本出願は、2008年6月30日に出願された米国仮特許出願第61/077,145号からの優先権を主張し、この仮特許出願は、その全体が本明細書により参考として援用される。
本発明の主題は、保護コーティングに、より具体的には超疎水性コーティングに関する。
近年、防衛関連の腐食コストが、年間米国防衛費総額の約7%を超えるものと見積もられており、腐食関連コスト推定額の約20%が、鋼構造体におけるさび落とし(scraping)および再塗装に関連している。これらの驚くほどのコストが鋼の腐食から来ているため、従来のコーティングよりも性能が優れている可能性のある多機能コーティングを開発する途方もなく大きなニーズが存在する。例えば、撥水性の疎水性表面を作り出すことが、金属構成部分のための腐食抑制の分野において、および衣服の化学および生物学剤防護の分野においても、また多くの他の用途において巨大な可能性を有している。耐食性材料を達成するための多くの様々な取組みが試みられている。例えば、耐食性材料を作るために、金属構成部分上に2層コーティングを形成することができる。2層コーティングは、水および/または塩イオンがコーティング表面に浸透するのを防止するために使用される、疎水性下部層と、疎水性もしくは超疎水性表層とを含むことができる。しかし、大部分の超疎水性コーティングは、環境に優しくない恐れがあるフッ素を含有し、また製造するのに費用効果的ではない可能性がある。
種々の実施形態により、超疎水性コーティングを調製する一方法が存在する。この方法は、第1の溶媒、少なくとも1種のアルコキシシラン前駆体、水および酸を使用して形成される超高水分含量酸触媒作用によるポリシリケートゲルを提供するステップであり、このポリシリケートゲルが、表面官能基を有するシリカ粒子の三次元網目および多数の孔を含むことができ、この多数の孔内に流体が配置され、この流体が第1の溶媒、アルコキシシランの酸触媒作用加水分解の1種または複数の反応生成物および未反応材料を含むステップを含むことができる。この方法はまた、このポリシリケートゲルの多数の孔内に存在する第1の溶媒を、第1の溶媒と不混和性である第2の溶媒で置き換えるステップと、表面官能基を、シリル化剤を使用し誘導体化して、表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルを形成するステップとを含むこともできる。この方法はさらに、第3の溶媒中において表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルのコーティング溶液を形成するステップと、このコーティング溶液を基材表面に塗布して、超疎水性コーティングを形成するステップとを含むことができる。
ここで、その例が付属の図面中に例示されている、本実施形態を詳細に参照する。可能な箇所ではどこでも、図面全体にわたって同一の参照番号は、同一もしくは同様な部分を指すのに使用されるであろう。
超疎水性コーティングの形成
Claims (21)
- 超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法であって、
第1の溶媒、少なくとも1種のアルコキシシラン前駆体、水および酸を使用して形成される超高水分含量酸触媒作用によるポリシリケートゲルを提供するステップであり、該ポリシリケートゲルが、表面官能基を有するシリカ粒子の三次元網目、および多数の孔を含み、該多数の孔内に流体が配置され、該流体が該第1の溶媒、該アルコキシシランの酸触媒作用加水分解の1種または複数の反応生成物および未反応材料を含むステップと、
該ポリシリケートゲルの該多数の孔内に配置される該流体を、該第1の溶媒と不混和性である第2の溶媒で置き換えるステップと、
該表面官能基を、シリル化剤を使用し誘導体化して、表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルを形成するステップと、
第3の溶媒中において該表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルのコーティング溶液を形成するステップと、
該コーティング溶液を基材表面に塗布して、超疎水性コーティングを形成するステップと
を含む方法。 - 超高水分含量酸触媒作用によるポリシリケートゲルを提供する前記ステップが、水 対 アルコキシシラン前駆体のモル比が約10〜約80の範囲にあるように、前記第1の溶媒、少なくとも1種のアルコキシシラン前駆体、水および酸を使用して該ポリシリケートゲルを形成するステップを含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。
- 前記アルコキシシラン前駆体が、メチルトリメトキシシラン、ビニルトリメトキシシラン、ジメチルジエトキシシラン、メタクリルオキシプロピルトリメトキシシラン、メルカプトプロピルトリメトキシシラン、クロロプロピルトリメトキシシラン、ブロモプロピルトリメトキシシラン、ヨードプロピルトリメトキシシランおよびクロロメチルトリメトキシシラン、テトラエトキシシラン、テトラメトキシシランならびに1,2−ビス(トリエトキシシリル)エタンからなる群から選択される1種または複数のシラン化合物を含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。
- 前記ポリシリケートゲルの前記多数の孔内に配置される前記流体を、第2の溶媒で置き換える前記ステップが、
(a)前記超高水分含量酸触媒作用によるポリシリケートゲルを砕いて、破砕ゲルを形成するステップと、
(b)該破砕ゲルに第2の溶媒を添加し、約40℃〜約60℃の範囲にある温度で少なくとも約30分間保持するステップと、
(c)該破砕ゲルから、過剰な該第2の溶媒および該第1の溶媒を除去するステップと、
