfer through the collection container or by direct contact with the urine itself. The temperature sensing member has a portion or separate region that irreversibly changes color at a preselected temperature when it is placed in such close proximity as to exchange heat with the urine sample and each other. In order to detect spurious, fraudulent, uncertain, or old urine samples, the temperature sensing member has at least one portion or separation area exhibiting a temperature for the sample that is slightly below normal body temperature; and at least one other portion or separation region exhibiting a sample temperature slightly above normal body temperature of 6° F. For example, in a preferred form of the invention, a series of temperature sensitive letters or discs are attached to a suitable liner, which liner is positioned below the urine level in the collection container. It is glued to the outside of the collection container or to the inner bottom of the collection container. Approximately 32°C (90°
F), approximately 35°C (95°F), approximately 38°C (100°F)
Three sets of letters or three sets of discs are used, which are preset at the time of manufacture to change colors. For regular urine samples, the letter set or disc is manufactured by American Thermometer Company, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, or Tenville, a division of Bixley Industries, Saxe-Branfield, New Chassis. is produced by.

(Example) Referring to FIG.
It is indicated by 0. The urine sample introduction and collection device 10 includes a bowl-shaped member 12 which is substantially open at the top thereof. A cover member 14 substantially completely closes the open top of the bowl-shaped member 12. In addition, the cover member 14
functions as a droplet shield when the urine sample introduction/collection device 10 is used in combination with a collection container described later. The urine sample introduction/collection device 10 constitutes the urine sample collection device of the present invention together with a collection container 32 described later and a temperature sensing member 42 described later.

The bowl-shaped member 12, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 7, has a handle means, in the illustrated example an integral handle portion 16, at its rearmost and highest portion. The cover member 14 also has an integral handle portion 18 which is a handle means overlying and secured to the handle portion 16 . The drawings show an alignment hole or opening 22 through the handle portion 16.18 through which a fastening member (not shown) can pass. However, in a preferred form of the invention, the two integral handle portions 16,18 of the stiffener are heat sealed together to pivotally seat the cover member 14.

Cover member 14 further includes a substantially flat open end 2.
A raised overall cylindrical boss 24 terminating at 6 is provided. A tubular outlet stem 28 provided with a threaded interior 30 at the bottom of the bowl-shaped member 12 substantially opposes the opening 26 of the raised cylindrical boss 24 . As shown in FIG. 7, the collection container 32 is fixed to the bowl-shaped member 12 by screwing. Collection vessel 32 can be of any desired size and shape for various purposes of the present invention.

As shown in FIGS. 1, 3 and 4, a bowl-shaped member 1
2 has a substantially teardrop-shaped planar shape. This substantially teardrop-shaped profile defines the foreshortened end 36 of the cover member 14.
terminating in a substantially pointed front end 34 remote from the urine sample introduction and collection device 10, thereby providing an opening through which overflow from the urine sample introduction and collection device 10 can pass. As is apparent from FIGS. 2 and 7, the rear end 38 of the bowl-shaped member 12 is substantially higher than the front end 34. With the aid of the handle part 16.18, the user, usually a woman, stands up in order to urinate directly through the opening 26 of the cylindrical boss 24 into the collection container 32.
The handle portion 16,18 is at the top and the bowl-shaped member 12
The urine sample introduction and collection device 10 and its attached collection container 32 can be held in close proximity to the body such that the front end 34 of the urine sample collection device 10 is at the bottom. The substantially linear arrangement of opening 26 and the opening of collection vessel 32 is best shown in FIGS. 3, 4, and 7. The foreshortened end 36 of the cover member 14 and the pointed front end of the bowl-shaped member 12 when the urine sample introduction collector 10 and attached collection container 32 are held in the use position by the top handle portion 16.18. An opening between the parts allows overflow urine to flow into a regular toilet bowl. As shown in FIGS. 1, 5 and 6, the sides of the bowl-shaped member 12 taper inwardly so that the sides engage the edges of the cover member 14;
As shown in FIG. 1, the depth to which the cover member 14 can penetrate into the bowl-shaped member 12 is limited. When the rear end 38 of the bowl-shaped member 12 is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from its FIG. It swings away from the bottom of the member 12, thus facilitating the ability of the device to dispose of overflowing urine when it occurs. The material used for the urine sample introduction collector 10 is preferably a plastic material such as Styrofoam™ or polypropylene.

Preferably, the temperature sensing member 42a is irreversible so that spurious urine samples can be easily detected. In this embodiment, the temperature of the urine is obtained by heat transfer through the collection container 32a. If the temperature sensing member is mounted at a level above the level of the urine sample in the collection container, sufficiently close heat transfer will not be achieved.
