これらの欠点を解消するために、一剤形態で染毛できるものや、フィルム形成ポリマーやシリコン樹脂を安定に配合することにより、色持ちや、二次染着を解消する検討がなされてきた(例えば、特許文献1、2参照)。
これに対し、後者の一時染毛剤(以下、「頭髪着色料」と記すことがある)は、顔料及び基剤の被覆力により頭髪に顔料の皮膜を形成して髪色を変化させるもので、カラースプレー、カラーフォーム等の剤型があり、非常に簡単に着色でき、髪への負担も少なく、使用部位や色調も自在に調節することが可能であるため、気軽に使用することができるものであるが、その着色効果は一時的なものであり、一回のシャンプーですぐに洗い落とされてしまうものである。

これに対して、成分(A)の代わりに炭化水素油剤以外の揮発性油剤であるデカメチルシクロペンタシロキサンを配合した比較例1ではべとつきやごわつきがあり、不揮発性油剤である2−エチルへキサン酸セチルを配合した比較例2は、やはり、べとつきやごわつきがあり、二次付着防止効果も着色効果の持続性にも劣るものであった。
成分(B)の配合されていない比較例3は皮膜形成能力が弱いため、二次付着防止効果に劣り、また、1回のシャンプーで洗い落とされ着色効果の持続性に欠けるものであった。また、成分(B)のかわりに成分(B)以外の共重合体を配合した比較例4ではべとつきやごわつきが感じられた。
さらに、成分(C)の配合されていない比較例5では、特に着色効果の持続及び経時安定性の点で満足いくものが得られず、成分(C)のかわりに融点が80℃以下のマイクロクリスタリンワックスを配合した比較例6ではべとつきやごわつきがあり、経時安定性の点において満足いくものが得られなかった。
