Abstract

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf club head structure required for effectively achieving improvement of flexibility of a face plate, because it is effective that the face plate is made flexible for raising resilience performance to make deflection larger to relatively reduce deflection of a ball side because energy absorption is carried out almost by the ball side upon a collision of a club head with a ball when considering their materials. <P>SOLUTION: Though the face plate is combined with the head body, improvement of flexibility of the face plate is easily and freely attained and the resilience coefficient upon impact is raised by making a part of the combination part be a structure with slits and cutting off the combination of both at the part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

本発明は、クラブフェース部とヘッド本体の境界付近にスリットを設けことにより、フェースプレートの柔軟性を増して反発性能を上げ、ボールの飛距離（初速度）が増大するようにしたゴルフクラブのヘッドに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
ゴルフにおけるボールの飛距離の増大は、多くのゴルファーの願望である。
そのために、クラブヘッドの材質、構造等について幾多の工夫がなされているが、現状における技術の主流は、クラブヘッドを出来るだけ大きくしてクラブフェースの面積を増すと共に出来るだけ薄くすることによりフェースプレートの柔軟性を増すものであり、結果としてボールの飛距離（初速度）が増大する。

しかし、クラブヘッドの体積の増大やフェースプレートを薄くすることには限度があり、十分な反発性能を得ることは出来ない。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
そこで、クラブヘッドの大型化には限界があるため、その大きさに依らず、しかも高価な材料を使用しなくても十分な反発性能が得られる方法を考えることが有効である。

現状におけるクラブヘッドとボールの反発係数は、０．８程度と１．０よりかなり低くなっており、ヘッド速度が上がると低下する傾向がある。この原因について考察すると、ヘッドの材質は金属等でありヘッド特にフェース部は弾性限度内で用いられるので弾性体であると考えてよいが、ボールの方はその材質、構造からして弾性体ではなく、そのヒステリシス特性により打撃時にかなりのエネルギー吸収を伴う。したがって、反発係数低下の原因は、そのほとんど全てがボール側にあることが分かる。つまり、反発係数はボールの潰れの状況によって決定され、ボールの潰れ量が増加する程低下することになる。

上記の事実から、反発係数を上げるためには、弾性体であるクラブフェース部を出来るだけ柔軟にして大きく変形するようにし、弾性体ではないボールの潰れを相対的に少なくして、エネルギー吸収量を減少すればよいことが分かる。このためには、フェースプレートの強度を確保した上で柔軟にするために、上質材料（チタン、ジュラルミン、超高張力鋼、アモルファス合金等）を用いて薄くすると共にヘッドを大型化してフェース面積を増大すること等が有効な手段となる。しかしながら、ヘッドの大型化やフェースプレートの薄肉化には限界があり、十分な柔軟性を得ることは出来ない。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明では、ウッド及びアイアン型クラブヘッド（パターを除く）のフェースプレートとヘッド本体の結合部分にスリットを設け、その部分での両者の結合を断つ構造を採用する。
中空構造のウッド及びアイアンヘッドでは、基本的にはクラウンプレート及びソールプレートとフェースプレートとの結合部分に適度な長さと幅を持つ２本のスリットをフェースプレート内面に沿った形態で設ける。その他、必要に応じてクラウンプレート、ソールプレート、トウプレートあるいはヒールプレートに１本から４本の適度な長さと幅を持つスリットを設ける。
キャビティー構造のアイアンヘッドでは、ソール部の瘤状部分に適度な長さと幅を持つ１本のスリットをフェースプレート背面に沿った形態で設ける。
中実構造のウッド及びアイアンヘッドでは、ヘッド上部から下部に渡りあるいは前部から後部に渡って適度な長さと幅を持つスリットをクラブフェース表面から適度な距離だけ後退した位置に設ける。

上記のように構成された本発明によれば、部分的にフェースプレートとヘッド本体との結合が断たれているので、フェースの面積及び使用する材料に依らずフェースプレートの柔軟性を略自由に高めることが出来る。また、ドライバーに最近多く採用されている無理な大型化や上質材料の使用に必然性がなく、フェアーウエイウッドやアイアンヘッドのように大型化が非実用的なクラブヘッドに対しても容易に適用できる。
したがって、インパクト時のボールの潰れ量を十分小さく出来ることになり、反発係数が上昇するため、ボールの初速が上昇し飛距離が伸びることになる。

【実施例】
以下、本発明の実施例について図面に基づいて説明する。
図１は、本発明ゴルフクラブの中空ウッドヘッドの外観を示したものであり、図２は、図１のＡ−Ａ断面を示したものである。これは本発明の代表例であり、クラウンプレート１１及びソールプレート１２にフェースプレート１３の内面１５に沿った形態で適度な長さと幅を持つ２本のスリットＳが設けられている。
Ｐは、補強のために厚肉化した部分であり、必要に応じて設ける。
この例では、フェースプレート１３とヘッド本体１１および１２の結合条件がこれまでのクラブとは全く異なり、フェースプレート１３の十分な柔軟性が容易に得られる。

図３は、本発明による中空ウッドクラブヘッドのフェースプレート背面直後の断面を示したものであり、Ｃがフェースプレート１３とヘッド本体を結合した部分、Ｓがスリットを設ける位置を表している。本発明の代表例は、Ｓ１及びＳ２の２本のスリットを設けるものであるが、必要に応じて任意本数（１〜４本）のスリットＳを設けることが可能である。

図４は、キャビティー構造を有するアイアンヘッドの外観を示し、図５は、図４のＢ−Ｂ断面を示している。スリットＳをソールの瘤状部分１６にフェースプレート１３の背面１５に沿った形態で設ける。この例では、現状のクラブにおいてソールの瘤状部分１６によって高剛性化されているフェースプレート１３の特に下部の柔軟性が大きく上昇する。

【発明の効果】
以上説明したようなスリットを有する構造を採用し、フェースプレートの厚さ（剛性）、スリットの形状と数等を適度に設定することにより、ヘッドの大きさ、材質等に依らずフェースプレートの柔軟性を十分高くでき、ヘッドの反発係数を非常に高くすることが可能となる。当然ボールの初速度（飛距離）が上昇する。しかも、ヘッドの大型化に拘る必要がなく大型化が不適切なクラブにも適用可能であること、また上質材料の使用にも拘る必要がないこと、製造も容易であること等から、多くのゴルファーが望む飛距離の面で極めて効果的なクラブを低コストで提供することが可能となる。

At present, the coefficient of restitution of the club head and the ball is about 0.8, which is considerably lower than 1.0, and tends to decrease as the head speed increases.
