貨物タンクは、概して平坦で概して可撓性の基部を有しており、

タンク側圧力面のそれぞれに隣接に、絶縁層が配設されており、
絶縁層のそれぞれに隣接に、各絶縁層の他方側には、船の側面又は隔壁へ締結されている対応する船体側圧力面が配設されており、
タンク側圧力面38と船体側圧力面39は、直交する力線がタンクのシェル23の中央に対して概ね接線方向に向かうように整列されている、システムに関する。
第1の好適な実施形態では、船は、複数の円柱形状のタンクが垂直に配設された状態で具備されている船舶である。輸送船及び貯蔵船の中の冷却液体ガス用に設計された円柱形状の貨物タンクのための支持システムを提示している。
タンクの内容物からの圧力は、支持体要素へ均等に分散されて、更に船41の底部構造体を通り、次いで船の外底部10への水圧へと伝わる。このやり方では、タンクから船の構造体へは何らの大きな曲げモーメントも掛からない。仮に底部が剛性構造を有していれば、これは実現するのが困難となろう。普及している独立支持式タンクは、普通は、タンクの例えば下方の輪体の中にある部分だけを覆っている支持フレームと、タンクの基部の外側部分を覆っている支持フレームと、を有している。
構造は、例えば温度変動によって主導される変形や船舶41の動きに起因する力を含め全ての力が、貨物タンク4、40へも船舶へも望ましからざる応力を与えることなく伝播されるように、十分な可撓性を絶縁層26、15に持たせている。貨物タンクは、対応する支点対8に何らの追加の力を与えることなく半径方向に自由に膨張又は収縮できる。これは、例えばLNGの場合ほどに大きな温度変動が予想される場合には特に重要である。
図15及び図16には、支点マス9の構造が提示されている。それは、支点対8と同様のやり方で造られているが、それは追加として支点対8に直交している対応する配設を有しており、その結果、組み合わされた構造が、荷重及び反動荷重を、互いに逆向きの2方向と2方向を概ね直交させた4方向へ支持する。当業者は、これへの考えられる変型が実現可能であることに気付かれることであろう。例えば、3つの対称又は非対称の方向を有する構造があろう。別の変型は、円形型のタンク側支持体と、対応する円形の船体側支持体配設と、を用いて実施することができるであろう。これは、図面上には示されていない。その様な変型は異なった実施形態への起点となるものであり、それら異なった実施形態はここでは詳細に記載されていないが、異なった寸法及び形状の貨物タンク4、104を具備する船41、141の異なった運動パターンに適合させることができるであろう。当業者には理解されるであろうが、全てのその様な実施形態及び変型は、各々の力伝播用のタンク側圧力面と船体側圧力面に対応する絶縁層26を有している。
