【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、ボールペン用油性インキとして好適に用いられ、短時間あるいは長時間の書き出し時の筆記カスレを抑制し、筆跡の柔らかく滑らかな筆感及び低速で筆記した時のインキ転写性を潤滑にすることに優れたボールペン用油性インキ組成物に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
従来、油性ボールペンは、ボールチップ先端部のインキの溶剤が蒸発してインキが増粘した場合、書き出し時にインキが吐出し難くなって筆跡がカスレたりボールが十分回転する様になるまで十分濃い筆跡が得られないといった欠点が発生しやすかった。また、このカスレ現象は、環境条件による依存性も強く、低温及び高温下でたびたび発生し、不快なものとなっていた。更に請求項に示す様な揮発性の高い溶剤を使用するとこの様な問題は顕著になり大きな問題となる。この様な欠点を解決するために従来より種々の工夫が検討されてきた。例えば、特公昭61−52872号公報に記載されている発明では、特定の非イオン系界面活性剤を添加してインキの流動性を保持し、特公昭57−38629号公報には高沸点芳香族炭化水素を溶剤としインキが乾燥したり、吸湿して変質するのを低減する発明が記載され、特開平3−28279号公報に記載の発明では、リン酸エステルを添加してインキの流動性を保持し、特開平6−247093号公報に記載の発明では、不揮発性の溶剤を使用しインキが完全に乾ききるのを防ぐ。

特開平11−158421号公報に記載の発明では、塩基性染料とリン酸エステルとの塩を配合したことによりペン先での染料の結晶化を抑制し、ペン先端部で乾燥固化し難くグリス状からペースト状を得ることなどでインキの流動性を保持するなどを施して滑らかに書き出し、それぞれ問題となるカスレ現象を改善しようとしている。また、特開平11−21495号公報に記載の発明も、酸性ポリオキシエチレンアルキルエーテルリン酸エステルを所定のアルキルアルカノールアミンまたはモルホリンで中和することによって同様な効果を生み出している。しかし、ここで使用されているアミン物質は臭気が強く、反応性が高いことから溶剤、染料等の選択の自由度が狭くなる傾向にあった。また、安定な中和物というものを決める手だてがなかった。

しかし、従来油性ボールペンに使用される様な蒸気圧が0.01mmHgより低い溶剤では問題になり難いが、蒸気圧が高い溶剤ではボール周囲にインク凝着物が固化してしまうと、ボールを動かす書き出しに対して非常に強い筆記荷重が必要となる。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記課題を達成するために、本発明におけるボールペン用油性インキ組成物は、以下に示す点を特徴とすることにより課題を解決できることを見い出し、本発明を完成した。
(1)少なくとも色材、樹脂、リン酸エステル中和物、ポリプロピレングリコールを含み、25℃での蒸気圧が0.001mmHg以上であるアルコール、多価アルコール、グリコールエーテルから選ばれる溶剤を全溶剤の50%以上占める主溶剤として含むことを特徴とするボールペン用油性インキ組成物。
(2)グリコールエーテルが下記化学構造式(1)

(3)ポリプロピレングリコールは、分子量が1,000以上のものであり、添加量として0.01重量%〜10重量%であることを特徴とする上記(1)(2)ボールペン用油性インキ組成物。
(4)色材は、顔料あるいは顔料と染料併用であることを特徴とする上記(1)〜(3)ボールペン用油性インキ組成物。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明の組成物に用いられる主溶剤(全溶剤の50重量%以上)としては、25℃での蒸気圧が0.001mmHg以上のアルコール、多価アルコール、グリコールエーテルから選ばれる溶剤を用いる。この様に蒸気圧の高い特定の溶剤を使用することで、筆跡の滑らかな筆感に優れた油性ボールペンを提供することを可能にする。本発明のボールペン用油性インキ組成物はこの様に蒸気圧の高い特定の溶剤を使用した場合に特有の問題を解決することを目的として開発されたものである。主溶剤とは全溶剤の50重量%以上含まれることをいうが、必要に応じて70重量%以上、さらには80重量%以上、特に90重量%以上で用いることができる。

具体的にアルコール類としては、炭素数が2以上の脂肪族アルコールであり、エタノール、n−プロパノール、イソプロパノール、n−ブタノール、イソブタノール、tert−ブチルアルコール、1−ペンタノール、イソアミルアルコール、sec−アミルアルコール、3−ペンタノール、tert−アミルアルコール、n−ヘキサノール、メチルアミルアルコール、2−エチルブタノール、n−ヘプタノール、2−ヘプタノール、3−ヘプタノール、n−オクタノール、2−オクタノール、2−エチルヘキサノール、3,5,5−トリメチルヘキサノール、ノナノール、n−デカノール、ウンデカノール、n−デカノール、トリメチルノニルアルコール、テトラデカノール、ヘプタデカノール、シクロヘキサノール、2−メチルシクロヘキサノール、ベンジルアルコールやその他多種の高級アルコール等が挙げられる。

