Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 発明の分野 本発明は新規な吸収性物品に関し、特に生理用ナプキ
ン又は吸収シート等の衛生用品に関する。ここで「吸収
性物品」とは、身体からの排出物を吸収かつ収容する物
を意味し、より詳細には、装着者の身体に接触させるか
近接させて配置して、身体から排出される種々の排出物
を吸収かつ収容する物を意味する。
発明の背景 生理用ナプキンや紙おむつ等の吸収性物品には、排出
物が漏れるのを防止することの他に、身体に対する装着
感が良好で快適であることが要求される。
従来より、例えば、初期張力を付与した状態の弾性体
を生理用ナプキンの長手方向の縁部に配置した、湾曲形
状の生理用ナプキンが提案されている。生理用ナプキン
を弾性体により湾曲形状に形成すると、身体へのフィッ
ト性が高まり、装着感を向上できるだけでなく横漏れも
減少できる。このような生理用ナプキンは、米国特許第
4,668,230号、第4,701,177号及び第4,770,657号に開示
されている。
上記の米国特許に開示されている吸収性物品では、身
体と接触するシート表面の縁部に、弾性体が直接又は間
接的に接合されている。また、この縁部に配置した弾性
体と中央に位置する吸収性コアとを分断するシールが設
けられている。この従来の構成では、表面シートと弾性
体にシワをよせることにより、生理用ナプキン等の吸収
性物品に湾曲形状が付与している。
しかしながら、上記した従来の吸収性物品には、縁部
の表面シートに生じた深いシワが不快感を生み、湾曲形
状として吸収性物品の使用時の快適性を損なうという問
題がある。特に表面シートがプラスチック材料であると
きには、この問題が顕著である。したがって、このよう
な生理用ナプキンは完全には満足できるものではなく、
生理用ナプキンや他の吸収性物品によるフィット性、快
適性及び保持性の向上の必要性が残されている。
本発明の目的は、使用時の身体へのフィット性を高
め、快適性を向上させ横漏れを減少させることのできる
吸収性物品を提供することである。
発明の概要 本発明によれば、装着者に対向し身体に接触する液体
透過性トップシートと、衣類に対向する液体不透過性バ
ックシートと、それらの間に設けた人体から排出される
液体を吸収するための液体吸収パッドとを含んでなる吸
収性物品であって、前記吸収パッドの各側縁部付近に弾
性化サイドフラップを備えてなり、前記サイドフラップ
が、 −吸収パッドの側縁部の方向に配置した開口部を有する
ベース端部と、遠位端部と、衣類対向部と、装着者対向
部とを有するループ部材と、 −ベース端開口部を介してループ部材に延びており、遠
位端部とベース端部とを有する挿入部材と、 −挿入部材のベース端部外側で挿入部材の長さの一部分
に沿って固着されているが、ループ部材には固着されて
いない弾性体と、 −ループ部材の衣類対向部と装着者対向部のベース端部
に挿入部材を取り付けているシールとを含んでなる吸収
性物品が提供される。

発明の具体的説明 第１図に示すように、吸収性物品１は、端縁部が各々
弧状５のことがあるが、通常全体として実質的に長方形
をしている。吸収部材４は、一般的にバックシートより
も小さく、両端縁部がバックシート３の弧状部５に合わ
せて形成した弧状であるが実質的に長方形をしており、
そして吸収パッド４の両縦側部７は中央部がわずかに狭
くなるように内側に湾曲している。
第２図は、吸収パッド４の縦側部７′と弾性化サイド
フラップ20のヒートシール10′が直線状に形成されてい
る一実施態様である。
吸収性物品１は、縦中心線と横断中心線の２つの中心
線を有している。本明細書で使用される用語「縦」と
は、吸収性物品１を装着したときに立っている状態の装
着者の身体を右半分と左半分に二分する鉛直線とほぼな
らぶものである（例えば、概略平行である）吸収性物品
１の面における線、軸又は方向を意味する。また、本明
細書で使用される用語「横断」又は「横」は、同意に使
用でき、縦方向に対して概略垂直である吸収性物品１の
面内ある線、軸又は方向を意味する。
トップシートは、吸収パッドの装着者対向面を完全に
覆うように概略位置合わせをする。好ましくは、トップ
シートは、吸収パッドの周囲を超えて延びているか、吸
収パッドの横縁部をすっぽりと包みこんでおり、吸収パ
ッドを包囲してバックシートに固定されている。
本発明による吸収性物品１の一実施態様を、第３図に
示す。吸収性物品１は、液体透過性トップシート２と、
液体不透過性バックシート３と、それらの間に位置し一
対の側縁部７を有する、人体から排出される液体を吸収
するための液体吸収パッド４とを含んでなる吸収性物品
であって、吸収パッドの各側縁部７付近に弾性化サイド
フラップ20を含んでなり、前記サイドフラップ20が、 −吸収パッドの側縁部７から延びて環状にそこに戻る、
トップシート２とバックシート３から選択される層から
形成されたループ部材21であって、該ループ部材21は吸
収パッドの側縁部７に近接した開口部23を有するベース
端部22と、遠位端部24と、衣類対向部25と、装着者対向
部26とを有しており、 −吸収パッドの側縁部７から延びた、バックシートとト
ップシートから選択される層から形成された挿入部材30
であって、該挿入部材30はベース端開口部23を介してル
ープ部材21に挿入されており、かつ遠位端部31とベース
