Description

The present invention relates to connectors and electronic devices.

Conventionally, some imaging devices such as cameras are equipped with an accessory shoe for attaching an external accessory such as a strobe that illuminates a subject, such as the imaging device described in Patent Document 1.

Imaging devices such as cameras need to have a suitable level of water resistance in anticipation of outdoor use. In particular, accessory shoes with a connector structure to which external accessories are attached need a water-resistant structure because there is a risk that water droplets will adhere to the parts of the terminals used to communicate with the imaging device that are not exposed to the outside of the device, causing problems such as short circuits between the terminals. However, with the configuration disclosed in Patent Document 1, when the accessory shoe is assembled into the imaging device, there is a risk that water droplets will enter the device through the gaps between the various components and adhere to the parts of the accessory shoe terminals that are not exposed to the outside of the device.

The object of the present invention is to provide a connector and electronic device that can prevent water droplets from adhering to the connector terminals and causing problems such as short circuits between the terminals.

In order to achieve the above object, the connector of the present invention is a connector to be attached to the exterior of an electronic device, and includes a plurality of terminals and a holding member for holding the plurality of terminals, the holding member having an annular slope portion on an attachment surface attached to the exterior that is inclined with respect to the direction of attachment to the exterior, the plurality of terminals being exposed from the holding member in an area surrounded by the slope portion on the attachment surface attached to the exterior, the slope portion having a first area that is a first position in the direction of attachment to the exterior, and a second area that is a second position on the side of attachment to the exterior from the first position in the direction of attachment to the exterior, and the first area is located in the vicinity of the terminals.

The present invention can prevent water droplets from adhering to the connector terminals, which can cause problems such as short circuits between the terminals.

FIG.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

1 is a front view of an image pickup device (hereinafter, referred to as a camera) 100 as an electronic device equipped with a connector (hereinafter, referred to as an accessory shoe device) 160 according to an embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the direction of the optical axis of the camera 100 toward the subject is the +z direction, the direction toward the top of the camera 100 in the normal position is the +y direction, and the direction to the right when the camera 100 is viewed from the subject side is the +x direction. An image pickup lens 200 is attached to the camera 100 as an interchangeable lens. The camera 100 and the image pickup lens 200 are electrically connected via a mount contact group (not shown). The camera 100 has an operation unit 130 that is operated by the user to give a shooting instruction. The camera 100 and the image pickup lens 200 may be integrated. Electronic devices equipped with an accessory shoe device are not limited to image pickup devices such as single-lens cameras and video cameras, but also include devices that do not have an image pickup function, such as intermediate accessories that are placed between the image pickup device and an external accessory.

External accessories can be attached and detached to the accessory shoe device 160. External accessories include various accessories such as lighting devices, wireless communication devices, electronic viewfinder units, microphones, conversion adapters, various measuring instruments, sub-cameras, etc. The accessory shoe device 160 has an accessory shoe engagement member 161 for engaging with and holding the external accessory.

Figure 2 is an exploded view of the accessory shoe device 160, where Figure 2(a) is a view of the accessory shoe device 160 from above (+y side), and Figure 2(b) is a view of the accessory shoe device 160 from below (-y side).

The base member 164, which is a holding member that holds the terminals, is provided with a terminal holding portion 164a. A plurality of connection terminals 167 arranged in parallel in the x direction are insert-molded into the terminal holding portion 164a, and each connection terminal 167 has a first terminal portion 167a and a second terminal portion 167b. The first terminal portion 167a is exposed on the +y side of the base member 164, and is located on the +z side (the front side of the camera 100), which is the attachment direction of the external accessory, in the accessory shoe device 160. The accessory shoe engagement member 161 is located directly above the first terminal portion 167a, spaced a predetermined distance from the first terminal portion 167a. Therefore, the first terminal portion 167a cannot be seen from directly above the accessory shoe device 160.

When an external accessory is attached to the accessory shoe device 160, a terminal on the external accessory comes into contact with the first terminal portion 167a, electrically connecting the camera 100 and the external accessory. The second terminal portion 167b is exposed on the -y side of the base member 164 and is disposed on the same plane as the -y side surface of the base member 164 (the mounting surface to the camera 100). When the accessory shoe device 160 is incorporated into the camera 100, the first terminal portion 167a is exposed to the outside of the camera 100, but the second terminal portion 167b is not exposed to the outside of the camera 100.