また、多価アルコールとしてはエチレングリコール、ジエチレングリコール、3−メチル−1,3−ブンタンジオール、トリエチレングリコール、ジプロピレングリコール、1,3−プロパンジオール、1,3−ブタンジオール、1,5−ペンタンジオール、ヘキシレングリコール、オクチレングリコール等の分子内に2個以上の炭素、2個以上の水酸基を有する多価アルコールが挙げられる。

特に好ましいのは化学構造式(1)に示されるような溶剤が挙げられ、プロピレングリコールモノメチルエーテル、1,3−ブタンジオール、3−メトキシ−1−ブタノール、3−メチル−3−メトキシ−1−ブタノール等が挙げられる。

以上挙げた溶剤の中で特に好ましいのは、炭素数2〜7のグリコールエーテルが特に効果が解り易い。また、安全性及び経口毒性等の点から好ましくはエチレングリコール誘導体等以外の有機溶剤を使用した方が好ましい。

また、以上に挙げた溶剤の他にリン酸エステルとアミン系化合物の混合物との溶解性や発揮性能を妨げない範囲で以下に挙げる溶剤を添加することも可能である。

それらの例として、多価アルコール類誘導体があり、ソルビタン脂肪酸系、ポリグリセリン高級脂肪酸系、ショ糖脂肪酸系、プロピレングリコール脂肪酸系等の誘導体も挙げられる。

本発明のボールペン用油性インキに用いる着色剤(色材)としては、限定されないが、顔料あるいは顔料と染料併用の形で使用することが好ましい。顔料を用いることで堅牢性に優れることができる。顔料としてはカーボンブラックやフタロシアニン系やモノアゾ、ジスアゾ、縮合アゾ、キレートアゾ等の不溶性アゾ系と難溶性アゾ、可溶性アゾ等の溶性アゾを含むアゾ系やキナクリドン系やジケトピロロピロール系やスレン系やジオキサジン系およびイソインドリノン系等の有機顔料を使用することができる。

特にカーボンブラックに関しては、なるべく比表面積の小さなものを使用すべきであり、BET法にて測定した値で100m2/g以下のものが好ましい。具体的には、三菱化成製カーボンブラックとして#33、#32、#30、#25、CF9等があり、キャボット社製カーボンブラックとしてREGAL(400R,500R,330R,300R),ELFTEX(8,12),STERLING R等があり、デグサ社製としてPrintex(45,40,300,30,3,35,25,200,A,G),SB(250,200)等があり、コロンビアン社製としてRAVEN(1040,1035,1020,1000,890,890H,850,500,450,420,410,H20,22,16,14)等がある。

また、顔料としては、用いる有機溶剤に溶解し難く分散後の平均粒径が30nm〜700nmとなるものが好ましい。顔料の配合量は、インキ組成物全量に対し、0.5〜25重量%、好ましくは0.5〜20重量%までの範囲で必要に応じて配合することができる。

使用できる顔料は、単独又は2種以上の混合で使用することができる。また、必要に応じて無機顔料を用いた分散体や染料等も分散安定性に悪影響を与えない程度で添加することができる。染料を用いると発色性に優れる効果がある。更に、スチレン、アクリル酸、アクリル酸エステル、メタアクリル酸、メタアクリル酸エステル、アクリルニトリル、オレフィン系モノマーを重合して得られる樹脂エマルションや、インキ中では膨潤して不定形となる中空樹脂エマルション、または、これらのエマルション自身を着色剤で染着して得られる染着樹脂粒子からなる有機多色顔料等が挙げられる。

本発明に使用する色材が顔料である場合は、顔料分散インキ組成物を製造するには、従来から公知の種々の方法が採用できる。例えば、上記各成分を配合し、ディゾルバー等の攪拌機により混合攪拌することによって、また、ボールミルやロールミル、ビーズミル、サンドミル、ピンミル等によって混合粉砕した後、遠心分離や濾過によって顔料の粗大粒子、及び未溶解物、混入固形物を取り除くことによって容易に得ることができる。

これらの顔料に対して併用する染料としては分散系を破壊しないものであれば特に制限なく使用することができる。それらの染料としては、通常の染料インキ組成物に用いられる直接染料、酸性染料、塩基性染料、媒染・酸性媒染染料、酒精溶性染料、アゾイック染料、硫化・硫化建染染料、建染染料、分散染料、油溶染料、食用染料、金属錯塩染料等や通常の顔料インキ組成物に用いられる無機および有機顔料の中から任意のものを使用することができる。その配合量は、組成物全量当たり1〜50重量%の範囲で選ばれる。