端部32とを有しており、 −挿入部材32のベース端部22の反対側で挿入部材30の長
さの一部分に沿って固着されているがループ部材21には
固着されていない弾性体40と、そして −ループ部材21の衣類対向部25と装着者対向部26のベー
ス端部22に挿入部材30を取り付けているシール10とを含
んでなることを特徴としている。
弾性化サイドフラップ 弾性化サイドフラップ20は、各縦側縁部の少なくとも
中央部付近に、通常物品の横中心線について対称に配置
されている。サイドフラップ20は、物品の縦側縁部の実
質的に全長に延びることができるが、物品の縦側部の長
さに対して典型的には25〜100％、好ましくは40〜60％
の長さを有する。弾性化サイドフラップは、ループ部材
と、挿入部材と、弾性体と、シールとを含んでなる。
a.ループ部材 ループ部材21は、トップシート２かバックシート３か
ら形成することができる。好ましくは、ループ部材21
は、皮膚に適合するトップシート２から形成される。ル
ープ部材21をトップシート２から形成するときには、バ
ックシート３は挿入部材30の役割を果たす。ループ部材
21は、層、この場合にはトップシート２を吸収パッドの
縁部７を越えて延ばし、縁位端部24で吸収性コアの縁部
の方向に内側に折り返すことにより形成される。「内
側」に折り返すとは、吸収性コアのｚ方向（即ち、高
さ）中央を通って通過するｘ−ｙ方向（即ち、長さ及び
幅）に向いた平面の方向に折り返すことを意味する。ト
ップシート（装着者に対向する層）がループ部材層であ
るときには、トップシートを衣類に対向する方向に内側
に折り返し；バックシート（衣類に対向する層）がルー
プ部材層であるときには、バックシートを装着者に対向
する方向に内側に折り返す。第３図に示すように、トッ
プシート２がループ部材21を形成するとき、トップシー
ト２が連続して延びて吸収性物品のバックシート側を覆
うようにすることができる。ループ部材のベース端部22
は、側縁部７に近接しており、そして開口部23を有して
いる。この開口部23を介して挿入部材30をループ部材21
の内部に挿入できる。ループ部材21の幅（ベース端部22
から遠位端部24まで）は、一般的に10〜25mm、好ましく
は約15〜20mmである。ベース端部22は、吸収パッドの縁
部７の外側に配置するが、一般的には縁部７に対して20
mm以下の外側、好ましくは5mm以下の外側に配置する。
最も好ましくは、ベース端部22を、サイドフラップの全
長に沿ってできるだけ吸収パッド縁部７に近接して配置
する。
b.挿入部材 挿入部材30は、バックシート３か、バックシートがル
ープ部材を形成するときにはトップシート２を、吸収パ
ッド４の縁部７を越えて開口部23を介しループ部材21内
に延ばすことにより形成できる。また、挿入部材30は、
開口部23を介してループ部材21内に延びる別個の層であ
ってもよい。挿入部材の遠位端部31は、ループ部材の遠
位端部24まで延びることができる。また、挿入部材の遠
位端部31は、ループ部材21の内部で折り返すかカールす
ることもできる。好ましくは、ループ部材のベース端部
22を越えて延びている挿入部材30の部分の有効長さは、
少なくとも5mm、より好ましくは約10〜15mmである。挿
入部材30の遠位端部31は、ループ部材から離れておりル
ープ部材21の少なくともその中央部には取り付けられて
いないことを意図している。
また、トップシート又はバックシートは、ループ部材
と挿入部材の両方の役割を果たすこともできる。第3a図
に示すように、トップシート２は、上記したようなルー
プ部材21を形成し、その後吸収パッドの縁部７かその付
近に位置する折り目部55で再び内側に折り返される。そ
の後、このトップシートの残りの端部は、ループ部材に
挿入される。この実施態様においては、バックシートの
縁部は、サイドシール10まで延び、サイドシールにより
固定することができ、必要応じて挿入部材としてループ
部材に挿入できる。逆に、第3b図に示すように、装着者
の皮膚には適合しないが、バックシートでループ部材と
挿入部材の両方を形成できる。このような場合、シール
10は、折り返したバックシート３の遠位端部24と折り目
部55との間でなされる。
c.弾性部材 弾性体40は、弾性化サイドフラップに弾性を付与す
る。弾性体40は、挿入部材30のベース端部32とは反対側
の部分の長さの少なくとも一部分に沿って固着されてい
る。一般的に、弾性体40は、挿入部材30に対して手段41
（図示していない）により固着する前に予備延伸され
る。弾性体を予備延伸状態に保持するのに使用された力
を解放すると、弾性体は収縮し挿入部材にしわをよせ
る。シール10は、挿入部材30をループ部材21のベース端
部32に固定し，弾性体40が完全に緩和した位置まで完全
に収縮するのを防止する。好ましくは、弾性体40を、挿
入部材30の長さの少なくとも25％、より好ましくは挿入
部材の長さの40〜60％に沿って固着する。弾性体40は、
ループ部材21には取り付けない。弾性体部材40の収縮の
結果、又は弾性体40自体のために挿入部材30に形成され
る剛さ又はしわは、ループ部材21層により装着者の皮膚
からは離れるので、快適さや皮膚とのフィット性が損な
われることはない。弾性体は装着者の皮膚とは直接接触
しないので、広範な材料及び弾性条件を使用できる。弾
