Description
「発光素子」なる用語は、例えば自身の両端間に電位差を印加する又は自身を介して電流を流すことにより駆動された場合に、例えば可視領域、赤外及び/又は紫外領域等の電磁スペクトルの或る領域又は領域の組み合わせにおいて放射を放出するデバイスを定義するために使用される。従って、発光素子は、単色、準単色、多色又は広帯域スペクトル放出特性を有することができる。発光素子の例は、半導体、有機又は高分子(ポリマ)/重合性(ポリメリック)発光ダイオード、光学的にポンピングされた蛍光体被覆発光ダイオード、光学的にポンピングされたナノ結晶発光ダイオード又は当業者により容易に理解される他の同様のデバイスを含む。更に、発光素子なる用語は、例えばLEEダイ等の上記放射を放出する固有のデバイスを定義するために使用され、上記放射を放出する固有のデバイスと該固有のデバイスが配置されるハウジング又はパッケージとの組み合わせを定義するためにも等しく使用することができる。
当該光源は、通常は、1以上の発光素子を有する。先に定義したように、斯かる1以上の発光素子は、オプションとして、ハウジング、出力光学系(例えば、半球レンズ等のレンズ、フィルタ、コーティング等)及び駆動回路等を種々の組み合わせで有する発光素子パッケージを有することができる。一実施例において、発光素子は、当該光源に、当該発光素子を駆動するように構成された駆動回路に動作的に結合された基板を介して取り付けられる。例えば、発光素子は印刷回路基板(PCB)等を介して駆動することができ、斯かる印刷回路基板は単一の発光素子を駆動するように固有に構成されるか、又は種々の直列及び/又は並列構成で接続された発光素子の群又はアレイを駆動するように構成することができる。
当該光源はフォトセンサ光ガイドを有し、該フォトセンサ光ガイドは、前記1以上の発光素子により放出される光の一部を捕捉するための1以上の入力結合部と、該ガイドに光学的に結合された1以上のフォトセンサにより感知されるべき上記光の一部の少なくとも幾らかを抽出するための1以上の出力結合部とを有している。一実施例において、該フォトセンサ光ガイドは略平らな光ガイドである。
当該光源は、該光源のフォトセンサ光ガイドにおける前記1以上の出力結合部に光学的に結合された1以上のフォトセンサを有する。該1以上のフォトセンサは、通常は、当該光源の前記1以上の発光素子の出力をモニタするために使用され、感知された信号は、通常は、所望の光源出力を実質的に維持するための後述する出力コントローラ及び/又は制御システムの一部として使用される。
一般的に、当該光源は1以上の発光素子を有し、これら発光素子の出力は該光源の全体の光出力に寄与する。斯かる1以上の発光素子の各々の出力をモニタすることにより、制御された光源出力を得ることができる。例えば、制御用として考えられ得る種々の出力パラメータは、これらに限定されるものではないが、当該光源の放射出力パワー及び出力光度等、並びに色度、色品質及び/又は演色効率を含む。他の斯様なパラメータも当業者にとり明らかであり、従って本開示の範囲及び趣旨から逸脱するものではない。
本発明の光源は、オプションとして、例えば前記光ガイドに周囲光が侵入するのを阻止するために及び/又は該光ガイドの光案内特性を促進するために光ガイドカバーを有することができる。
Claims (17)
- 光源であって、
1以上の入力結合部及び1以上の出力結合部を有する略平らな光ガイドと、
各々が対応する光軸の周辺に光を放出するように構成されると共に、該光の軸方向成分が少なくとも部分的に前記光源の出力に向けられ、且つ、前記光の半径方向成分が前記1以上の入力結合部を介して前記略平らな光ガイド内に少なくとも部分的に結合されるように配置された1以上の発光素子と、
前記1以上の出力結合部に光学的に結合された1以上のフォトセンサであって、前記1以上の発光素子の出力を該フォトセンサにより感知される出力結合された光に基づいて制御するのに使用する1以上のフォトセンサと、
合成された光源出力を供給するために各々が対応する発光スペクトルを有する2以上の発光素子と、を有し、
前記1以上の入力結合部のうちの1以上が入力結合エッジ部を有し、
前記入力結合エッジ部が前記1以上の発光素子のうちの1以上を少なくとも部分的に囲み、前記1以上の入力結合部の各々は、前記1以上の発光素子のうちの対応する発光素子が少なくとも部分的に挿通配置される開口を前記略平らな光ガイド内に画定する入力結合エッジ部を有し、
前記1以上のフォトセンサが前記合成された光源出力を実質的に維持するために前記2以上の発光素子の相対出力を制御するのに使用される、
光源。 - 前記入力結合エッジ部が、前記1以上の発光素子のうちの1以上が少なくとも部分的に挿通配置される開口を画定する請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記合成された光源出力が実質的に白色光である請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記2以上の発光素子が、赤色、緑色、琥珀色及び青色発光素子の各々の1以上を有する請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記1以上のフォトセンサに動作的に結合されると共に、前記1以上の発光素子を前記フォトセンサにより感知される前記出力結合された光の関数として駆動する出力コントローラを更に有する請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記1以上の出力結合部が出力結合表面部を有する請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記出力結合表面部がテクスチャ化された表面部分を有している請求項6に記載の光源。
- 前記半径方向成分が迷光を有している請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記光ガイドが単一の出力結合部の周囲に実質的に対称に配置された2以上の入力結合部を有している請求項1に記載の光源。
- 周囲光が前記光ガイドに侵入するのを少なくとも部分的に阻止する光ガイドカバーを更に有している請求項1に記載の光源。
- 前記光ガイドカバーが、前記光ガイドを該カバーに結合し、これにより前記光ガイドを該カバーに対して位置決めする1以上の光ガイド結合エレメントを有している請求項10に記載の光源。
- 前記光ガイドカバーが、前記光ガイド内の内部反射を実質的に維持するための反射性コーティングを有している請求項10に記載の光源。
- 前記反射性コーティングが前記光ガイドの表面上に配されている請求項12に記載の光源。
- 前記光ガイドカバーが、前記光ガイドへの周囲光の侵入を更に低減するために前記反射性コーティング上に配された実質的に不透明なコーティングを更に有している請求項13に記載の光源。
- 光源であって、
1以上の発光素子と、
1以上の入力結合部及び1以上の出力結合部を有し、前記1以上の発光素子から放出される迷光を前記1以上の入力結合部を介して捕捉する略平らな光ガイドと、
前記1以上の出力結合部に光学的に結合された1以上のフォトセンサであって、前記1以上の発光素子の各々の出力を該フォトセンサにより感知される出力結合された光に基づいて制御するのに使用する1以上のフォトセンサと、
合成された光源出力を供給するために各々が対応する波長で光を放出する2以上の発光素子と、を有し、
前記入力結合部が入力結合エッジ部を有し、
前記1以上の入力結合部の各々は、前記1以上の発光素子のうちの対応する発光素子が少なくとも部分的に挿通配置される開口を前記略平らな光ガイド内に画定する入力結合エッジ部を有し、
前記1以上のフォトセンサが前記合成された光源出力を実質的に維持するために前記2以上の発光素子の相対出力を制御するのに使用される、
光源。 - 前記迷光が前記1以上の発光素子により放出された光の半径方向成分を有する請求項15に記載の光源。
- 前記1以上のフォトセンサに動作的に結合されると共に、前記1以上の発光素子を前記フォトセンサにより感知される前記出力結合された光の関数として駆動する出力コントローラを更に有する請求項15に記載の光源。
