他方、１本の糸に、太い部分、細い部分をランダムに施したムラ糸は、紡績技術が未発達の段階では糸のムラとして嫌われる傾向にあったが、紡績技術の発達に伴い均一な太さの糸が安定して供給されるようになった近年では、不均一な色落ちや風合いなどが評価され、特許文献１に示すようにジーンズに意図的に用いられたりしている。また、特許文献２にあっては、モップのような床面や壁面を清掃するための清掃具に適するパイル用繊維糸として、以上の単糸を寄り合わせて原糸とし、複数本の前記原糸を撚り合わせたものとして、複数本の前記原糸が、最大太さを有する第１原糸と、次に太い太さを有する第２原糸とを少なくとも有し、前記パイル用繊維糸の繊維方向の表面に前記第１原糸により第１凸部が形成され、前記第２原糸により第２凸部が形成され、前記第１凸部と前記第２凸部の高低差により前記繊維方向の表面に凹凸パターンを形成することによって、ペット毛などの捕集性を向上させるが提案されている。ところがこの特許文献２の提案は、清掃用具としての捕集性の向上という特殊な用途における提案であることがもちろん、前記第１原糸と前記第２原糸のそれぞれは均一な糸の太さのものを用いることを前提としている。

それ以上撚ると柔らかさが無くなり、少ないとパイル立ちが悪くなり、凹凸感が減少するおそれがあるが、変更して実施することを妨げない。