The flexible substrate 166 has a second terminal portion 167b mounted thereon and is electrically connected to a control substrate disposed inside the camera body 100.

The accessory shoe engagement member 161 has a square U-shape that opens in the -z direction, and is made of sheet metal so that it has the strength to engage with and hold an external accessory. The accessory shoe engagement member 161 and base member 164 are fixed together by heat crimping or the like.

The accessory shoe engagement member 161 also has a pair of engagement portions 161d that are formed to be spaced apart from each other in the x direction and extend in the -z direction, and engage with shoe mounting legs provided on the external accessory. The external accessory can be attached to the accessory shoe device 160 by sliding the shoe mounting legs of the external accessory in the +z direction relative to the accessory shoe device 160. Conversely, the external accessory can be removed from the accessory shoe device 160 by sliding the shoe mounting legs of the external accessory in the -z direction relative to the accessory shoe device 160. The shoe mounting legs provided on the external accessory may be of a known structure, such as the structure described in JP 2021-167932 A, and a detailed description thereof will be omitted.

The accessory shoe engagement member 161 has four female-threaded holes, and is fastened together with the base member 164 to the top surface of the top cover 180 by four screws 169 tightened from the underside (-y side) of the top cover 180, which is the exterior of the camera 100. The top cover 180 has an opening 180b for passing the flexible board 166 connected to the accessory shoe device 160 into the inside of the camera body 100.

Next, we will explain the drip-proof structure between the accessory shoe device 160 and the top cover 180 using Figure 3.

Figure 3 is a diagram explaining the drip-proof structure between the accessory shoe device 160 and the top cover 180. Figure 3(a) is a diagram showing the attachment portion for attaching the accessory shoe device 160 when the top cover 180 is viewed from the +y side, and Figure 3(b) is a diagram showing the attachment surface to the top cover 180 when the accessory shoe device 160 is viewed from the -y side. Figure 3(c) is an xy cross-sectional view near the center when the accessory shoe device 160 is fixed to the top cover 180, and Figure 3(d) is a yz cross-sectional view near the center when the accessory shoe device 160 is fixed to the top cover 180.

As shown in Figures 3(c) and (d), the base drip-proof shape portion 165 provided on the base member 164 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 provided on the top cover 180 are formed so that the gap between them is a very narrow amount of approximately 0.1 mm when attached. The cover drip-proof shape portion 185 is formed so that the convex portion that protrudes toward the base member 164 side (+y side) goes around in a ring shape. On the other hand, the base drip-proof shape portion 165 is formed so that the slope portion that faces one side of the convex portion of the drip-proof shape portion 180 goes around in a ring shape.

Therefore, even if water droplets penetrate through the gap S between the top cover 180 and the accessory shoe engagement member 161 shown in Figures 3(c) and (d), the water droplets can be prevented from penetrating further into the main body through the gap between the drip-proof portion 165 and the drip-proof portion 185.

In addition, as shown in FIG. 3(b), the second terminal portion 167b is located in the inner region of the annular drip-proof shaped portions 165, 185 (the region surrounded by the annular drip-proof shaped portions 165, 185), so that water droplets can be prevented from adhering to the terminal portion 167b and causing a short circuit.

The relationship between the members on which the convex portion and the slope portion are provided may be reversed, and the convex portion may be provided on the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the slope portion may be provided on the cover drip-proof shape portion 185. That is, it is sufficient that one of the mounting surface of the holding member (base member 164) that is attached to the exterior (top cover 180) and the mounting portion where the holding member of the exterior is attached is provided with an annular slope portion that is inclined with respect to the direction in which the holding member is attached to the exterior (-y direction). It is also sufficient that the other of the mounting surface of the holding member that is attached to the exterior and the mounting portion where the holding member of the exterior is attached is provided with a convex portion that faces the slope portion.