性体40は、LYCRA等の合成又は天然ゴム、弾性スクリ
ム、弾性フィルム（熱収縮性弾性フィルムを含む）、弾
性織若しくは不織ウエブ、弾性不織積層物等の弾性複合
体、合成若しくは天然ゴム発泡体等を含む材料から作成
した弾性ストリング、ストランド又はフィルムであるこ
とができる。好ましい弾性ストリングは、Rhode Islan
dにあるFulflex社製で9411の名称で市販されている天然
ゴムである。弾性体は、装着者の皮膚に対して顕著な悪
影響なしにサイドフラップ20に所望の形状のしわをよせ
たりコントラストをつけたりするのに適当な長さに予備
延伸できる。一般的に、約５〜100％（最初の緩和長の1
05〜200％）、より好ましくは約10〜約30％予備延伸で
きる。弾性体は、機械的接着又は接着剤による接着等の
固着手段41を用いて挿入部材に固着できる。機械接合に
は、挿入部材を弾性体に接着できる加圧接着又は熱接着
が含まれる。より好ましくは、接着剤が使用される。好
ましい接着剤は、ウイスコンシン州Elm GroveにあるFi
ndley Adhesives社によりFindley Adhesive E2085又
はH2119の商品名で市販されているホットメルト接着剤
である。挿入部材30を、弾性体40の周囲に折り返すかカ
ールして、取り付けを向上させることができる。また、
特に弾性体40が延伸性フィルムのときには、弾性体40を
挿入部材30の遠位端部31に巻き付けることができる。弾
性体40は、挿入部材のベース端部32から少なくとも約5m
m、より好ましくはベース端部から約10〜15mmのところ
に固着することが好ましい。弾性体40アタッチメントを
挿入部材のベース端部32から離して配置すると、弾性体
がてこ作用で収縮して、挿入部材の遠位端部にしわを寄
せるとともに、吸収性物品の端部を上方向に引っ張って
この物品を装着者の形状に一致させ、そして弾性化サイ
ドフラップが上方向に立ち装着者のまた部を押しつける
ことにより、フィット性と漏れの防止性をよりよくする
ことができる。
d.シール サイドフラップ20のシール10は、ループ部材21のベー
ス端部22に沿ってなされている。シール10は、連続して
いても断続的でもよく、また直線状でも曲線状でもよ
い。好ましくは、曲線状シールは、吸収パッドの方向に
内側に湾曲しているものであり、好ましくは30゜の曲率
で湾曲しているのがよい。好ましくは、シール（及びル
ープ部材のベース端部）は、吸収パッドの側縁部７の形
状と一致する。シールの長さは、一般的に少なくとも弾
性部材と同じ長さであり；好ましくは、弾性部材よりも
長い。本発明の典型的な生理用ナプキンにおいて、シー
ルは長さ約50〜280mm、より好ましくは約100〜160mmで
ある。シールは、挿入部材30を固定する役割を果たし、
弾性部材40が吸収パッドの長手方向端部を引っ張り上げ
る。シール10も吸収パッド４の側部からの漏れを防ぐの
に役立つ。シール10は、機械的エネルギーシールでも接
着剤によるシールでもよい。シールは、ループ部材21の
衣類対向部25と装着者対向部26とを挿入部材30にそれぞ
れのベース端部で一緒に結合するのに十分でなければな
らない。機械的エネルギーシールが好ましい。ここで
「機械的エネルギー」には、ヒートシールに用いられる
ような熱エネルギーも含まれる。このような機械的エネ
ルギーは、上記目的について周知の超音波装置又はピン
チローラの形態で加えることが好ましい。好ましい機械
的シールは、ループ部材21の可塑性材料を挿入部材30の
可塑性材料に結合する加圧結合シールである。サイドフ
ラップをシールするのに適当な一つの方法では、組立物
品を、シール部に約1500〜500kg/cm2の圧力を加える回
転アンビルロールと回転加圧ロールとの間を通過させ
て、一般的に0.5〜6mm、より好ましくは２〜4mmの幅に
シールを形成する。好ましくは、約80℃未満の温度を使
用する。アンビルと加圧ロールを周囲温度で操作するこ
とが最も好ましい。層を構成する材料が処理温度で損傷
したり弱体化するのを避けるために、層の熱可塑性溶融
温度より十分低ければより高い温度を使用することがで
きる。シール40を形成するのに好ましい別の方法は、回
転アンビル／又は回転加圧ロールを弾性パネルとシャシ
の熱可塑性材料の溶融温度以上で加熱し、アタッチメン
トラインの部分における不織布層が過度に損傷及び弱体
化するのを避けるためにかなり低い圧力をかけることに
よりなされる加熱シールである。また、シールは、接着
剤又は化学的シールを用いてループ部材21と装着者30を
一緒に結合することによっても行うことことができる。
第二不織布 本発明の別の好ましい生理用ナプキンは、さらにトッ
プシート２と第二トップシートとしての吸収部材４との
間に第二不織布15を備えている。第二不織布の横端部
は、吸収パッドの横縁部７を越えて延びることができ、
そしてループ部材21又は挿入部材30としての役割を果た
すことができる。この生理用ナプキンでは、トップシー
ト２、バックシート３又は第二不織布シート15はループ
部材21層であってもよいし、これらの層の組み合わせが
ループ部材を形成してもよい。好ましくは、ループ部材
21を形成するのに使用しない層は挿入部材30として使用
する。第４図において、ループ部材21はトップシート２
により形成され、挿入部材30は第二不織布15及びバック
