開発すべく、上記の従来WC基超硬合金製切削工具に着目
し、研究を行なつた結果、WC基超硬合金の結合相形成成
分としてのCo含有量を相対的に少なくした状態で、これ
にB成分を含有させると、B成分はCo成分と反応しなが
ら焼結が進行するので焼結性が向上し、低温焼結が可能
となり、この結果低温で焼結が完了するようになるの
で、WC−WCスケルトンの形成が著しく抑制されることか
ら、合金の靭性が飛躍的に向上し、その上Co成分の一部
がB成分と硬質の金属間化合物を形成し、かつこれによ
つて実質的に遊離Co相の割合がCo含有量に比して少なく
なることから、耐摩耗性(硬さ)も向上するようになる

では所望の靭性および耐摩耗性を確保するのが困難であ
り、一方その含有量が0.5%を越えると、CoとBの金属
間化合物の量が多くなりすぎて靭性が低下するようにな