The base drip-proof shape portion 165 and cover drip-proof shape portion 185, which are formed in an annular shape, do not have to be circular, and may be shaped like a rectangle or a polygon, or may have a broken portion. For example, the relationship between the members on which the convex portion and the slope portion are provided may be switched at predetermined intervals, and when the base member 164 is attached to the top cover 180, the respective convex portions are combined to form an annular convex portion, and when the respective slope portions are combined, they form an annular slope portion. Alternatively, the relationship between the members on which the convex portion and the slope portion are provided may be switched only partially, and when the base member 164 is attached to the top cover 180, the respective convex portions are combined to form an annular convex portion, and when the respective slope portions are combined, they form an annular slope portion.

In addition, the top cover 180 has a groove 180c formed around the annular cover drip-proof shape 185. Water droplets that enter through the gap S collect in the groove 180c, making it difficult for water droplets to reach the gap between the base drip-proof shape 165 and the cover drip-proof shape 185, and the groove 180c also contributes to improving drip-proof performance.

As described above, in this embodiment, the gap between the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 is minimized to improve drip-proof performance. In addition, by minimizing the gap between the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185, not only drip-proof performance but also dustproof performance can be improved.

However, at least one of the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 may be formed from an elastic body, and the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 may be configured to be pressed against each other when the accessory shoe device 160 is attached to the top cover 180.

This configuration can further prevent water droplets from penetrating through the gap between the drip-proof shaped portion 165 and the drip-proof shaped portion 185, improving drip-proof performance.

Regardless of whether the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 are elastic or not, the structure described below can further prevent water droplets from adhering to the connector terminals and causing problems such as short circuits between the terminals. This is particularly effective in a configuration in which neither the base drip-proof shape portion 165 nor the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 are elastic.

Next, we will explain the structure that improves the drip-proof performance near the second terminal portion 167b.

In this embodiment, as shown in Figures 3(a) and (b), the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 each have areas that are positioned differently in the y direction.

Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3B, the base drip-proof shape portion 165 is composed of a first base drip-proof shape portion 165a, a second base drip-proof shape portion 165b, and an inclined portion 165c that connects the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a and the second base drip-proof shape portion 165b. The inclined portion 165c does not have to have a constant inclination angle. Also, instead of the inclined portion 165c, a wall portion parallel to the y direction may be used, or a staircase shape in which the height changes stepwise between the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a and the second base drip-proof shape portion 165b may be used.

When the accessory shoe device 160 is incorporated into the camera 100, the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a is located in front of the second terminal portion 167b (+z side) in the vicinity of the second terminal portion 167b, and is located on the +y side of the second base drip-proof shape portion 165b. In other words, the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a is located on the tip side of the portion of the multiple terminals that is exposed from the base member 164. Below, the position in the y direction is also expressed as height, and the +y side is described as the side with the higher height.

Similarly, as shown in FIG. 3(a), the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 is composed of a first cover drip-proof shape portion 185a, a second cover drip-proof shape portion 185b, and an inclined portion 185c connecting the first cover drip-proof shape portion 185a and the second cover drip-proof shape portion 185b.

When the accessory shoe device 160 is assembled into the camera 100, the first cover drip-proof shape portion 185a is located in front of the second terminal portion 167b (+z side) near the second terminal portion 167b, and is located on a higher side (+y side) than the second drip-proof shape portion 185b. In other words, the first cover drip-proof shape portion 185a is located on the tip side of the portion of the multiple terminals that is exposed from the base member 164.

When the accessory shoe device 160 is installed in the camera 100, the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a faces the first cover drip-proof shape portion 185a, and the second base drip-proof shape portion 165b faces the second cover drip-proof shape portion 185b.

That is, the base drip-proof shape portion 165 has a first region (165a), a second region (165b) whose position in the y direction differs from that of the first region, and a third region (165c) that connects the first region and the second region. If the position of the first region in the -y direction is the first position, and the position of the second region in the -y direction is the second position, then the second position is located on the -y side of the first position.

The cover drip-proof shape portion 185 has a fourth region (185a), a fifth region (185b) whose position in the y direction differs from that of the fourth region, and a sixth region (185c) that connects the fourth region and the fifth region. If the position of the fourth region in the -y direction is the fourth position, and the position of the fifth region in the -y direction is the fifth position, then the fifth position is located on the -y side of the fourth position.

Furthermore, when the accessory shoe device 160 is incorporated into the camera 100, the first region faces the fourth region, the second region faces the fifth region, and the third region faces the sixth region. In addition, the tips of the portions of the multiple terminals exposed from the base member 164 are located on the -y side of the first and fourth positions in the -y direction.