シート３により形成されている。弾性体40が、両方の挿
入部材取り付けられている。また、バックシート３のみ
又は第二不織布15のみを、挿入部材30として使用しても
よい。第4a図において、ループ部材は、第二不織布15に
より形成されており、そしてバックシートは、挿入部材
30を形成するように延びている。トップシート２は、サ
イドシール10により側縁部に沿って固定される。また、
第4b図に示すように、トップシートの側縁部は、サイド
シールを越えてループ部材21を少なくとも部分的に覆う
ことができる。
別の実施態様では、ループ部材をバックシート３によ
り形成し、第二不織布を延ばして挿入部材を形成するこ
とができる。前記の実施態様と同様に、トップシート２
をサイドシール10により側縁部に沿って延び及び固定し
てもよいし、さらにサイドシール10を越えて延ばしてル
ープ部材の装着者対向部26の一部分を覆うようにしても
よい。また、代わりに、トップシートを第二挿入部材と
してループ部材に挿入することもできる。
本発明による別の生理用ナプキンでは、吸収性物品１
は中央部と中央部の各横側に側部を有するトップシート
２と、前記トップシートの各側部に沿った装着者対向表
面上に配置した外不織布11とを有してなる。外不織布11
は、好ましくは機械的シール（加圧又は熱シール）を用
いて、連続的又は離散的に、トップシート層に結合して
その縁部がロールしたり裂けたりしないようにすること
ができる。外不織布11は、好ましくはサイドフラップの
ループ部材21を形成するソフトで、快適性がよく、皮膚
とのフィット性がよい不織布が好ましい。この生理用ナ
プキンにおいては、トップシート２、バックシート３若
しくは外不織布11又はこれらの組み合わせにより、ルー
プ部材21層を形成することができる。第５図に示すよう
に、外不織布11も、トップシート２下に環状に戻って第
二不織布15を形成する。トップシート２は、挿入部材30
を形成する。バックシートは、吸収パッドの縁部を越え
て延び、シール10によりループ部材の衣類対向表面25に
固定される。第5a図に示す別の好ましい生理用ナプキン
では、外不織布11は、ループ部材21を形成し、バックシ
ートの衣類対向表面の一部分を覆うように延ばすことが
できる。第5a図において、バックシート３とトップシー
ト２が挿入部材30を形成するか、バックシート３とトッ
プシート２単独で挿入部材30を形成する。
第６図において、挿入部材30は、トップシート、バッ
クシート又は吸収パッドの側縁部７から延びることがで
きる他の層とは別個の層である。この実施態様では、弾
性部材は、挿入部材、好ましくは挿入部材のベース端部
32とは反対側に配置する弾性部材と一体に形成できる。
外不織布11又は第二不織布15を使用してループ部材を
形成すると、典型的により高価な部材であるトップシー
トの量を減少し、したがって、製造コストを減少する。
不織布の別の利点は、快適性と皮膚とのフィット性が向
上することである。
第二不織布シート15と外不織シート11は、快適性と皮
膚の感触の面から不織布を含んでなることが好ましい。
不織ウエブは、天然繊維（例えば、木繊維又は綿繊
維）、合成繊維（例えば、ポリエステル又はポリプロピ
レン繊維）又は天然繊維と合成繊維との組み合わせから
作製できる。好ましくは、不織布は、親水性又は表面処
理疎水性材料から作製する。好ましい不織布は、フクム
ラ製紙株式会社製の通気性不織布である。この不織布
は、約２デニールのポリエチレン（PE）繊維約50％（w/
w）とポリプロピレン（PP）繊維約50％（w/w）からな
り、繊維が、ポリプロピレンからなるコアとコアを包囲
しているポリエチレンからなる外装を有している第一層
と、第２デニールのポリエチレン（PE）繊維50％（w/
w）とポリエステル（PET）繊維約50％（w/w）からな
り、繊維が、ポリエステルからなるコアとコアを包囲し
ているポリエチレンからなる外装を有している第二層と
を含んでなる。第一層及び第二層で使用される上記繊維
は、当該技術分野では「バイコンポーネント繊維（bi−
component fiber）」として知られている。このシート
は、どちらの層を装着者に対向させてもよい。
吸収パッド 吸収パッド４は、液体（例えば、月経及び／又は尿）
を吸収又は保持できるいずれかの吸収手段である。上記
で説明したように、吸収性コア４は、多種多様なサイズ
及び形状（例えば、長方形、楕円形、鼓形、犬用骨、非
対称形）に、吸収性ナプキンや一般的にエアフェルトと
称されている粉砕木パルプ等の他の吸収性物品に一般的
に使用されている多種多様な液体吸収性材料から製造で
きる。他の適当な吸収性材料としては、例えば、クレー
プセルロースワッディング；コフォームを含むメルトブ
ローンポリマー；化学的補強、改質又は架橋セルロース
系繊維；クリンプポリエステル繊維等の合成繊維；ピー
トマス；ティシューラップ及びティシューラミネートを
含むティシュー；吸収性発泡体；吸収性スポンジ；超吸
収性ポリマー；吸収性ゲル材料；又はいずれかの同等材
料若しくは材料の組み合わせ又はそれらの混合物が挙げ
られる。吸収性コアの形状及び構成も、異なることがで
きる（例えば、吸収性コアは、異なるキャリパゾーン
（例えば、中央部がより厚くなるようにする）、親水性
勾配、超吸収性勾配又はより低密度及びより低い平均目
付捕獲ゾーンを有したり、一種以上の層又は構造を含ん
