Claims (46)
- 賦形された研磨粒子を含むブラスト加工媒体。

- 前記本体は少なくとも約0.1のディッシング値(d)を有する、請求項2に記載のブラスト加工媒体。
- 前記本体は高さの平均差とプロファイル長さとの比[(hc−hm)/(Lmiddle)]として定義されるプロファイル比が少なくとも約0.04であり、前記プロファイル比が約0.3以下である、請求項2に記載のブラスト加工媒体。
- 前記第1の側面及び第2の側面は前記本体の高さの方向に延びる鉛直軸に対してテーパ状になっている、請求項2に記載のブラスト加工媒体。
- 前記本体は第1の領域及び前記第1の領域と区別される第2の領域を含み、該第1の領域は圧縮下にあり、該第2の領域は引張り下にあり、該第1の領域は第1の組成を有し、該第2の領域は第2の組成を有し、該第1の組成は該第2の組成とは明確に異なる、請求項2に記載のブラスト加工媒体。
- 請求項1に記載のブラスト加工媒体であって、少なくとも約80%の砥粒残存率(surviving grain factor)をさらに含む該ブラスト加工媒体。
- 前記ブラスト加工媒体は、
前記賦形された研磨粒子を含む第1の部分と、
第2の研磨粒子を含み、該第2の研磨粒子が平均粒度(average particle size)、平均結晶粒度(average grain size)、2次元形状、組成、フラッシング率、粒子寸法、及びそれらの組合せからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの粒子特性において前記賦形された研磨粒子とは異なるものである第2の部分と、
を含む、請求項1に記載のブラスト加工媒体。 - 気体物質を含む担体及び複数の賦形された研磨粒子を含む研磨材を被加工物に向けることと、
該被加工物の表面を調製することと、
を含む被加工物の表面を調製する方法。 - 研磨材を被加工物に向けることは該研磨材の速度を制御することを含み、該研磨材の速度を制御することは前記担体の圧力を制御することを含み、該担体の圧力は0.5バール(5×104Pa)〜約8バール(8×105Pa)の範囲内である、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 調製することは前記被加工物の平均表面粗さ(Ra)を変化させることを含み、調製することは式[(Ra−Rao)/Rao]×100%[式中、Raは表面処理操作を行った後の該被加工物の該表面粗さを表し、Raoは該表面処理操作を行う前の該被加工物の初期平均表面粗さを表す]に従って、該被加工物の平均表粗さ(Ra)を初期平均表面粗さから少なくとも1%だけ増加させることを含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 調製することは前記被加工物の最大表面粗さ(Rz)を変えることを含み、調製することは式[(Rz−Rzo)/Rzo]×100%[式中、Rzは表面処理操作を行った後の該被加工物の最大表面粗さを表し、Rzoは該表面処理操作を行う前の該被加工物の初期最大表面粗さを表す]に従って、該被加工物の最大表面粗さ(Rz)を初期最大表面粗さから少なくとも約1%だけ増加させることを含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 調製後、前記被加工物は約85度を超える平均濡れ角を有する、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記濡れ角は式[(Wa−Wi)/Wi]×100%[式中、Waは表面処理操作を行った後の濡れ角を表し、Wiは該表面処理操作を行う前の初期濡れ角を表す]に従って、初期濡れ角に対して少なくとも約1%だけ増加する、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記被加工物の前記表面はグージ溝(gouges)を含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記グージ溝は前記表面に亘ってランダムに分布している、請求項21記載に記載の方法。
- 前記グージ溝は平均長さ及び平均幅を有し、該グージ溝は少なくとも約2:1の(平均長さ):(平均幅)のアスペクト比を規定する、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記グージ溝は前記複数の賦形された研磨粒子の稜(edges)によって作られた切削痕(cuts)に相当する、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 担体及び複数の賦形された研磨粒子を含む研磨材を被加工物に向けることと、
該被加工物の表面の平均表面粗さ(Ra)を初期平均表面粗さから増加させることと、
平均濡れ角を初期平均濡れ角に対して増加させることと、
を含む被加工物の表面を調製する方法。 - 前記担体は気体物質を含む、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 複数の賦形された研磨粒子を自由砥粒(free abrasives)のバッチとして集めることをさらに含み、前記複数の研磨粒子を仕分けすることをさらに含む、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 向けることは、前記複数の賦形された研磨粒子の各賦形された研磨粒子を前記担体との流れの中で自由研磨粒子として投射することを含む、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記平均表面粗さを増加させることは、式[(Ra−Rao)/Rao]×100%[式中、Raは表面処理操作を行った後の前記被加工物の平均表面粗さを表し、Raoは該表面処理操作を行う前の初期平均表面粗さを表す]に従って、該被加工物の平均表面粗さ(Ra)を初期平均表面粗さから少なくとも1%だけ増加させることを含む、請求項25に記載の方法。

- 調製後に前記複数の賦形された研磨粒子の少なくとも一部を回収することをさらに含み、表面処理操作を行った後の砥粒残存率が少なくとも約80%である、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記濡れ角を増大させることは該濡れ角を鈍角にまで増大させることを含む、請求項25に記載の方法。

- 前記複数の賦形された研磨粒子の各賦形された研磨粒子は長さ(l)、幅(w)、及び高さ(hi)を有する本体を含み、該高さ(hi)は前記本体の内部高さであり、w>lかつw>hiである、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記本体は三角形、四角形、長方形、台形、五角形、六角形、七角形、六角形、八角形、九角形、十角形、五角形、およびこれらの組合せからなる群から選ばれる形状を含む、請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記本体は側面から延びるフラッシングを含み、前記本体は前記本体の総側面積に対して約10%以上約45%以下のフラッシング率(f)を有する、請求項34に記載の方法。
- ブラスト加工媒体により改質された表面を有し、該表面に亘ってランダムに分布しているグージ溝を含む被加工物であって、該グージ溝が平均長さ及び平均幅を有し、さらに少なくとも約2:1の(平均長さ):(平均幅)のアスペクト比を規定する、該被加工物。
- 該被加工物は金属、金属合金、セラミックス、ガラス、複合物、有機材料、およびこれらの組合せからなる群から選ばれる材料を含む、請求項37に記載の被加工物。
- 前記グージ溝は約5mm以下の平均長さを有する、請求項37に記載の被加工物。

- 前記表面は式[(Ra−Rao)/Rao]×100%[式中、Raは表面処理操作を行った後の該被加工物の平均表面粗さを表し、Raoは表面処理操作を行う前の該被加工物の初期平均表面粗さを表す]に従って、平均表面粗さ(Ra)が初期平均表面粗さから少なくとも1%増大するように改質された、請求項37に記載の被加工物。
- 前記表面は式[(Rz−Rzo)/Rzo]×100%[式中、Rzは表面処理操作を行った後の該被加工物の最大表面粗さを表し、Rzoは該表面処理操作を行う前の該被加工物の初期最大表面粗さを表す]に従って、最大表面粗さ(Rz)が初期最大表面粗さから少なくとも1%増大するように改質された、請求項37に記載の被加工物。
- 前記表面は約85度以上の平均濡れ角を有する、請求項37に記載の被加工物。
- 前記表面は式[(Wa−Wi)/Wi]×100%[式中、Waは表面処理操作を行った後の濡れ角を表し、Wiは前記表面処理操作を行う前の初期濡れ角を表す]に従って、濡れ角が初期濡れ角に対して少なくとも約1%だけ増大するように改質された、請求項37に記載の被加工物。
