Claims (26)
- (a)1nmから5μmの範囲の平均粒径を有する粒子と、
ポリマーを形成することができる物質を含む組成物であって、液状物質を更に含む前記組成物と、
を、いずれかの順序で提供するステップと、
(b)前記粒子と前記組成物とを混合するステップと、
(c)熱誘起相分離(thermal induced phase separation(TIPS))、又は溶媒誘起相分離(solvent induced phase separation(SIPS))によって、前記組成物にポリマーを形成させることにより、内部に前記粒子を取り込み、かつ、前記液状物質によって占有される微細孔を有する多孔性ポリマーを形成するステップと、
を含み、
前記粒子は、非導電性であることを特徴とする、ポリマー分散液晶の製造方法。 - 前記粒子は、化学的に反応しないことを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記粒子は、金属、液晶物質、ポリマー、色素、及び透明導電酸化物に対して化学的に反応しないことを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の方法。

- 前記粒子は、架橋したシリコーン樹脂、架橋したポリスチレン、架橋したアクリル樹脂、PMMA、メラミン−ホルムアルデヒド樹脂、芳香族ポリアミド樹脂、ポリイミド樹脂、ポリアミド−イミド樹脂、架橋したポリエステル、フッ素で処理したポリマー、金属酸化物、二酸化ケイ素、炭素から選択される物質で形成される、又はコートされることを特徴とする、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 前記粒子は、架橋したシリコーン樹脂、架橋したポリスチレン架橋したアクリル樹脂、メラミン−ホルムアルデヒド樹脂、芳香族ポリアミド樹脂、ポリイミド樹脂、ポリアミド−イミド樹脂、架橋したポリエステル、アルミニウム酸化物、二酸化ケイ素、ダイヤモンド、及び上述したうちのいずれかの混合物から選択される耐熱性ポリマーで形成される、又はコートされることを特徴とする、請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記粒子は、前記組成物の重量に対して0.1wt.%〜20wt.%の濃度でステップ(b)における前記組成物と混合されることを特徴とする、請求項1〜10のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- (A)第1の基板と第2の基板との間にステップ(b)の生成物を積層することによって、請求項1〜11のいずれかの方法を実行して、
第1の基板と、第2の基板と、の間に多孔性ポリマーマトリクスを得るためにステップ(c)を実行して、
前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスが、前記粒子を中に取り込んで、前記液状物質によって占有される微細孔を有するステップと、
(B)前記第2の基板を前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスの表面からリフトオフするステップと、
(C)前記液状物質を前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスから除去して、それを第2の液晶物質に置き換えるステップと、
(D)第2の基板を前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスの表面に置いて、それによりポリマー分散液晶セルを取得するステップと、
を含む、ポリマー分散液晶セルの製造方法。 - 5秒〜3時間の範囲の間、30℃〜200℃の範囲の温度まで前記ポリマー分散液晶セルを熱するステップである、ステップ(E)を更に含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- ステップ(E)において、前記ポリマー分散液晶セルは、30℃〜120℃の範囲の温度まで、熱せられることを特徴とする、請求項13に記載の方法。
- ステップ(E)は、5秒〜60分の間、実行されることを特徴とする、請求項14に記載の方法。
- ステップ(C)及び(D)は、CD、又はDCの順、又は互いに同時に起こることを特徴とする、請求項12〜15のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- ステップ(C)が、洗浄、吸引、及び蒸発、から選択される方法によって、前記液状物質を除去することと、
前記第2の液晶物質を前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスに吸引すること、前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスを前記第2の液晶物質でフラッディングする(flooding)こと、前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスを前記第2の液晶物質に浸すこと、毛管力で真空条件下において前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスを前記第2の液晶物質で満たすこと、及び前記第2の液晶物質を前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクス上にドロップキャスティングすること、から選択される方法によって、前記第2の液晶物質を前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスに添加することと、
によって実行されることを特徴とする、請求項12〜16のいずれか1項に記載の方法。 - 前記第2の液晶物質は、色素がドープされていることを特徴とする、請求項12〜17のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 前記ポリマー分散液晶セルは、透過型セルであり、
前記第1の基板及び第3の基板の双方は、透明であることを特徴とする、請求項12〜18のいずれか1項に記載の方法。 - 前記ポリマー分散液晶セルは、反射型セルであり、
前記第1の基板及び第3の基板の一方は、反射型又は部分的に反射型であって、
前記第1の基板及び前記第3の基板の他方は、透過型であることを特徴とする、請求項12〜18のいずれか1項に記載の方法。 - 請求項1〜11のいずれかに記載の方法によって製造される、ポリマー分散液晶。
- 請求項12〜20のいずれかに記載の方法によって生産される、ポリマー分散液晶セル。
- 前記第1の基板及び前記第3の基板を離隔しておくために、前記第1の基板及び前記第3の基板の間に配列されたスペーサを付加的に備える、請求項22に記載のポリマー分散液晶セル。
- 前記スペーサは、ポリマー又はガラスで形成される、請求項23に記載のポリマー分散液晶セル。
- 請求項22〜24のいずれかで定義された少なくとも2つのポリマー分散液晶セルを含む、液晶ディスプレイ。
- 内部に前記粒子を取り込んだ多孔性ポリマーマトリクスであり、前記多孔性ポリマーマトリクスが液晶物質によって占有される微細孔を有する、ポリマー分散液晶を製造するためのものであって、
前記粒子が、ポリマーを形成することができる物質を含む組成物に添加され、
前記組成物は、液状物質を含み、
前記粒子の添加後、前記組成物は、熱誘起相分離(thermal induced phase separation(TIPS))、又は溶媒誘起相分離(solvent induced phase separation(SIPS))によって、ポリマーを形成させられることで、前記ポリマー分散液晶が取得されることを特徴とする、請求項1〜11のいずれかで定義された、粒子の使用方法。