でなることができる）。しかしながら、吸収性コアの総
吸収能は、吸収性物品の設計負荷と意図する用途に適合
しなければならない。さらに、吸収性コアのサイズと吸
収能は、失禁パッド、パンチリナー、通常の生理用ナプ
キン又は夜用生理ナプキン等の異なる用途に適応するよ
うに異なることができる。
本発明の吸収性コアとして使用するのに典型的な吸収
性構造は、1990年８月21日発行のOsbornによる米国特許
第4,950,264号（発明の名称：薄可とう性生理用ナプキ
ン（Thin,Flexible Sanitary Naplin）;1986年９月９
日発行のWeisman等による米国特許第4,610,678号（発明
の名称：高密度吸収性構造体（High−Density Absorbe
nt Structures））;1989年５月30日発行のAlemany等に
よる米国特許第4,834,735号（発明の名称：低密度・低
目付量捕獲ゾーンを有する高密度吸収性部材（High De
nsity Absorbent Members Having Lower Density
and Lower Basis Weight Acquisition Zone
s））；及び1986年10月22日公開のヨーロッパ特許出願
第０ 198 683号（出願人：ザ・プロクター・アンド・
ギャンブル社、発明者:Duenk等）に記載されている。こ
れらの特許に開示されている内容は、引用することによ
り本明細書の開示の一部とする。
本発明による好ましい生理用ナプキンにおいて、捕獲
層は、トップシートと吸収性コアとの間に配置できる。
捕獲層は、吸収性コアへの排出物のウイッキング（wick
ing）の向上を含むいくつかの機能を果たすことができ
る。排出物のウイッキングの向上が重要であることに
は、吸収性コア全体にわたって排出物を均一に分布させ
ること及び生理用ナプキン１を比較的薄くできることを
含むいくつかの理由がある。ここで、ウイッキングは、
液体を一方向、二方向又は全方向（即ち、ｘ−ｙ方向及
び／又はｚ方向）に輸送することを含む。捕獲層は、ポ
リエステル、ポリプロピレン若しくはポリエチレンを含
む合成繊維；線若しくはセルロースを含む天然繊維；上
記繊維の混紡；又はいずれかの同等の材料若しくはそれ
らの材料の組み合わせの不織又は織ウエブを含む数種の
異なる材料を含んでなることができる。捕獲層とトップ
シートを有する生理用ナプキンの例が、Osbornによる米
国特許第4,950,264号及び米国特許出願第07/810,774号
（発明者:Cree等、出願日:1991年12月17日、発明の名
称：融着層を有する吸収性物品（Absorbent Article
Having Fused Layers））により詳細に記載されてい
る。これらの各々に開示されている内容は、引用するこ
とにより本明細書の開示の一部とする。好ましい実施態
様では、捕獲層は、ウエブを互いに接合するための通常
の手段のいずれか、最も好ましくは上記したクリーの出
願により詳細に記載されている融着によりトップシート
と接合できる。
本発明による別の好ましい生理用ナプキンでは、ウイ
ッキング又は流体分布ストリップ（図示してない）を、
トップシートと吸収性コアの間に配置することができ
る。ウイッチングストリップにより、体液が吸収性コア
の縦長内又は縦長に沿って浸透又は拡散する。好ましい
ウイッキングストリップは、メルトブローン又はスパン
ボンド不織布であり、吸収性物品の縦方向の流体分布を
高める。特に好ましいウイッキッングストリップは、19
91年11月11日出願の同時継続日本国特許出願第294665/1
991号（出願人：プロクター・アンド・ギャンブル・フ
ァー・イースト社）に記載されているように、不織布ウ
イッキングストリップに一連の長手方向に整列したエン
ボスメント若しくはコンプレスメント又はそれらの両方
を含んでなる。
吸収性物品１の縦端縁部５は、典型的には、トップシ
ート２とバックシート３、さらには追加の不織布層15
を、適当なシール８、好ましくはヒートシールを用い
て、互いに接合することにより形成される。
バックシート３及びトップシート２並びに適用可能な
いずれかの追加の不織布層15を、当該技術分野において
周知のようなアタッチメント手段（図示してない）によ
り吸収性コア４に固定できる。例えば、バックシート３
及び／又はトップシート２は、接着剤の均一な連続層、
接着剤のパターン層又は接着剤の別個のライン、スパイ
ラル又はスポットを整列したものにより互いに結合でき
る。満足できる結果が得られることが判明した接着剤
は、ミネソタ州St.PoulにあるH.B.Fuller社製の商品名H
L−1258又はＨ−2031である。アタッチメント手段は、
好ましくは、1986年３月４日発行のMinetola等による米
国特許第4,573,986号（発明の名称：使い捨て廃物格納
衣類（Disposable Waste−Containment Garement））
に開示されているような接着剤フィラメントの開放パタ
ーン網状結合を含んでなる。この特許に開示されている
内容は、引用することにより本明細書の開示の一部とす
る。典型的な接着剤フィラメントの開放パターン網状結
合のアタッチメント手段は、1975年10月７日発行のSpra
gue,Jrによる米国特許第3,911,173号;1978年11月22日発
