Claims (8)
- 第1電極を備える第1基板と、
前記第1基板に略平行に対向配置され、第2電極を備える第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板の間に配置され、誘電率異方性が正の液晶材料を用いて構成され、前記第1及び第2基板面上で液晶分子が略水平配向し、前記第1基板と前記第2基板の間で液晶分子配向状態が略90°捩れたツイストネマチック液晶層と、
前記第1基板の前記液晶層とは反対面側に配置された第1偏光板と、
前記第2基板の前記液晶層とは反対面側に、前記第1偏光板と略平行ニコルに配置された第2偏光板と、
前記第1基板と前記第1偏光板の間に配置され、正の一軸光学異方性を備える光学フィルムと、
前記第1または第2偏光板の前記液晶層とは反対面側に配置され、青色光を出射する光源と
を有し、
前記第1及び第2基板法線方向から見たとき、前記第1及び第2電極が重なる位置に画定される表示部が、少なくともセグメント表示部を含み、
前記液晶層のリタデーションΔndは2μmより大きく、
前記第1及び第2偏光板の吸収軸方位と、前記第1または第2基板面上での液晶分子配向方位が平行であり、
前記光学フィルムは、Aプレートであり、
前記光学フィルムの遅相軸方位と、前記第1及び第2偏光板の吸収軸方位は平行または直交し、
前記光学フィルムの面内位相差は300nm〜430nmであり、
前記液晶層の厚さ方向の中央に位置する液晶分子の配向方位に直交する2方位の観察角度40°〜50°から観察したとき、非表示部、及び、前記第1、第2電極間に電圧の印加されていない表示部の透過光強度が、前記光学フィルムを配置しない場合の透過光強度未満となる液晶表示装置。 - 更に、
前記液晶層の厚さ方向の中央に位置する液晶分子の配向方位に直交する2方位の観察角度40°〜50°から観察したとき、前記第1、第2電極間に駆動波形を印加して暗表示とした表示部の透過光強度が、前記光学フィルムを配置しない場合の透過光強度未満となる請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記光学フィルムの面内位相差は300nm〜405nmであり、
前記液晶層の厚さ方向の中央に位置する液晶分子の配向方位に直交する1方位の観察角度40°〜50°から観察したとき、前記第1、第2電極間に駆動波形を印加して明表示とした表示部の透過光強度が、前記光学フィルムを配置しない場合の透過光強度より強くなる請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記光学フィルムの面内位相差は345nm〜375nmであり、
前記液晶層の厚さ方向の中央に位置する液晶分子の配向方位に直交する2方位の観察角度40°〜50°から観察したとき、前記第1、第2電極間に駆動波形を印加して明表示とした表示部の透過光強度が、前記光学フィルムを配置しない場合の透過光強度より強くなる請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 更に、
前記第1、第2電極に電気的に接続され、前記第1、第2電極間に、1/4 duty以下のマルチプレックス駆動波形、またはスタティック駆動波形を印加する駆動装置と
を有する請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記光源は、中心波長490nmの光を発光する発光体を備える請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記光源は、白色光を発光する発光体、及び、中心波長490nmの青色カラーフィルタを備える請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1、第2基板の少なくとも一方が、前記液晶層側の面に凹凸を備える請求項1〜7のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