Figure 4 is an xy cross-sectional view of the drip-proof structure between the accessory shoe device 160 and the top cover 180 at the position of the dashed line E shown in Figure 3 (d).

Let us assume that water droplets that have entered through the gap S at the front (+z side) of the accessory shoe device 160 reach the area (area F) between the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a and the first cover drip-proof shape portion 185a. In this case, the water droplets in area F will flow down due to gravity into the area (area G) between the second base drip-proof shape portion 165b and the second cover drip-proof shape portion 185b.

This reduces the probability that water droplets will be present in region F, and also reduces the probability that water droplets will penetrate through the gap between the base drip-proof shape portion 165 and the cover drip-proof shape portion 185 near the second terminal portion 167b, thereby preventing water droplets from adhering to the terminal portion 167b and causing a short circuit.

In addition, there are manufacturing advantages to providing the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a in front (+z side) of the second terminal portion 167b of the base member 164 of the accessory shoe device 160, which will be explained next.

Figure 5 shows a conventional accessory shoe device 560, and Figure 5(a) is a yz cross-sectional view near the center of the accessory shoe device 560.

In this embodiment, the end of the connection terminal 167 on the +z side is the second terminal portion 167b, but in the conventional accessory shoe device 560, the end of the connection terminal 567 extends forward (in the +z direction) beyond the second terminal portion 567b and is located near the end face on the +z side of the base member 564. The end of the connection terminal 567 in this conventional accessory shoe device 560 is referred to as end portion 567e.

The reason why the end of the connection terminal 567 in the conventional accessory shoe device 560 extends further forward (in the +z direction) than the second terminal portion 567b is due to the process of insert-molding the connection terminal into the base member.

Figure 5(b) is a diagram showing the state before the connection terminal 567 of a conventional accessory shoe device 560 is insert-molded into the base member 564. Figure 5(c) is a cross-sectional view showing the state after the connection terminal 567 has been insert-molded into the base member 564. Figure 5(d) is a cross-sectional view showing the state after the connection terminal 567 has been cut after it has been insert-molded into the base member 564. The connection terminal 567 is connected to a connecting portion 567c so that the multiple terminal portions arranged side by side in the x direction are easily held during insert molding.

However, as shown in FIG. 5(c), since there is a wall portion 565 in front of the second terminal portion 567b, the tip side of the second terminal portion 567b is once bent in the +y direction and then extended again in the +z direction to avoid the wall portion 565, and then the connecting portion 567c is provided.

The connecting portion 567c of the connection terminal 567 is cut off with a dedicated cutter or the like from the state shown in FIG. 5(c), but the cutting of the connection terminal 567 is performed at the portion exposed from the base member 564. Therefore, the state after the connecting portion 567c is cut off is as shown in FIG. 5(d). At this time, the end 567e on the +z side of the connection terminal 567 is exposed to the outside of the base member 564, and the space in which the end 567e is located is directly connected to the gap between the accessory shoe device 560 and the member to which the accessory shoe device 560 is attached on the camera. In other words, water droplets that have entered through the gap between the accessory shoe device 560 and the member to which the accessory shoe device 560 is attached on the camera are likely to adhere to the end 567e. In order to make it difficult for water droplets that have entered with such a structure to adhere to the end 567e, it is necessary to cover the end 567e of the connection terminal with adhesive 568 or the like as shown in FIG. 5(a).

On the other hand, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 3(d), the first base drip-proof shape portion 165a of the base member 164 is located in front of (on the +z side of) the second terminal portion 167b and at a higher position than the second terminal portion 167b.

Therefore, after insert molding, a space for inserting a cutter or the like is secured near the second terminal portion 167b, making it possible to cut off the connecting portion at the location of the second terminal portion 167b. In other words, compared to the conventional accessory shoe device 560, the accessory shoe device 160 of this embodiment does not require the connection terminal 167 to extend beyond the second terminal portion 167b. Therefore, there is no need to cover the end of the connection terminal 167 with adhesive to prevent infiltrating water droplets from adhering to the connection terminal 167, and adhesive or its application process is not required during the manufacturing process.

The above describes preferred embodiments of the present invention, but the present invention is not limited to these embodiments, and various modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the gist of the invention.