行のZieker等による米国特許第4,785,996号；及び1989
年６月27日発行のWereniczによる米国特許第4,842,666
号に示されている装置及び方法によるような数本の接着
剤フィラメントをスパイラルパターンに渦巻いたものを
含んでなる。これらの特許に開示されている内容は、引
用することにより本明細書の開示の一部とする。また、
アタッチメント手段は、当該技術分野において周知な熱
接着、圧着、超音波接着、動的機械接着若しくはいずれ
かの他のアタッチメント手段又はこれらのアタッチメン
ト手段の組み合わせを含んでなることができる。
トップシート トップシート２は、フィット性がよく、感触がソフト
で、装着者の皮膚に対して非刺激性のものである。さら
に、トップシート２は、液体（例えば、月経及び／又は
尿）がトップシートの厚さを通って容易に通過できる液
体透過性である。適当なトップシート２は、織布又は不
織布；開口成形熱可塑性フィルム、開口プラスチックフ
ィルム及び油圧成形熱可塑性フィルム等の高分子材料；
多孔性発泡体；網状発泡体；網状熱可塑性フィルム；並
びに熱可塑性スクリム等の広範な材料から製造できる。
適当な織布又は不織布は、天然繊維（例えば、木繊維又
は綿繊維）、合成繊維（例えば、ポリエステル、ポリプ
ロピレン又はポリエチレン繊維等の高分子繊維）又は天
然及び合成繊維の組み合わせを含んでなることができ
る。好ましいトップシートは、開口成形フィルムを含ん
でなる。トップシートには、開口成形フィルムが好まし
い。それは、開口成形フィルムが身体からの排出物を透
過し、しかも非吸収性であり、液体を逆流して装着者の
皮膚をぬらす傾向が少ないからである。したがって、身
体と接触している成形フィルムの表面はさらさらしたま
まであり、それにより、身体を汚す傾向を減少し、装着
者に対してより快適な感触を提供する。成形フィルムの
適当なものは、1975年12月30日発行のThompsonによる米
国特許第3,929,135号（傾斜キャピラリーを有する吸収
性構造体）（Absorptive Structure Having Tapered
Capillaries））;1982年４月13日発行のMullane等に
よる米国特許第4,324,264号（発明の名称：耐汚れ性ト
ップシートを有する使い捨て吸収性物品（Disposable
Absorbent Article Having Ａ Stain Reaistant
Topsheet））;1982年８月３日発行のRadel等による米国
特許第4,342,314号（発明の名称：繊維様特性を示す耐
性プラスチックウエブ（Resilient Plastic Web Exh
ibiting Fiber−Like Properties））;1984年７月31
日発行のAhr等による米国特許第4,463,045号（発明の名
称；非光沢視表面及び布様触質しぼの巨視的延伸三次元
プラスチックウエブ（Macroscopically Expanded Thr
ee−Dimensional Plastic Web Exhibiting Non−Gl
ossy Visible Surface and Cloth−Like Tactile
Impression））；及び1991年４月９日発行のBairdに
よる米国特許第5,006,394号（発明の名称：多層高分子
フィルム（Multilayer Polymeric Film））に記載さ
れている。これらの各特許に開示されている内容は、引
用することにより本明細書の開示の一部とする。本発明
の好ましいトップシートは、上記の特許の一つ以上に記
載されており、「DRI−WEAVE」としてオハイオ州Cincin
natiにあるプロクター・アンド・ギャンブル社により生
理用ナプキンに使用されて市販されている成形フィルム
である。
本発明の好ましい実施態様では、成形フィルムトップ
シートの体表面を、体表面が親水性でない場合よりも、
液体がトップシートをより早く輸送するのに役立つよう
に親水性として、月経時の流体が吸収性コアに流入及び
吸収されるよりもむしろトップシートを流れる可能性を
減少するようにしている。好ましい実施態様では、Aziz
等による1991年11月19日出願の米国特許出願第07/794,7
45号（発明の名称：不織及び開口フィルムカバーシート
を有する吸収性物品（Absorbetn Article Having Ａ
Nonwoven and Apertured Film Coversheet））に
記載されているような成形フィルムトップシートの高分
子材料に界面活性剤を含有させる。ここに開示されてい
る内容は、引用することにより本明細書の開示一部とす
る。また、トップシートの体表面は、上記したOsbornに
よる米国特許第4,950,254号に記載されているような界
面活性剤でトップシートを処理することにより親水性に
することができる。ここに開示されている内容は、引用
することにより本明細書の開示の一部とする。
バックシート バックシート３は、液体（例えば、月経及び／又は
尿）不透過性であり、薄プラスチックフィルムから製造
するのが好ましいが、他の可とう性液体不透過性材料も
使用できる。ここで、「可とう性」とは、フィット性が
よく、人体の一般的形状及び外形に容易に一致する材料
を意味する。バックシート３は、吸収性コア４に吸収さ
