画像が作製される作像手段と、この作像手段に対向して設けられ且つ作像手段にて作製された画像を直接若しくは記録材を介して転移搬送する像転移搬送ベルトとを備えた画像形成装置であって、
像転移搬送ベルトは、複数の張架部材に掛け渡されて循環回転するベルト基材と、
このベルト基材の循環方向に交差する幅方向側端寄り表面周囲に沿って段差をもって貼り付けられる帯状の補強部材とを有し、
最大使用サイズの記録材の搬送方向に交差する幅方向寸法内に面して補強部材の少なくとも一部を配置すると共に、補強部材の配設領域を除くベルト基材表面に対向する部位に前記作像手段による最大作像領域を設定したことを特徴とする画像形成装置。
