Abstract

An electrically powered, heated flat iron (1) has a first handle (2) and a second handle (3) joined by a hinge (4). Description

  The present invention relates to a hand-held hair styling device, and more particularly to a hair styling device having a heating plate.

  Various known hair styling irons have a heated flat plate. Some flat irons have a non-flat heating surface that includes one or more of ridges, grooves, pins, and channels. However, all of these have specific purposes such as shaping the hair in a specific way or combing the hair, but at the same time it stretches the hair, combs it and conveys the maximum heat. It does not provide adequate performance to do. For example, a structure that simply has a pin or thorn-like protrusion can be combed through the hair and in some cases it can loosen the tangled hair, but because the pin is a poor conductor of heat, Hardly conveys heat.   The present invention seeks to provide a heated styling iron that straightens, combs, and achieves proper heat transfer to overcome the above disadvantages. These objects and others are achieved by the present invention.

  In accordance with the present invention, a heating styling iron having two opposed heating surfaces hinged to each other is provided with a series of fin-like projections on one flat heating surface to straighten, comb and properly adjust the hair. The protrusions are spaced from each other in a row in the length direction, and the relatively longer dimension of the fin-like protrusions is oriented so as to be substantially transverse to the length direction.   A heating flat iron 1 according to the present invention includes a first member 2 and a second member 3 that are coupled by a hinge 4. A power cord 5 extends from the hinge 4 to provide power from an external power source. The upper plate 6 is attached to the first member 2, and the lower plate 7 is attached to the second member 3. The upper plate 6 includes a groove 8 extending substantially in the length direction. The lower plate 7 comprises a set of raised protrusions 9, each protrusion 9 having a length L, a thickness T and a height H, where L is greater than T. The protrusions 9 are aligned in rows extending longitudinally along the lower plate 7 so that they can be aligned with the grooves 8. Each protrusion 9 is oriented so that its length L traverses a row extending in the length direction. The row of protrusions may be configured on a second plate that is fitted into the lower plate 7, or the protrusions may be formed integrally with the lower plate 7.

  The electric heating element is conventional and supplies heat to at least one of the plates 6 and 7. The operation buttons and dial are the same as in the prior art and are used to operate settings including heating settings. Various surfaces can be treated, coated, or constructed with ceramic, tourmaline, non-metal, and other materials. An ion generator and a far-infrared generator may be included. The iron 1 may be provided with ventilation holes for dry and wet use, may have a steam generator and a liquid container, and may be provided with a fan for blowing air.
