Description
[第1の実施の形態]
拡散部11は、本発明における「拡散手段」の一具体例に対応するものである。
<第1の実施の形態の変形例>
この第1の変形例に係る照明装置1Aは、図1に示した照明装置1における拡散部11内の積層構造の順番を変えたものである。この照明装置1Aにおける拡散部11Aは、光源2側から順に、拡散度が固定の拡散板3と、拡散度可変素子4と、光学シート5とが光学部材として積層されている。この照明装置1Aは、拡散部11A内の光学部材の積層構造の順番が異なるのみで、全体としての光学的な作用・効果は図1に示した照明装置1と同じである。
図1に示した照明装置1では、拡散部11内に例えば高分子分散型液晶による拡散度可変素子4を有した構造とされていたが、この第2の変形例に係る照明装置1Bでは、拡散度可変素子4に代えて液体レンズ7を有する拡散部11Bを備えたものである。液体レンズ7は、拡散板3と光学シート5に対して例えば光源2側に離れて配置されている。液体レンズ7は、電気的にレンズ面の曲率半径を可変にしたものであり、例えば凸レンズ的なパワーが強くなるように曲率半径をR2からR1へと変化させることで、中央部への光の集光作用を強く変化させることができる。この場合にも、光源2の個数や駆動電流を増やすことなく、輝度分布を局所的に高くすることができる。
[第2の実施の形態]
拡散部62の分割数を縦a×横b=cとしたとき、
K=cの構成に限らず、K>cまたはK<cとする構成も可能である。
この表示装置は、光源部61の光源2(LED2R,2G,2B)の発光量(輝度)を検出する光センサ25と、光源部61(の光源2)を駆動するLED駆動部30と、拡散部62(の拡散度可変素子64)を駆動する拡散素子駆動部81と、入力映像信号Vinに対する信号処理および各部の制御を行う制御部40とを備えている。
プロファイルデータ記憶・切替部45は、本発明における「記憶手段」の一具体例に対応する。プロファイル合成部46は、本発明における「合成手段」の一具体例に対応する。画像処理部50およびパネル用逆γ回路44は、本発明における「補正手段」の一具体例に対応する。
[その他の実施の形態]
例えば、上記第2の実施の形態では、表示装置として液晶表示装置の例を示したが、本発明の照明装置は、液晶表示装置以外の表示装置にも適用可能である。また、本発明の照明装置は、表示装置のバックライト以外の目的で使用することも可能である。
Claims (3)
- 複数の光源が2次元的に配列されることにより形成された複数の部分発光領域を有し、前記部分発光領域ごとに独立した発光制御が可能とされた光源部と、
複数の部分拡散領域ごとに入射光に対する拡散度を可変に構成され、前記拡散度を変えることにより前記光源部から発せられた光の同一面内での輝度を前記部分拡散領域ごとに局部的に増加させる拡散手段と、
前記光源部から発せられた光を入力映像信号に基づいて変調する表示部と、
前記光源部において前記複数の部分発光領域のうち一部の部分発光領域における光源の輝度を変化させたときの輝度分布の変化を示す第1の輝度分布データと、前記拡散手段において前記複数の部分拡散領域のうち一部の部分拡散領域の拡散度を変化させたときの輝度分布の変化を示す第2の輝度分布データとを記憶する記憶手段と、
前記入力映像信号に応じて、前記記憶手段に記憶された前記第1の輝度分布データと前記第2の輝度分布データとを合成した合成データを求める合成手段と、
前記合成データに基づいて前記入力映像信号に対して輝度の補正を行い、前記表示部に表示させる映像を生成する補正手段と
を備え、
前記拡散手段は、複数の板状の光学部材を積層して構成され、
前記複数の光学部材のうち少なくとも1つが、拡散度を可変な拡散度可変素子とされ、 前記拡散度可変素子が、入射光に対する作用を散乱状態と透過状態とに切り替え可能な液晶素子を用いて構成されている
光源システム。 - 前記記憶手段は、
前記拡散手段における前記複数の部分拡散領域を一様な拡散度にすると共に、前記光源部において前記複数の部分発光領域のうち一部の部分発光領域における光源の輝度を変化させたときの輝度分布の変化を示すデータを前記第1の輝度分布データとして記憶し、
前記光源部における前記複数の部分発光領域を一様な発光状態にすると共に、前記拡散手段において前記複数の部分拡散領域のうち一部の部分拡散領域の拡散度を変化させたときの輝度分布の変化を示すデータを前記第2の輝度分布データとして記憶する
請求項1に記載の光源システム。 - 前記表示部における映像表示のためのフレーム書き換え駆動周波数と、前記光源部における前記発光制御のための前記光源の駆動周波数と、前記拡散手段における前記拡散度を変化させるための駆動周波数とがそれぞれ異なり、それら3つの駆動周波数が互いに視覚的なビートを生じないような周波数に設定されている
請求項1または2に記載の光源システム。