(d)ステップbおよびcを、少なくとも1回繰り返すステップと
を含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。 - 前記表面官能基を、シリル化剤を使用し誘導体化して、表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルを形成する前記ステップが、
前記ポリシリケートゲルにシリル化剤を徐々に添加するステップであり、該シリル化剤が、トリメチルクロロシラン、トリクロロメチルシラン、トリクロロオクチルシラン、ヘキサメチルジシラザン、および少なくとも1つの疎水性リガンドを含む任意の反応性シランの1種または複数を含むステップと、
該ポリシリケートゲルを、約40℃〜約60℃の範囲にある温度でシリル化剤中において約6時間〜約10時間貯蔵して、表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルを形成するステップと、
過剰の該シリル化剤を除去するステップと
を含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。 - 第3の溶媒中において前記表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルのコーティング溶液を形成する前記ステップが、
該表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルを前記第2の溶媒で洗浄するステップと、
該表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルを第3の溶媒で少なくとも2回洗浄するステップと、
該表面誘導体化ポリシリケートゲルに該第3の溶媒を添加して、コーティング溶液を形成するステップと
を含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。 - 前記第3の溶媒が、前記第1の溶媒と同じである、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。
- 前記コーティング溶液を基材表面に塗布する前記ステップが、浸し塗り、はけ塗り、ローラ塗り、吹付け塗り、スピンコーティング、キャスティングおよび流し塗りの少なくとも1種を使用して該コーティング溶液を塗布するステップを含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。
- 前記基材表面が、金属、シリコンウエハ、ガラス、セラミック、プラスチックおよび布の少なくとも1つを含む、請求項1に記載の超疎水性コーティングを調製する方法。
- 基材構成部分と、
該基材構成部分を覆って配置された1層または複数の超疎水性コーティングであり、超高水分含量酸触媒作用によるポリシリケートゲルを含み、該ポリシリケートゲルが、シリル化剤により誘導体化された表面官能基を有するシリカ粒子の三次元網目、および多数の孔を含む1層または複数の超疎水性コーティングと
を備える超疎水性デバイスであって、
該1層または複数の超疎水性コーティングの少なくとも1層が、少なくとも約150°の水接触角および約1°未満の接触角ヒステリシスを有する超疎水性デバイス。 - 前記基材構成部分が、金属、シリコンウエハ、ガラス、セラミック、プラスチックおよび布の少なくとも1つを含む、請求項10に記載の超疎水性デバイス。
- 前記シリル化剤が、トリメチルクロロシラン、トリクロロメチルシラン、トリクロロオクチルシラン、ヘキサメチルジシラザン、および少なくとも1つの疎水性リガンドを含む任意の反応性シランの1種または複数を含む、請求項10に記載の超疎水性デバイス。
- それぞれの前記1層または複数の超疎水性コーティングが、約0.2μm〜約3μmの範囲にある厚さを有する、請求項10に記載の超疎水性デバイス。
- 前記1層または複数の超疎水性コーティングの少なくとも1層が、水環境における、防氷コーティング、防曇コーティング、抗菌コーティング、耐汚染性コーティング、および摩擦抵抗低減コーティングの少なくとも1つとして使用される、請求項10に記載の超疎水性デバイス。
- 前記1層または複数の超疎水性コーティングの少なくとも1層が、約1800時間以上の間、腐食に耐える、請求項10に記載の超疎水性デバイス。
- 少なくとも1つの領域を含む表面と、
該少なくとも1つの領域を覆って配置された超疎水性コーティングであり、超高水分含量触媒作用によるポリシリケートゲルを含み、該ポリシリケートゲルが、シリル化剤により誘導体化された表面官能基を有するシリカ粒子の三次元網目、および多数の孔を含む超疎水性コーティングと
を備える物品であって、
該超疎水性コーティングが、少なくとも約150°の水接触角、および約1°未満の接触角ヒステリシスを有する物品。 - 前記シリル化剤が、トリメチルクロロシラン、トリクロロメチルシラン、トリクロロオクチルシラン、ヘキサメチルジシラザン、および少なくとも1つの疎水性リガンドを含む任意の反応性シランからなる群から選択される、請求項16に記載の物品。
- 前記超疎水性コーティングが、約0.2μm〜約3μmの範囲にある厚さを有する、請求項16に記載の物品。
- 前記超疎水性コーティングが、約1800時間以上の間、腐食に耐える、請求項16に記載の物品。
- 前記超疎水性コーティングが、水環境における、防氷コーティング、防曇コーティング、抗菌コーティング、耐汚染性コーティング、および摩擦抵抗低減コーティングの少なくとも1つのために使用される、請求項16に記載の物品。
- アンテナ、窓、自動車、航空機、建物、布地、ボート、部分的および/または完全に水没した水中構造体の少なくとも1つを備える、請求項16に記載の物品。
