図5を参照するとまず初めにステップ50において図3(A)に示すマップから単位時間当り吸蔵されるNOX量NOXAが算出される。次いでステップ51ではこのNOXAがNOX吸蔵触媒12に吸蔵されているNOX量ΣNOXに加算される。次いでステップ52では吸蔵NOX量ΣNOXが許容値NXを越えたか否かが判別され、ΣNOX>NXとなったときにはステップ53に進んで燃料噴射量を増量することによりNOX吸蔵触媒12に流入する排気ガスの空燃比を一時的にリーンからリッチに切換えるリッチ処理が行われ、ΣNOXがクリアされる。

上表の呼称の欄に記載されているように気筒に示された数値が1.3,1.15,0.85,0.7であるとき、以下夫々強リッチ、弱リッチ、弱リーン、強リーンと称する。
図8を参照するとまず初めにステップ60においてNOX吸蔵触媒12の温度Tが第1の温度TX1よりも低いか否かが判別される。T<TX1のときにはステップ61に進んで図6の(I)に示されるリーン・リッチ気筒配列とされる。次いでステップ65に進んで昇温制御が完了したか否かが判別され、完了していないときにはステップ60に戻る。

Claims (7)
- 気筒が第1の気筒群と第2の気筒群に分割されており、第1の気筒群に対して共通の第1の排気通路内および第2の気筒群に対して共通の第2の排気通路内に夫々酸化機能を有する前段触媒が配置されており、第1の排気通路および第2の排気通路が夫々対応する前段触媒の下流において酸化機能を有する共通の後段触媒に連結されている内燃機関の排気浄化装置において、後段触媒を昇温すべきときには各気筒の中の一部の気筒の空燃比をリッチにすると共に一部の気筒の空燃比をリーンにしつついずれか一方の気筒群における平均空燃比をリッチにしかつ他方の気筒群における平均空燃比をリーンにし、前段触媒および後段触媒の双方における酸化反応熱により後段触媒を昇温させるようにした内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 全気筒の平均空燃比がほぼ理論空燃比とされる請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 後段触媒を昇温すべきときに後段触媒の温度が予め定められた第1の温度よりも低いときには第1の気筒群の中の一部の気筒の空燃比をリッチにすると共に一部の気筒の空燃比をリーンにしかつ第2の気筒群の中の一部の気筒の空燃比をリッチにすると共に一部の気筒の空燃比をリーンにして各前段触媒での酸化反応熱により後段触媒を昇温させ、後段触媒の温度が上記第1の温度よりも高くかつ予め定められた第2の温度よりも低いときに各気筒群の中の一部の気筒の空燃比をリッチにすると共に一部の気筒の空燃比をリーンにしつついずれか一方の気筒群における平均空燃比をリッチにしかつ他方の気筒群における平均空燃比をリーンにして前段触媒および後段触媒の双方における酸化反応熱により後段触媒を昇温させ、後段触媒の温度が上記第2の温度よりも高くなったときには第1の気筒群と第2の気筒群のうちのいずれか一方の気筒群の全気筒の空燃比をリッチにすると共に他方の気筒群の全気筒の空燃比をリーンにして後段触媒での酸化反応熱により後段触媒を昇温させるようにした請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 後段触媒の温度が上記第1の温度よりも低く前段触媒での酸化反応熱により後段触媒が昇温せしめられているときには各気筒群における平均空燃比が夫々ほぼ理論空燃比とされる請求項3に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 後段触媒の温度が上記第2の温度よりも高くなって後段触媒での酸化反応熱により後段触媒が昇温せしめられているときには全気筒の平均空燃比がほぼ理論空燃比とされる請求項3に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記前段触媒が三元触媒からなる請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記後段触媒は、流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリーンのときには排気ガス中に含まれるNO X を吸蔵し流入する排気ガスの空燃比が理論空燃比又はリッチになると吸蔵したNO X を放出するNO X 吸蔵触媒からなる請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
