La perdita dei capelli è uno dei Lroblemi' estetici che crea maggiormente imbarazzo sociale sia nell'uomo, che nella donna. E' oltretutto doveroso specificare che le terapie consistono nell'assunzione di farmaci, che portano ad effetti collaterali. L'ulteriore limite delle terapie mediche è rappresentato dal celere svanimento del loro effetto, una volta sospeso il trattamento. Un altro tipo di trattamento è quello chirurgico, nella fattispecie quello dell 'autotrapianto di capelli, che consiste nel trasferimento dei propri capelli da una parte all'altra del capo. Oltre al limite dovuto alla quantità di capelli disponibili, la tecnica dell'autotrapianto è pur sempre un trattamento chirurgico a tutti gli effetti, il quale comporta una serie di esami, un'anestesia locale, dei tagli e una conseguente convalescenza. In ogni caso la soluzione oggetto di questo brevetto ben si presterebbe alla associazione con il trattamento chirurgico, ove quest'ultimo non riesca a fornire al paziente il risultato sperato. Esiste una tecnica di impianto di capelli artificiali già dagli inizi degli anni '80. Un capello artificiale può essere un vero capello naturale, oppure un capello realizzato artificialmente con un materiale molto simile a quelli utilizzati per le suture, con alla base un piccolo nodino. Viene collocato tramite un ago con la punta "a bocca di squalo" (implanter) nel cuoio capelluto, il quale riconoscerà il nodino come un corpo estraneo, formando intorno un granuloma, e fissando quindi il capello. Tale fenomeno è positivo in quanto viene sfruttato per il fissaggio del capello, ma si presenta inevitabilmente un problema: i margini della cute ed il capello presentano una soluzione di continuità, ovvero tutto intorno al capello è presente una fessura che nel cuoio capelluto, ambiente spesso iperseborroico, caldo e umido, permette un'abbondante proliferazione di batteri. Questi batteri, attraverso la fessura tra lo stelo del capello e la cute, raggiungono il nodino determinando una infiammazione o infezione del granuloma, che porta alla conseguente caduta del capello applicato. Il ripetersi di questi fenomeni, ne crea uno ulteriore denominato pseudoinvaginazione follicolare, tramite il quale l'ostio del capello si infossa, formando un piccolo cratere, nel quale si accumula tutto il materiale sebaceo. L'infezione perpetuata nel tempo porta poi all'espulsione del capello. La tecnica non ha superato il vaglio della sperimentazione e dell'utilizzo clinico a causa delle infezioni recidivanti e della continua caduta dei capelli applicati. The infection perpetuated over time then leads to the expulsion of the hair. The technique did not pass the scrutiny of experimentation and clinical use due to recurring infections and continuous loss of applied hair.

Si ritiene importante una diversa applicazione della metodica di impianto del capello artificiale. Si è capito che il limite è dovuto alla fessura presente tra 1'ostro follicolare e il capello, la quale andrebbe colmata; la soluzione qui proposta al problema è la creazione di una guaina di materiale idrofilo aderente al capello (sia artificiale che naturale), in grado di espandersi e perciò di chiudere la fessura, sigillando l'ostio follicolare. Siccome l'aspetto più importante è la prevenzione delle infezioni, questa sostanza dovrà anche rilasciare sostanze antibiotiche e/o antinfiammatorie molto lentamente nel corso del tempo. Saranno possibili varianti dell'invenzione, a seconda del paziente, di spessore e dimensioni e di tipologia di sostanza idrofila e di dosaggio di sostanze antibiotiche e/o antinfiammatorie . Per l'applicazione dei capelli dotati della guaina non è necessario utilizzare attrezzature specifiche o comunque diverse da quelle già in uso per il trapianto di capelli artificiali. Un altro vantaggio dell'invenzione è la capacità di rendere stagno l'innesto del capello rispetto all'ambiente circostante e la capacità di rilasciare principi attivi farmacologici in grado di ovviare ai problemi di infezione precedenti, qualora se ne manifestassero. I capelli impiantati potrebbero comunque cadere nel tempo, ma garantendo comunque una durata maggiore e l'assenza di infezioni, sarà possibile effettuare ulteriori applicazioni. Questo permetterebbe inoltre di applicare tale tecnica congiuntamente a quella dell 'autotrapianto di capelli, laddove l'area donatrice fosse troppo ridotta, ottenendo risultati di gran lunga più efficaci per il paziente. La guaina per fissaggio di capelli artificiali o naturali va realizzata in materiale idrofilo (ad esempio acido ialuronico).