本発明のボールペン用油性インキ組成物には樹脂を使用する。ボールペン用油性インキ組成物に用いる樹脂は、粘度調整やペン先での摩耗改良などを目的として添加されるが、顔料を含む場合にはその分散剤としても使用される。このような樹脂としては、ケトン樹脂、スチレン樹脂、スチレン−アクリル樹脂、テルペンフェノール樹脂、ロジン変性マレイン酸樹脂、ロジンフェノール樹脂、アルキルフェノール樹脂、フェノール系樹脂、スチレンマレイン酸樹脂、ロジン系樹脂、アクリル系樹脂、尿素アルデヒド系樹脂、マレイン酸系樹脂、シクロヘキサノン系樹脂、ポリビニルブチラール、ポリビニルピロリドン等に代表される樹脂がある。

これらの樹脂の配合量としては、1〜30重量%がよく、より好ましくは1〜20重量%である。その配合量が1%重量未満であると粘度調整やペン先での摩耗が困難となり、30重量%超だと樹脂以外の原材料が配合できなくなったり、書き味に悪影響を及ぼすことがある。

本発明の好ましい実施態様としてインキ組成物の色材に顔料を使用する場合、用いる分散剤としては上記に挙げたような樹脂の中から顔料を分散できるものを選択して使用することができ、活性剤やオリゴマーでも目的にあえばどの様なものでも種類を問わない。具体的な分散剤としては、ポリビニルアルコール、ポリビニルピロリドン、ポリビニルブチラール、ポリビニルエーテル、スチレン−マレイン酸共重合体、ケトン樹脂、ヒドロキシエチルセルロースやその誘導体、スチレン−アクリル酸共重合体等の合成樹脂やPO・EO付加物やポリエステルのアミン系オリゴマー等が挙げることができる。

本発明の油性ボールペン用インキ組成物にはリン酸エステル中和物を含む。リン酸エステル中和物はボール表面のインキ凝着物を取り除き易くする効果を奏し、それによって書き出し時の筆記カスレを抑制する効果を与え、かつ本発明ではポリプロピレングリコールと協働して短時間あるいは長時間の書き出し時の筆記カスレを抑制し、さらに低速で筆記した時のインキ転写性を潤滑にする効果を与えるものである。

使用されるリン酸エステルは、通常、リン酸モノエステル、ジエステル及び微量のトリエステルからなるものであり、エステル構造も芳香族や脂肪族の2系統がある界面活性剤が主である。リン酸エステル構造を形成し得るアルキル基に関しては、天然及び合成の高級アルコール等から得られるアルキル基を導入している。炭素数10〜20のアルキル基と0〜50のポリオキシエチレン鎖を有するリン酸エステルが使用される。特に炭素数15〜20のアルキル基と0〜4個のポリオキシエチレン鎖を有する様なリン酸エステルが好適である。また、中和するためのアミン系物質としてはアルカノールアミン、ポリオキシエチレンアルキルアミン、両性界面活性剤、脂肪アミン系物質などのアミン系化合物で中和することが望ましい。

これらの添加量に関しては、中和による混合物で、インキ組成物全量に対し、0.01重量%〜15重量%を配合することが好ましいが、より好適には0.1〜10重量%である。また、特に好適には0.1〜8重量%である。これらは0.01重量%未満だとボール表面のインキ凝着物を取り除き易くする効果が劣り、また15重量%を超えて配合すると描線品位としてボールからはじかれ過ぎて描線割れが生じやすくなる等の不具合を起こし易くなってしまう場合がある。

本発明の油性ボールペン用インキ組成物にはポリプロピレングリコールを必ず使用する。油性ボールペン用の乾固し易いインキでは金属ボールなどのボール上でインキの皮膜を形成し、顔料を含む場合にはこの問題は特に顕著であるが、ポリプロピレングリコールを添加すると、ボール上でインキの皮膜が形成できにくくなるため、書き出し時のカスレを生じ難くする効果がある。この現象は金属ボールに対してインキのハジキにより得られるカスレ抑制に更にインキ被膜を形成し難くすることにより、1〜20分の短時間でのカスレも抑制することも可能とする。

ポリプロピレングリコールの分子量は、できるだけ大きい方が添加量を少なくできて描線乾燥性が高くできるので好ましい。分子量(計算分子量)1000以上が好ましく、2000以上がより好ましく、4000以上がさらに好ましい。