れ含有される排出物がパンツ、パジャマ及び下着等の生
理用ナプキンに接触する物品を漏らすことを防止する。
したがって、バックシート３は、織布若しくは不織布、
ポリエチレン若しくはポリプロピレンの熱可塑性フィル
ム等の高分子フィルム又はフィルム塗工不織布等の複合
材料を含んでなることができる。好ましくは、バックシ
ートは、厚さ約0.012mm（0.5ミル）〜約0.051mm（2.0ミ
ル）のポリエチレンフィルムである。典型的なポリエチ
レンフィルムは、オハイオ州CincinnatieにあるClopay
Corporationより商品名P18−0401及びインディアナ州
Terre HauteにあるEthyl CorporationのVisqueen Di
visionから商品名XP−39385で製造されている。バック
シートは、外観をより布様にするために型押し及び／又
は艶消しすることが好ましい。さらに、バックシート３
は、排出物がバックシート３を通過するのを防止しなが
ら蒸気が吸収性コア４（即ち、通気性）から流出できる
（即ち、通気性である）。
使用に際して、生理用ナプキン１は、このような目的
において周知のいずれかの支持手段又はアタッチメント
手段（図示してない）により所定に位置に保持できる。
好ましくは、生理用ナプキンは、使用者の下着又はパン
ティに配置し、接着剤13等のファスナーによりそこに固
定される。接着剤13は、生理用ナプキンをパンティのま
た部に固定するための手段を提供する。したがって、吸
収性物品１の衣類対向面の一部分又は全面に、接着剤を
塗布する。このような目的で当該技術分野において使用
されているいずれの接着剤又はのりも、本発明で接着剤
に使用できるが、感圧接着剤が好ましい。接着剤の適当
なものは、オハイオ州ColumbusにあるCentury Adhesiv
es Corporation製のCenturyA−305−IV;及びニュージ
ャージー州BridgewaterにあるNational Starch and
Chemical Company製のInstant Lock34−2823である。
適当な接着剤ファスナーは、米国特許第4,917,697号に
も記載されている。生理用ナプキンを使用に際して配置
する前に、接着剤が乾燥したり使用前にパンティのまた
部以外の表面に付着しないようにするために、感圧接着
剤を典型的には取り外し可能な剥離ライナー14で覆って
おく。適当な剥離ライナーも、上記した米国特許第4,91
7,697号に記載されている。一般的にこのような目的に
一般的に使用されているいずれの市販の剥離ライナー
も、本発明に使用できる。適当な剥離ライナーの例とし
て、ウイスコン州MenashaにあるAkrosil Corporation
製であるBL30MG−ASiloxE1/10及びBL30MG−Asilox4P/O
が挙げられるが、これらのみには限定されない。本発明
の生理用ナプキン１は、剥離ライナーを取り除いた後、
生理用ナプキンを接着剤がパンティに接触するようにパ
ンティに配置することにより使用される。接着剤13は、
使用中にパンティ内の所定の位置に生理用ナプキンを維
持するのに役立つ。
上記の説明から明らかなように、本発明によれば、直
立し物品が湾曲形状を形成するのに役立つループ部材を
含んでなることにより、フィット性、快適性を向上し、
横漏れを減少する生理用ナプキンが提供される。弾性体
を挿入部材にとりつけるが、ループ部材には直接には取
り付けない。弾性部材の収縮の結果又は弾性部材自体の
ために挿入部材に形成される剛さ又はしわは、ループ部
材層により装着者の皮膚からは離れるので、快適さや皮
膚とのフィット性が損なわれることはない。弾性体は装
着者の皮膚とは直接接触しないので、広範な材料及び弾
性条件を使用できる。
本発明を特定の実施態様により説明したが、当業者に
は、他の変更及び修正を本発明の精神及び範囲を逸脱す
ることなく行うことができることが明らかであろう。し
たがって、添付の請求の範囲は、本発明の範囲内である
全てのこのような変更及び修正を包含するものである。

  1. 【請求項１】液体透過性トップシートと、液体不透過性
    バックシートと、それらの間に設けられた、人体から排
    出される液体を吸収するためのもので一対の側縁部を有
    する液体吸収パッドとを含んでなる吸収性物品であっ
    て、前記吸収パッドの各側縁部付近に弾性化サイドフラ
    ップを備えてなり、前記サイドフラップが、 −前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部から延びて環状に前記側
    縁部に戻るループ部材であって、該ループ部材は前記吸
    収パッドの前記側縁部に近接したベース端部およびベー
    ス端開口部と、遠位端部と、衣類対向部と、装着者対向
    部とを有し、 −前記ベース端開口部を介して前記ループ部材内に延び
    た、前記ベース端開口部に隣接して遠位端とベース端部
    を有する挿入部材と、 −前記挿入部材の前記ベース端部以外で前記挿入部材の
    長さの一部分に沿って前記挿入部材に固着されている
    が、前記ループ部材には固着されていない弾性体と、そ
    して −前記ループ部材の衣類対向部と装着者対向部のベース

    から延びて環状に該側縁部に戻り、かつトップシートお

    り、前記挿入部材が前記吸収パッドの側縁部から延びて
