Abstract

Description
一対の第1短辺及び一対の第1長辺を有する第1基板と、前記第1基板に対向配置された第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に保持された液晶層と、を備え、アクティブエリアに画像を表示する液晶表示パネルと、前記第1基板の外面側に配置され、前記第1短辺よりも長い一対の第2短辺と、一対の第2長辺と、前記第2短辺とのなす角度a1が前記第2長辺とのなす角度b1よりも小さい第1吸収軸と、を有する第1偏光板と、前記第2基板の外面側に配置され、第2吸収軸を有する第2偏光板と、を備えた液晶表示装置が提供される。

Claims (8)
- 一対の第1短辺及び一対の第1長辺を有する第1基板と、前記第1基板に対向配置された第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に保持された液晶層と、を備え、アクティブエリアに画像を表示する液晶表示パネルと、
前記第1基板の外面側に配置され、前記第1短辺よりも長い一対の第2短辺と、一対の第2長辺と、前記第2短辺とのなす角度a1が前記第2長辺とのなす角度b1よりも小さい第1吸収軸と、を有する第1偏光板と、
前記第2基板の外面側に配置され、第2吸収軸を有する第2偏光板と、
を備えた液晶表示装置。 - 前記一対の第2長辺のそれぞれは、前記第1基板よりも外側にはみ出している、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1吸収軸と前記第2短辺とのなす角度a1は、前記第2短辺と前記第1偏光板の対角線とのなす角度c1よりも小さい、請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2偏光板は、一対の第3短辺と、一対の第3長辺と、を有し、前記第2吸収軸は前記第1吸収軸と略直交し、前記第2吸収軸と前記第3短辺とのなす角度a2が前記第2吸収軸と前記第3長辺とのなす角度b2よりも大きい、請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記一対の第3短辺のそれぞれは、前記第2基板よりも外側にはみ出している、請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2吸収軸と前記第3長辺とのなす角度b2は、前記第3長辺と前記第2偏光板の対角線とのなす角度c2よりも小さい、請求項4または5に記載の液晶表示装置。
- さらに、前記第2偏光板と対向するカバー部材と、前記第2偏光板と前記カバー部材とを貼り合わせる透明な樹脂と、を備え、
前記一対の第3短辺のそれぞれは、前記樹脂のエッジよりも内側に位置している、請求項4乃至6のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1偏光板及び前記第2偏光板の少なくとも一方は、位相差フィルムと保護層との間に偏光子を挟持した構成である、請求項1乃至7のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