    おり、かつトップシートとバックシートから選択される
    挿入層から形成されてなる、請求項１に記載の吸収性物
    品。
  3. 【請求項３】装着者に対向し身体に接触する液体透過性
    トップシートと、衣類に対向する液体不透過性バックシ
    ートと、それらの間に設けた人体から排出される液体を
    吸収するためのものでありかつ一対の側縁部を有する液
    体吸収パッドと、前記トップシートと前記吸収パッドと
    の間に位置する第二不織布とを含んでなる吸収性物品で
    あって、前記吸収パッドの各側縁部付近に弾性化サイド
    フラップを備えてなり、前記サイドフラップが、 −前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部から延びて環状に該側縁
    部に戻り、かつ前記トップシート、前記バックシート、
    前記第二不織布及びそれらの組み合わせから選択される
    層から形成されてなるループ部材であって、該ループ部
    材は前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部に近接したベース端部
    およびベース端開口部と、遠位端部と、衣類対向部と、
    装着者対向部とを有し、 −前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部から延びた、前記バック
    シート、前記トップシート、前記第二不織布及びそれら
    の組み合わせから選択される挿入層から形成されている
    挿入部材であって、該挿入部材は前記ベース端開口部を
    介して前記ループ部材内に挿入されており、前記ベース
    端開口部に隣接して遠位端部とベース端部を有し、 −前記挿入部材の前記ベース端部以外で前記挿入部材の
    長さの一部分に沿って前記挿入部材に固着されている
    が、前記ループ部材には固着されていない弾性体と、 −前記ループ部材の衣類対向部と装着者対向部のベース

  4. 【請求項４】液体不透過性バックシートと、人体から排
    出される液体を吸収するためのものでありかつ一対の側
    縁部を有する液体吸収パッドと、中央部と前記中央部の
    各横側の側部とを有する液体透過性トップシートと、前
    記トップシートの各側部に沿って位置する外側不織布と
    を順次含んでなる吸収性物品であって、前記吸収パッド
    の各側縁部付近に弾性化サイドフラップを備えてなり、
    前記サイドフラップが、 −前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部から延びて環状に該側縁
    部に戻り、かつ前記トップシート、前記バックシート、
    前記外不織シート及びそれらの組み合わせから選択され
    る層から形成されてなるループ部材であって、該ループ
    部材は前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部に近接したベース端
    部およびベース端開口部と、遠位端部と、衣類対向部
    と、装着者対向部とを有し、 −前記吸収パッドの前記側縁部から延びた、前記バック
    シート、前記トップシート、前記外不織シート及びそれ
    らの組み合わせから選択される挿入層から形成されてい
    る少なくとも一つの挿入部材であって、該挿入部材は前
    記ベース端開口部を介して前記ループ部材内に挿入され
    ており、前記ベース端開口部に隣接して遠位端部とベー
    ス端部を有し、 −前記挿入部材の前記ベース端部以外で前記挿入部材の
    長さの一部分に沿って前記挿入部材に固着されている
    が、前記ループ部材には固着されていない弾性体と、 −前記ループ部材の衣類対向部と装着者対向部のベース
    端部とに挿入部材を取り付けているシールと を含んでなることを特徴とする、吸収性物品。
  5. 【請求項５】前記ループ部材がトップシートであり、前
    記挿入層が前記バックシートである、請求項２又は３に
    記載の吸収性物品。
  6. 【請求項６】前記ループ部材がトップシートであり、前
    記挿入層が前記バックシートと前記第二不織布から選択
    される、請求項３に記載の吸収性物品。
  7. 【請求項７】前記弾性体が前記バックシートと前記第二
    不織布とに固着されている、請求項６に記載の吸収性物
    品。
  8. 【請求項８】前記ループ部材が前記第二不織布であり、
    前記挿入層が前記バックシートを含んでなる、請求項３
    に記載の吸収性物品。
  9. 【請求項９】前記挿入層がさらに前記トップシートと含
    んでなる、請求項８に記載の吸収性物品。
  10. 【請求項１０】前記ループ部材が前記外側不織布であ
    り、前記挿入層が前記バックシートを含んでなる、請求
    項４に記載の吸収性物品。
  11. 【請求項１１】前記挿入層がさらに前記トップシートを
    含んでなる、請求項10に記載の吸収性物品。
  12. 【請求項１２】さらに前記トップシートと前記吸収パッ
    ドとの間に不織布型押しウイッキングストリップを含ん
    でなる、請求項１〜４のいずれかに記載の吸収性物品。
